The Better Half - Plug & Shout Tactics

Hey mate just had a go with this with Hull City

I had a good run of results and I find myself 10th in January and I have high hopes for the remainder of the season after a couple of signings,

Thanks for these great tactics mate

If you make it top half its a really good season. I was sitting 12th after 35 matches when the computer crashed

I hope too mate, but it looks tough.....Will be happy enough to finsh 10-12 position and hopefully the Board will back me with more money next season, that Buzaky deal is coming through slowly

Latest result using the 4411.

This is with a team that have won the Prem the last seasons and have a squad that is perfectly suited for the formation/tactic, both by roles and mental stats, having lots of players with character. The team is amongst the top 8 in pure quality (although not the best or even 2ND or 3RD best in the league, looking at names only)

Decided to switch to the first tactic I made in this thread, the deep 4231 and results have been very good

Tweaks/shouts used

Changed passing foucs to "middle" + Counter + retain, when wanting to play more cautious

Changed passing foucs to "middle" + Counter + play into space, When wanting to hit them on the break

Looking forward to some feedback. I have just started the 2ND season with Villa. Having won the first, I am now using the final version of the Assymetric

This means that if giving a defensive Central Defender with a "defensive" mentality setting a closing down setting set to bang in the middle, or even slightly higher, he will still not close down too high up in the pitch, getting dragged out of position, but instead just slightly higher up than his positioning in the field( mentality + d-line). The same goes if he has a extremely high mentality setting, like when using Overload, then a closing down setting of bang in the middle, or slightly higher, will still see him close down rather high but without getting dragged away and this is why the closing down settings of all players are tweaked in all tactics, to make they close down their opponents in a more balanced way, just in front of their defensive position.

Just wanting a little bit of clarification with this part of the "framework".

Does this mean that you have all players closing down set at or just above the middle, and then have adjusted the mentality of different players to have different players close higher or lower up the pitch, or have the closing down setting been adjusted too.

My point was that I don't like the premade closing down settings suggested by the wizard when using a philosophy will staggered mentality, like rigid and balanced. In my opinion, a staggered mentality should be combined with a "team" closing down". As I use Rigid in these tactics, using a staggered mentality, I have to tweak the closing down settings my self and I have chosen to put them around the middle.

Played this Tactic with Valenica and has been a great success although I made a few tweaks which I'd like to share:

I mainly alternated between the control and counter startegy depending on the game. For weaker oppsoition,I used control and for stronger opposition I used counter.I set my lone striker David Villa to Advanced Forward-Attack instead of Deepl-Lying Forward-Attack as that did not suit him.

Control Strategy:

I used these shouts-

1.Retain Possesion
2.Play Narrower

For Counter Strategy:

1.Pass into Space
2.Drop Deeper
3.Play Narrower

and sometimes Retain Possesion.I also set one of the Deep-Lying playmakers to Defensive Midfielder-Defend against simialar or stronger Teams as I felt I got caught out on the break too often

ok after the teaks I listed above,I have won a Treble with Valencia in their first Season, awesome tactic TBH

Great season there. Would be great if you could post a screenie of the final table :D

When you changed the role of the FC, did you make any changes to his settings ?I ask because the only thing that would change if only changing his role would be the hold up ball.

(Also, as the d-line is tweaked the shout drop deeper will not have any effect.)

Enjoying the narrow Diamond with some tweaks to suit my specific team. I have a good crosser at MCr that drifts wide and the Target Man is more mobile and quick

Here is a game where we are winning with ease. Boro are playing a defensive 4141, flooding the midfield so there is very little space for our target man to move into. Our players also have very little time on the ball just outside the area and crosses where headed over the bar as my attackers where standing still, surrounded by players. If keeping on playing without shouts here, we will have a difficult time breaking them down, scoring that 2-0 and 3-0 so after 55 minutes, I used the attacking shouts, adding overlaps, changing the focus passing to "mixed". This way, we managed to stretch their defence and we scored 2 quick goals early in the 2nd half. After that, I saw no need of scoring more so I reverted to the defensive shouts, keeping a clean sheet.

If I had not made these changes, we would probably had won anyway but why risk only being 1-0 up after 80 minutes, risking conceding from a corner in the 88th minutes etc.

I start all games with the default settings, i.,e Control although I know that when playing teams like Arsenal with their 41221, its better to play slower and on the counter
