Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

Okay, this may sound daft and I hope I've put it in the right category, , but time and your responses will of course tell. Is there any way, or any specific part of training, that will lower a player's injury proneness rating, or am I doomed to have to phase out some of my stars who are otherwise still in their prime?

Lower workload means less injuries, so just decrease training workload and you decrease chances for players injured in training. The question is how much development of your players you can sacrifice for less injuries.

Okay, some defensive problems. I try to press aggressively, but it seems to fail badly. I have 2 big problems.

1) This is how my pressing is often destroyed. Opposition goalkeeper/CB plays ball to fullback. My winger starts approaching him like instructed. But he has just enough time to turn and play pass forward to winger. My wingback sits in the line, and starts pressing the winger AFTER the winger recieves the ball. That way winger has plenty of time and space to turn, and play the ball to midfielder, to striker who has exploited the space behind my wingback or starts dribbling 50 meters near touchline towards the byline without my wingback doing challenge or stopping his dribblingh and forcing him to pass somewhere else.

2) Deep lying forwards. Simple, they drop deep between my defenders and midfielder, neither of them defending them. Pass to him, quick turn and through pass to his partner or winger, as my wingbacks often react more slowly than wingers.

So even small hint even just to other problem would be fine.

Oh and currently using man marking, as zonal marking allows too much space for opponent in the middle sometimes. If changing that is one part of the solution, I am willing to do it though.

Problem with sunderland

I am playing with sunderland. I use 451 formation.

Campbell- poacher attack
cleverley- inside forward, attack
nzogbia- winder, attack
wilshere- adv playmaker, attack
rodwell- centre mid, defend
collison- ball winning mid, support
bertrand- fullback, automatic
jones- limited defender, stopper
shawcross- limited defender, cover
walker- fullback, auto
gordon- keeper, defend..

My team was getting results until the first half of the season. They stood 5th until december. 2nd half has been a disaster so far lying 14th in table. Campbel gets chances but misses a lot. Wilshere often gets skinned. He hasnt scored a goal till now. My defence was rock solid but now concede atleast 2 every game. Has the AI learned my tactics so soon or is the problem is with my tactics.? Morale is good mostly. I play direct game with target man supply run to ball, wilshere as playmaker and a control or standard strategy. I am aiming for europa cup next season and i still have chelsea, united, city to play against. My coaches often tell me that my team has speed advantage, dribbling advantage but strength, height, aggresion disadvantage. So can anyone say some typical team instructions to go with or player instructions maybe.?

I have a problem in my arsenal save, i'm in second season, and i singned mata, rodwell, romero, and delfouneso on loan. in the first season i came up 4 in the premier league but i won champions league curling cup and F.A. cup. and the end of the last season my team played like i wanted(i use 4-5-1 like barcelona and i almost made my team play like that, a lot of passes, having the ball, etc...) but this season i have a problem, i only lost against juvents in C.L. but my team plays well the fist time on the match and they don't play a lot the way a want, but when i score a gol the other team starts to have the ball and to make me the match really dificult, and they usually score me 1 gol but i win. i wanna know if this problem is about the tactics before the match, something that i'm doing wrong, or if it has to be with the begining of the match tactic, i really don't know and i need help!

that is normal. When you score and take the lead opponent starts to play more offensively. Try slow tempo and higher time wasting after you score. If it doesn't help try quicker tempo. First makes you to take it easy and make more backpasses to have more possession, the second one makes you to pass quicker so that it is harder for opponent to get the ball if they start pressing higher. Primarily use first option, but under high pressing use the second one.

yeah i know that when i score the other team starts to play more offensively but i wanted to know how to make my team have more possesion and stop them in that situation. i will try what you told me and i will tell you how it works, thank you!

how to best play 3 men up front? (strc, stc, stlc)

I have Totti, Vucinic, Rossi and Adriano.

currently playing, advanced forward, trequartista, complete forward(support) but I don't create a lot of goals.. I do have around 60% possesion every match.

Ball possesion

How to get more ball possesion? I mostly have 45-55%. Most of my players have pass completion rate at 75-80% - only defenders get less (65-70%). What can I do to boost my team's ball possesion?

I'm playing Malaga 4-1-2-2-1, my own Barca-style tactic. My team's position is quite good - after 17 games I'm 2nd in BBVA :) But still if I could hold up the ball better, I could get more chances/lose less goals.

Please help me! :)

I know i'm dum but where actually are touchline shouts?

im zenit and im playing a 4-5-1 trying to concentrate on keeping possession and i aint sure on who to play up front and how. My middle 3 are mostly a destroyer, a passer and a creator. Whilst my wide players cut inside sometimes and get crosses in just as often. so far im having abit of trouble sorting out my striker though. Kerzhakov is clearly the better attribute wise but he is really only a poacher right? and doesn't fit into that style to well? so what should i do?

When you enter the match, under your team's name, it will say 'Touchline Shouts' or something like that. Click on it.

Probably best to edit his PI's and then make him a Deep-Lying Forward on Attack duty, so that he drops deep and is able to be fed from the midfield, thus making use of the central three and the inside-cutting wingers. Also would be good to get your wingers to make through balls a little more often so that they can get Kerzakhov through to score.

cheers mate. What should i change in his PI's? Sweet already have them set to often for through balls, trying to utilise Kerzakhov's pace! My first real tactic i have made, read afew of your articles in the chalkboard thread aswell as others. Where a good help! :)

Can someone help? thx in advance

is it possible to create a tactic with a target man type player in the AMC spot ? i have noticed in many games this season they often have a target man in the "hole" with a forward ahead of him and i just wonderd if you could do this in game, obv i do know there is no "targetman" role for the AMC

Try playing a high defensive line and a narrow width, also maybe if you lower the creative freedom.
I'm not sure, but you have a very attack minded squad, so maybe changing some to support roles?

When playing with high def line I'm losing more goals - opponents are very often playing the long ball behind my defence's back, especially while having fast strikers.

I'll give a try with witdth, but I doubt it will help..

Is the squad very attack minded? 4 players with attacking roles, 3 with def and 3 with support (not counting the GK), I think it's quite balanced, especially I've got one formal striker. I'll try to change the roles for playmaker to deep lying/support though, maybe it will help a bit.

I'm playing with liverpool and casual 4-4-2 tactic .... Carrol is averaging 7.2 but hes scoring only like 1 goal in 5 games .. he's though getting qiute a lot of assist ... would it work in anycase to play poacher and target - attack .. now I'm playin poacher - target support ... ? Would not like to try it in mid season if it don't work cause I'm in close competition of title atm.

The Target Man role with Support duty should work, but the Advanced Forward role that can compliment the supporting striker, who should be a smaller, quicker forward with a Deep-Lying Forward or Poacher. It is very difficult at times to get Carroll to score, so experimenting is what will get you to find out. Maybe playing him as a Complete Forward with Support duty but I don't know as it is a long shot that it will get a consistent amount of goals for him.
