Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

I'm playing with liverpool and casual 4-4-2 tactic .... Carrol is averaging 7.2 but hes scoring only like 1 goal in 5 games .. he's though getting qiute a lot of assist ... would it work in anycase to play poacher and target - attack .. now I'm playin poacher - target support ... ? Would not like to try it in mid season if it don't work cause I'm in close competition of title atm.

you need good supply into the box for him. Who have you got out wide? and do you play wide much?

WING BACKS...speak to me

WING BACKS!
An attack-minded defensive position with lots of running

How do I use them in the game?

I can't find anyone that has created an tactic with attacking WB's

I want to play a 5-3-2 like this..

------------F-----------F-------------

-----------------AM-------------------

-------------CM------CM-------------

----WB-----------------------------WB---

--------DR-------CD---------DL--------

This is what I have been using
Philosophy ..Balanced,
Passing style ..Direct
creative freedom ..Default
Crossing ...Default

I have gone threw a few tactics with attacking wing-backs but can't seem to get it right on any of the FM games every other tactic seems to be ok but when I use WB never seem to get much success. Any ideas on what sort of tactic is best for attacking WB's?

The Target Man role with Support duty should work, but the Advanced Forward role that can compliment the supporting striker, who should be a smaller, quicker forward with a Deep-Lying Forward or Poacher. It is very difficult at times to get Carroll to score, so experimenting is what will get you to find out. Maybe playing him as a Complete Forward with Support duty but I don't know as it is a long shot that it will get a consistent amount of goals for him.

Carrol finally started to do something no he has 7goals 10 assts in 25 games ... then my poachers ..many of them cause huge injury trouble atm have 24goals in 29 games all together so I think these are reasonable stats ... gerrard also lead league scoring before goin to 5months injury -.- ...

Make them equally attacking as AM
give a lot of creative freedom ... running with ball and run from deep often ... roam from position-yes .. cross from-byline (in more defensive tactics mixed) crossing-far post(if use target then to target) wideplay-hug tline might wanna make your tactic as fluid also so it encourages them evenmore to get forward

Fluid tactic increases mentality of defensive player and decreases mentality of attacking players. It also adds creative freedom, so fluidity doesn't really matter if you manually set mentality high enough.

Attacking mentality, run from deep often and run with ball often, also wide play move into channels.

i want him to score as much as Kaka did

Well, take the advice given and find out for yourself. The more you experiment, the more you'll learn and the closer he will get to scoring "as much as Kaka did"

Play him as Treq. He has to have good finishing though, you can't turn Almunia into Cech with good tactics y'know. Also, don't double post.

Yeah, some of these questions are ridiculous and vague. Find out for yourself or read articles already posted!

There is already a playmaker in my team, play him as treq seems like useless, i had tried

When I use my tactic on holiday mode I never loss, I beat Barcelona 2-1 on first try, then Liverpool 3-0 and Man. City 4-1, but when I use it on 3D mode, I get big loss, how to make my tactics works like on holiday mode when I'm on 3D mode? Make assistant control the team or what?

There isn't any difference in results if you use holiday or 3D mode, unless you make changes during the games, which is something you should do to help your team. It might be that when you go to holiday mode, you have "use current match tactics" unticked (you can see that option when choosing the lenght etc of your holiday) so that your *** man makes his own tactics which he thinks suits the team best, and which is better than your tactics... Or then those matches you holidayed (is that even a word?) were in pre-season when opponents doesn't play too well.

I am not trying to sound mean or anything but I suggest that you try harder. Customised Player Instructions often help, such as making the creative freedom and mentality opposite to one-another. You can also try the simple Attacking Midfielder on Support role, and then customise it into an Advanced Playmaker.

Just try harder. Experiment.

No, it's not pre-season, and I ticked the both thing on the holiday screen (forgot what it is), but yes, some sub

Im having problems getting consistent results in my 1st seasons Ajax game. Im playing a 4231 version with an AMR as Inside forward and a fullback. I am not getting my striker (poacher) to perform very well, I rely too much on the corner headers to win matches. Is this because of the lowish quality of the squad?

I use the following settings:

LB=Fullback Sup
CBL=Limited Def
CBR=Ball playing Def
RB=Fullback Auto
CMR=Ballwinning Def
CML=Adv playm. Sup (playmaker)
AML=Winger Att
AMC=Att Midf Att
AMR= Inside Foward Sup
ST=Poacher (targetman feet/run to ball)

The results in a 2nd season game with new players (Sanogo, Kevin as CML, Buananotte as AMR) are similar. Setting the AMC to pass to the Targetman doesnt help, he still scores too little.'

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I have a difficulty finding the middle ground against bigger teams. Usually gets accompanied by some sort of inconsistency.

My team is Napoli, using a 1-2-3-2-2 (3-3-2-2) formation. The style I opt for is a tactic for counter, and a tactic for control. However, against a bigger team, and away from home, neither of those styles work. I went 'Counter' for games where I am the underdog, and at home. I went control because I felt I could find an advantage with the number of players through my half of the field.

I have tried an 'attacking' style, but that has always given the same result, my defense opening up, and my midfield struggling to find the killer pass, allowing them to get possession and move forward.

Controlling a game, away from home, against any side, isn't exactly a good plan either. So to look for a new tactic in the middle of the season, could diminish any hope I had of getting to the Champions League the next year.

Are there any long term, minor tweaks that could help? If not, any tweaks?

I have a question: what does "DiCTATES TEMPO" acually mean?

I have Ganso (Paulo Henrique) and he has dictates tempo as preferred move.
He doesn't play very well and i'm wondering if this preferred move along with his low overall speed stats is responsable for this.

Is there any relation between speed and dictates tempo?

It basically means that whenever he is on the ball or in possession of it, he is the conductor and orchestrates the midfield with his passing and movement. Attributes deter how well they can dictate the tempo, such as Decisions and Composure.

If you are playing with a quick and attacking team, having someone that dictates the tempo of play is probably counter-productive. It's better off with teams that control possession and play a moderate or slow tempo, often time waste.

How do you get your defenders to actually tackle often? I have them to press more, but they just run up to them then do nothing. I'm not keen to put tackling to 'more aggressive' because I don't want my players diving in with 2 feet all the time.

Does the 'press more' actually prevent tackling?

Thanks.

i have a friend who's a fan of Valencia
anyway, everytime he starts a save with, he ends up in the bottom of the table. He plays a 4-2-2-2/4-2-4 and uses Banega and Alberto Costa as CMs. I told him that he doesn't have a proper ball winning midfielder and he can't win the ball in the midfield, but he says that Banega and Costa share the task of winning the ball.
Is this possible or is it necessary to play with a "destroyer"?
