Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

ok not 100% sure if this is the right place or not did a search and had a look through stickys,

Anyway down to brass tax, im playing as man utd i decided to give a top team a go i normaly play with championship teams so i decided what the **** il go with man u , i grabbed C ronaldo and gave myself a bigger transfer budget at start ( yeh yeh i hear you Cheats blah blah , its my game so il play it how i want on my championship teams i never give myself anything extra for once i though Balls to it)

Im playing a flat 442 using http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=4288

No changes to it except i play rooney as a complete fwd Atack and berba as deep lying attack(read somewere it was good for these 2)

My problem is my wide players are wingers set to attack and i watch most of my games using the 3D engine i see them getting down the wing often and beating people only to have the cross go wildly over or knocked out by a def or my attackers blaze the ball over or make a soft header im winning games but im literly all over the oposition and getting a goal from a set piece or the odd open play goals .

Would switching to inside fwd or having my wingmen cut inside help me out ? also ive noticed rooney is extremly stubborn he wont change any PPM`s and keeps trying to bang goals in from 30+ yds, its extremly annoying :(

If any tactical genius can recomend a inside fwd tactic i can try or let me no if im doing anything totaly wrong :),

Thanks screenie below for team instructions etc

Hey all,

I know this isn't so much a small question, but tried and failed to start a new thread. Could any offer any help please? Four seasons, successful enough, behind me at Crewe. Got up to Championship and am fighting a winning battle against relegation/on the up. Have a couple of feeder clubs. They are marked as long-term and I can't cancel the link.

What I want to know is, as my clubs stature grows, will the board let me terminate the link and get a couple of better feeder clubs in? The feeders are terrible (one non-league and one Icelandic) and youth players won't even go on loan to them. Would also love a feeder for work permits as I love searching around south america for great talent.

With my two feeder clubs and one parent (preston n.e.) the board will let me ask for a feeder club, sometimes asking me if I would like to choose one, and then come back to me a couple of weeks later with a speal about "not at this time, be happy the way you are" kind of thing.

Any info would be great. Still loving the game. Not seen much of the wife recently... or anyone that I can't click on and see their stats and profile.....

Lazlow,

I'm no great manager but i'll give it a shot. I assume you have Henrique getting into the box as well as being the playmaker? If you have, and you still seem to be dominating games without much final product, why not have your Fletcher join the attack from deep- given you have so much possession.

If Rooney is not listening to you, not playing the way you want him to play- why not give another striker a shot? Also, I know it looks to you like you should be winning every game comfortably but it doesn't work like that. In Real football or FM, United don't win every game 3,4,5 - 0. Maybe try a different formation- one that brings more attacking players into the box when you have posession in the final third.

Anyway, probably not much use to you, but I thought i'd give it a go seen as i'm waiting for someone to make a suggestion to my problem...

Good luck (even if you are playing with United)

randompillars thanks for the reply i dont mind not winning by huge margins everygame what makes it realy frustrating is when i batter the oposition all game then one time shot from them outside the box and a guy on their team scores a screamer from 25yds i check the guy who scores and he has 2 for long shots or something .

My big problem realy is the fact berba and rooney blast the ball over almost every chance they get and 9/10 crosses get drilled to the oposition FB, maybe i might bring in some areil power and float the crosses instead.

Making tons of chances but i cant seem to put teams away

Ps- i usualy play with boro or villa so man u is my first power house team :)

i want to ask ...
how to make my team play just like france did in WC '98?

what role for every position ?

Playing this formation with a fairly strong Man Utd side. I am struggling to convert my shots on goal, even though I Macheda, Pastore, Rooney, Cavani etc all have 15+ determination, finishing and composure. I have told them all to restrict long shots yet I still dominate team with 30+ shots, yet struggle to score 1.

The below match was the final straw, lol:

wtf...25?....even when you set manually players long shot to rarely? i think it's came from their PPM (Shot from distance),..must lampard for half of it? mmm have you try to reduce your players creativity?....

I'm in the middle of creating a new tactic to, I'll post screenshots in an hour or so.

Hi there everybody,

I have a problem. My defenders are passing more then my midfielders and forwards. Usually my defenders make like 30-50 passes each game. While my Midfielders and forwards only make 10-30 passes each game. How do I change this?

What role do you have your defenders on? and are you playing a direct style.

I have 2 wingbacks and 2 central defenders and I'm not playing a direct style. Short passes all the way!

Morning chaps,

Looking for pointers rather than tactics to DL. I'm tweaking/tightening my formation, which is a 4-2-4 (essentially 4-4-2 with AMR/L).

- Looking to get Pastore scoring more at Liverpool. Currently deployed in the MCR role as an Advanced Playmaker with an Attacking mentality. He is amazing, honestly. I watch the game in Classic-2D format, and it amazes me how he finds players with passes, even more satisfying is his ability to retain possession, in a composed manner, in the most congested of midfields. I just can't get him to score, and I'm sure he has it in his locker to turn in more goals.

- Playing Stevie Gerrard. We all know what Stevie's capable of, however since the acquisition of Pastore, Gerrard has moved out to AMR, Inside Forward, Attack. Does he perform? No, well yes he does, but essentially no - not the way in which we know he can (... with those stats). I appreciate out wide the play is not going through him - but I'm not sure where else to stick him? He might not be best suited to AMR, but he certainly isn't going to be a MCL, Ball-Winning Mid/Support, as he's better than that from an attacking POV and Meireles is doing a great job there too, which is great as he is not as offensively good as Stevie.

Welcome advice, and suggestions. If this is posted in the wrong place - apologies in advance.

Play Pastore as you normally would, either as an Advanced Playmaker on Attack, or as a Trequartista. He will score, just give him time.

Narrow your formation to three central attacking midfielders, rather than two wingers and a central attacking midfielder, have Gerrard play as an Advanced Playmaker on Support. Gerrard is obviously not an Inside Forward, so it's best you either couple him with Pastore, or play him in central midfield.

Is there a way of seeing what tactics i have used in previous matches (eg if i am about to play chelsea, can i look at what tactics i used when i played chelsea earlier in the season)

Click on their name, and then, in a bar, it should say Tactics, alongside Squad and Fixtures.

Click on that.

This is probably so stupid but it's annoying me so I'll ask,I'm in 2017 and I've just hired Maximillan Nicu as a coach as his attacking skill is 20,I just want him to do attacking but when I go on the training it shows Strength,Aerobic,Shot Stopping,Handling,Tactics,Ball Control and Defending on his assignments, but not Attacking or Shooting, therefore as there's no scroll bar I can't simply just click on Attacking and designate him to that role from what I can tell,so is there anyway any other way this can be done instead?.

This just shows what tactics they are using?

Oh, apologies, I read it wrong. The only way you can is to go on your Fixtures list and to then click on previous matches, then go to Information, then Formations.

In that bar, you can then see analysis of the game, statistics and the ratings of your players.

Have you gone to Training, then Coaches, then his name and unselected all but Attacking?

Yes,I'll put a print screen in and explain what I mean as it will make it clearer.

I want to see the attacking and shooting tick boxes under his assignments on the right hand side, but I can't see it and there's no scroll bar so I'm not sure how I am suppose to unselect shooting?

Try unselecting All, and then see if you can select Attacking, or change skins, so that you can see the ticks.

Is their any tactical way I can reduce the number of long shots at my goal?

Half of all the long range shots at my goal go into the top left or right corners and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm playing at Nottm forest and my defence does half decent getting inbetween the goal and the ball but all these long range goals keep coming and costing me to lose.
