***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Id also like to add the importance of team talks, moral and team cohesion. My first 2 seasons were awful... Id started with automatic experience and it really screwed me over. Hamsik was a nightmare to manage, the big players constantly reacted badly to my team talks etc. I'd bought cavani and hamsik the first season for 52m between them and they were honestly massive flops. everyone in my team loved cavani but he really struggled to settle and learn english. Hamsik just didnt care. I nearlly sold them.

Its taken me 3 more seasons of not buying to get my team to gel and play well. I'm finally on a few of my players favoured people. If I do buy a new player now, its either kids - or like Olssen - an established PL player who can speak english. Its not all about star ratings, hence why huddlestone, livermore, walker, naughton, adam smith, dawson are all still massive parts of my team. theyre all mates and play well together.
Livermore will never be a world beater but he's now worth 14m for a 2 1/2 star player.

Im sure TBH has said all of this in his thread but heres a few tips ive found to really kick *** with this tactic.

Pre season train tactics high, get it fluid asap. my 2 losses last season were within the first 5 games where i hadnt done this. once it was fluid i went on my 47 league games unbeaten

Once your tactics are fluid, divide match prep and normal training evenly, set match prep to defensive positioning and leave it there!

Set your normal training to team cohesion and leave it there! this is especially important if you have bought in some big egos, or reshaped your team top to bottom.

Rotate. I pretty much play two different teams, helping gain experience for youth and keeping rotation/backup players happy. one for league, one for cups and CL group stages. if your star player is on 90% and you have a fully fit backup or youngster dont be afraid to rest him, it will be alot worse when he's injured.

Dont be afraid to be angry in team talks, within reason. You should know your team and how they react in different scenarios. Also, I dont know what it is but occasionally in team talks a little green dot appears next to a players name... if you wiggle it, it makes a positive reaction with 4-5 more players

Determination, work rate, team work are my favourite attributes. TBH has said in this thread before, if you have a team with high numbers in those stats, you can dominate europe with a technically sub par team.

Listen to TBH when s/he talks about PPM's!

Enjoy people!

I think this is really good advice. I only have one suggestion. When you have a gelled squad, change the training to "Balanced" once the season starts.

Just want to give this tactic a big thumbs up. Playing with Oxford City and started in the BSN. Got my way up to League 2 and I've been using this tactic ever since. Got 3 promotions straight and now starting my first season in the Premier. Wonderful tactic which I assume will only get better once I get more quality players. Excellent job TheBetterHalf!

I'm currently mid-match as Everton against Villa using this (who are using a flat 4-5-1) and I have to say, 20 minutes in it's made a major difference. I lost to Southampton using a 4-5-1 and lost and it was a terrible performance. So I'm using this and the stats are Crosses 100% completed, possession 61% in my favour, passes completed 89% but the biggest surprise is passes in midfield 94%-very, very few misplaced. And 1 shot on target. The match against Southampton wasn't even half that by half time lol. I did make a few tweaks by having Baines bombing upfield/moving into channels, and having Mirallas cutting inside and also Pienaar. But overall there is a massive improvement comared to previous games-and I have 5 first team players out (including Gibson and Naismith) too. It just seems so fluid when I go attacking and balanced.

Will post a few updates so you can see the progress. If it goes well enough will have to include this on my Everton team guide-with credit of course as this surpases anything I've tried before

Safe to say been put through the mill there lol. Went 1-0 down, then Anichebe comes on....scores winner on 92nd minute. Jesus wept lol. Anyhoo here's how effective the formation and strategy was-safe to say it's looking good already:
Now it may not look like much at first glance, but the previous performances have been very erratic. Too many passes going to to-one resulting in goal kicks, players being in poor positions etc etc etc. The stats above are nearly double of what I had against Southampton. The passing was better, the tempo was better, the mistakes were greatly reduced. Though saying that, the Aston Villa goal did come off my RB who is still struggling to get used to how we play. He dilly-dallied on the ball and gifted it to them basically which resulted in their goal. Basically right now RB is the biggest weak link in the squad. But first time I use this, Pienaar gets a rating of 8.2 and a goal-and his season average is 6.9 and had never scored.

Another thing I lack in some areas is strength and this showed on the wings at times. I have pace, and the wide players were effective in cutting inside and creating chances but they lacked at times the willingness to get stuck in and were outmuscled. And it was a great result bearing in mind Villa were 5th and I was 14th. Now I just need Jelavic to start scoring as he's not scored once this season so far.

