Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

here's a question that actually fits in quite nicely to ongoing discussions about Player Roles...

Does anyone know if the Player Roles are solely defined by the Player Instruction ''templates''

What I mean is, are there 'hard-coded' settings for certain player roles or will, for example, a Deep Lying Playmaker with identical PI to an default Anchor Man just perform as an Anchor Man?
he will perform as an anchor man

I'm playing tottenham 1st season not much spended to transfer so quite regular starting squad. It doesn't actually matter in my question that much but anyway ... What kind of three tactics I would use thru season .. at the moment I'm using Control tactic Counter tactic and heavy preassure tactic... but I'd like something else ... control tactic is fine and maybe that counter tactic. What kind of tactic would that third be ( maybe those 2 )

On my training the Ball Control schedule thing has quite a low star. What attribute on the coaches improve this and what do Mental and Technique attributes do?

Technical, man management and something in att and def ... And I'm not sure if I got your question quite right but technical attributes tell you how skillfull your player would be potentially and mental attributes compared to those technical tell you how skillfull he is in the real world. Example if you got Technicue 20 he would be skillfull as messi but if he has creativity 5 with that he's technique would be wasted because he wouldn't use it to anything magic and he would be just avg. player.

1: Do coaches attributes increase over time?

2: If you have a player who has an accomplished position, lets say AMC, and you have him in position training for AMC will he become natural at AMC, instead of accomplished, over time?

How can I make my CBs to play only short simple passes? It is getting very frustrating. I try to build up from the back and my CBs have so far this season pass completion % 63% and 65%!! They lack passing skill, but that has nothing to do with just smashing the ball upfield, rather than playing short pass to midfield or wingbacks.

Both have passing short, creative freedom zero and mentality ultra defensive, everything else is rarely. Both have also PPM plays simple passes.

Oh and other thing, has anyone else noticed that AI gets used to your tactic very fast? I just saw my 10 games without losing (8wins, some against top teams in my league) changing to almost 10 games without winning. And I changed to this tactic before that 10 game without losing streak.

try to slow down your tempo, and not ultra defensive mentality

Ultra defensive mentality, slow tempo and low mixed (almost defensive) mentality on CMs seems to help, more passing options. I had low mentalities on all players, managed to get 88% passes succesful, my playmaker got over 60 passes, only 1 was unsuccesful. Keeping the ball is easy, doing something with it is hard.

Some of my players aren't happy at the training workload. But is this good as overtime they will become much fitter?

well some players just complain but using a hard traing might get your players injuried much more often.

If they are unhappy with their training workload, they have low morale, which effects negatively to their performance and training, so definitely give them a lighter routine.

So, how often should I be changing my tactics. Every time I score I have read, when I take the lead i have read, and never I have read? Also, how drastic of a change need to be? Can i quickly go from "attacking" to 'standard" and consider that a "change of tactic", or does it need to be more in depth, ala; changing some player roles as well as several of the sliders?

I have two fully gelled and ready to go, "attack" and "hold". The differences include changing the AMR/L to support duties, as well at my CM whos is an avd playmaker. It also drops the line back deeper and changes from "attacking" to "standard". Is that good enough? I usually do it when I take the lead.

Changing the height of the defensive line, the tempo and the width of play is enough to make your tactic sustain in matches. Changing from "Attacking" to "Counter" is enough, and altering the sliders for players is fine. All of them in one go is fine. It's not drastic.

Might be a simple one.

How do you improve mental attributes?

Intensive Tactics training, equipped with moderately high Defending/Attacking training. Be careful, as this can result in a severe drop in other attributes.

Please will someone answer my question? :D

  1. Yes, they do. Just like players.
  2. Could be. I have never really experimented this myself, but I am guessing that it should become 'Natural' over time. Depends on their hidden attribute, 'Versatility' I think. Can't see why not.
