Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

Is their any tactical way I can reduce the number of long shots at my goal?

Half of all the long range shots at my goal go into the top left or right corners and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm playing at Nottm forest and my defence does half decent getting inbetween the goal and the ball but all these long range goals keep coming and costing me to lose.

Play a higher defensive line and press more, play one of your fullbacks as a supporting fullback.

Have one of your central defenders press higher than the defensive line itself to prevent attacks, or have a defensive midfielder to destroy the attacks. Even so, have a central midfielder man-marking one of the opposing players to restrict their long shots.

Have shouts such as "Push higher up" "Hassle opponents" "Stay on your feet"

I have actually a few quick questions that I need help with.

Scenario: AC Milan no major new players, usually 4-3-3 (similar to 4-4-2 with Robinho on the AML) or 4-5-1.

1) High defensive line works better in what situations? In my case Push up settings rarely work, even when I'm the clear favorite. On the other hand Deep defensive line keeps me from conceding. What's the trick with using push up? Do I need a couple of DMF for it to work? To I need better DF?

2) Should fullbacks attack, support or defend? I've tried tactics that vary on this too much. In a first impression when I play Control/Attacking instructions I should set my FB to Attack, otherwise Support (unless I'm keeping a good result). But I sense that when I have my FBs on Attack duties I do concede too much. I usually keep both on support and on specific games I put one ATT (eg: Antonini) and the other DEF (Sokatris). * I know I need better FBs but I only got Roberto Carlos and a few youngsters so far.

3) Why do most "high scoring" tactics have passing set to 100% short? In many games having a more direct style has helped me, so I wonder why so many tactics not only set team settings to short but tweak every player to short passing..

4) Does crossing really work in FM11? I have a sense that is quite similar to Long shots - Leave it at rarely 100% of the time. In fact all those tactics with Inside Forwards cutting inside is a good indicator that crossing is no good...

5) Is there a major difference between Zonal and Man Marking? I have seen many tactics that but both DF to man marking together with a couple of MFs, but also many other tactics that do the opposite (DFs and DMFs as zonal, and FBs as man marking...).

Thanks,
Big Goat

anyone who can help me, witch position should i train cavani?

Could you please explain how do you adjust passing for every player in details(this question is especially adressed to TheBetterHalf)? How do you think which player could be very direct with passing and why? Who should pass very short and why? I am looking at some of TheBetterHalf's tactics and there is often a complete fwd who is very direct with passing - he is supposed to deliver the final pass/flick-on to the poacher yes? The other players pass short and when the complete fwd gets the ball he quickly makes the game more direct to the poacher? Is this the idea? Also what attributes should that kind of "make the final direct pass" player have - high first touch, high decisions, high passing, high creativity and high anticipation?
I also got another small question - if I set manually the attempt through balls bar to maximum and shout "Pass to feet" is there any way to make the shout affect the manually adjusted bar(because it seems it doesn't affect the bar)?
Thanks in advance!

when I give indvidual instructions inside a tactic.. do those instructions stay with the player in that role at the time or do the instructions apply only to the position??

Say I have an older player who I tell to pass and through ball and run less, then sub him with another player whos passing is worse but a better runner does my insructions stay with the older player when he comes back to that position again?

What training part do I need to focus on to improve my winger's lack of concentration skill?

He only has 4...

Is it still defense training?

I was going to make a thread based on people describing what "footballing philosophy" they're looking to play, and members describe how to go about it.... Buuuut then I figured here is probably the right place.

Random example, I'm Tranmere, I want to play 4-3-3, keeping possession, getting the ball up as quickly as possible for my font line, preferrably with through balls for a poacher. What should I do with my sliders, player roles etc to work towards this philosophy?

how to learn ppm "gets into opposition area" ???
only by tutoring from player??

Does anyone know which mental attributes can be affected negatively through tutoring? i.e. my tutor has worse creativity and decisions than my pupil, but better in everything else. Will I have to sacrifice his creativity and decisions to increase all of the others?

I've only noticed Determination going down to be honest. Not 100% sure though. Best off trying to find someone with all round good mental attributes.

Get your wingers to cross to the Target Man and Far Post. Both byline.

He is good, and is good as Ball-Playing Defender on either Defend or Cover.

You cannot get a player to learn the PPM 'Gets Into Opposition Area' from the tutor unless they have it themselves. You must ask them yourself.

Hi everyone,

I just have a few queeries on training schedules?

I currently just use position specific training (GK, FB, CB, DM, CM, AM, WG AND ST) in three categories; "extreme" for the first two weeks of pre-season, "fitness" during the last few weeks of pre-season and "normal" during the season, i.e. my full backs will either be on "FB fitness", "FB extreme" or "FB normal" etc. Is this the right way to go about training?

I also have a few under 18's who will be good or leading in the premiership and so is it really worth giving them their own player specific training? And if so, does this mean if i have a centre back who is great in the air and at tackling but very slow, i should have low levels of defensive training and high levels of aerobic, or do i still need him to do a lot of defensive training?

Many thanks!