But I love this tactic already as it's giving me what I want-domination by possession and creating goalscoring chances. Great stuff

*and bear in mind i'm missing 5 first team players through injury

as far as I tried some tactics the best results and consistency I've got with old good:TBH´s FLAT 442 - CAUTIOUS in CAUSTON(H)
which has been made for FM 2012 and unfortunately can't be used in FMC:'(

First game with Southampton, won 4-0 against West Brom. Looking really good! Won all my pre-season friendlies including a game against Juventus :D

are people having better results with the classic tactic or the TC version?
I'm doing well with the classic but would like to switch to the TC without any hiccups

Apart from that there is a slight error in one of the TC versions, the DMC SHOULD be set to runs for deep =mixed, they are the same as the " Classic" so if fixing this, you should see no difference what so ever. The Engine can't tell the difference as its just cosmetics.

I've played 5 games with this with Southampton 1st season

1st match won 4-0 against West Brom, then 1-1 Sunderland, 0-2 defeat to Arsenal, 1-2 defeat to Liverpool.

How did you win the league with Soton first season?? Is it simply because the tactic isn't fluid yet?

And if so, how did you get your tactic fluid so fast to pick up amazing results right from the start?

A quicker way to get a tactic fluid is to start your pre season as early as possible(june), then arrange as many friendlys as you can with about 4-5 days gap in-between , it helps if the teams you play are inferior aswell.
I have my general trainig on 'team cohesion' = very high, and match training on 'tactics only' I leave the slider where it is.
this usually makes my tactic near 100% by the 1st game of the season.

so if i start using the TC version would it be advisable so use the exact 'role' for each position? , I mean do i have to use someone who plays as an inside fwd in the AMC role? and does my AML have to be an advanced playmaker?

Have read in the opening post. It states that you use the players that are decribed in the screen of the formation and under "players". Never mind the" roles" in the TC as all setings are tweaked. LIke the AMC, in the TC he is a Trequartista but here, we dont use one but instead an really attacking AMC.

The biggest reason I managed to win with Southampton was due to.

- Great man management and coaching of the players
- Being good in picking the squad for each game
- Having an easy schedule in the first 10 matches
- NO other team had a great season

Most of our losses actuially came in the last 4th of the season. Here, we had many matches against much stronger opponenents and as the players where getting really tired, we got worse results against them in these meetings than in the first meeting of the season.

I also noticed when switching to the TC version that the mentality bar is on awkward (low) and closing down drops aswell.

Then its either something to do with the game actually not working properly ( not yours, but all copys), it taking into account the Team mentality bar ( that is not used in the classic) versus the Strategy, the PLayers closing down versus the Press system in the TC. IN the end, it shoudl only look at what is under the hood, the actuall settings.

I must say though, I have not seen this in any of my saves where I have switched from the Classic to the TC " in-season".

well i will stick with the TC version to see the season out with Macclesfield, im top of the blue sq perm by 10 points with 8 games left.
the DMC his 'run from deep box was unticked, so i ticked it and had it set at sometimes, is this correct?

Yes, thats correct

Hello again tbh,

I just wanted to ask your opinion on set peices. I've changed the defending cornors slightly as I prefer to micromanage match on match so I get the most out of my players when defending. At the moment my team is as follows :

GK : Reina (Default)
DR : Kelly (Mark Tall ; he is good in the air so he marks tall. If Johnson plays there I select Man Mark instead)
DCR : Skrtel (Mark Tall)
DCL : Agger (Mark Tall)
DL : Enrique (Near Post)
DMCR : Melo (Far Post)
MCL : Lucas (Man Mark ; Better marking then Enrique)
ML : Yarmolenko (Fwd ; Fast)
AMC : Gerrard (Edge of Box ; Good tackling and passing so he can charge down anyone who tries long shots)
AMR : Belhanda (Close Down Cornor ; So it's harder for cornor taker to get a good cornor in)
FCL : Suarez (Fwd ; Fast)

I've used this set up since start of the season and I've only conceeded 3 from cornors all season. I think this is a good set up and a good alternative if people find their conceeding a lot.

However I wanted to pick your brain regarding your attacking cornors. Currently you've got 4 back, 1 lurk, 1 short, 1 fwd, 1 attack near post, 1 challenge keeper, 1 attack from deep. What was your thinking behind this? Was your striker good in the air? Do you set one of the players who is back as your cornor taker?
