***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Sorry I've been a little MIA the last couple of days. I've had a lot on. I've been toying with different styles, ideas and positions at the moment and I'm not settled quite yet.

The most recent thing I've been testing is having the stopper on the left CD and the cover on the right. The reason for this is because when the left back bombs forward he'll come across quicker to close an opposition player down then a covering defender would. Also I like to think of it this way. The left back bombs forward, that leaves you with 3 defenders defending (like a 3 man line). That means you'd have the middle CD as a covering defender hence the right CD.

Also this has a knock on effect. The DLP moves over to the left and the DMC to the right. This puts your best creative player on the same side as your AML and attacking fullback and your best "defensive" side on the right. What it also does is you can make the MR a little more versatile. I'm experimenting him as "moves into channels" because if he moves inside, the box to box DMC can overlap to his right or if he goes down the line the B2B can make a dash into the near post.

Just little ideas I'm toying with at the mo :)

Sounds AMAZING!........ but can it be implemented into FM the same way?

To some degree yes, maybe I won't be able to get the DMC to work in the way that I want him to but I can get him quite close. Ideally what I want to do is make this 4-2-3-1 defend like a 4-1-2-2-1 (which it already does.. DR-DC-DC-DL; DMC; MR-MC; AMC-AML; FC) but attack like a 3-3-1-3 (DR-DC-DC; DMC-MC-DL; AMC; MR-FC-AML) with some versatility. The "1" can either be the AMC (MR-FC-AML become attackers) the AML (MR-FC-AMC become attackers) MR (FC-AMC-AML become attackers) or FC (MR-AMC-AML become attackers). It might be worth experimenting with a "global" mentality for them so they become more fluid or having the FC on a lower mentality but still RFD as often.

As I said, so many things I want to test however time is against me and I can only do one at a time lol

TBH, if you're answered this already I apologize. When choosing who will play AML, should I tinker much with the settings, for instance changing it from AP to IF or W, or just leave the settings as they are but make sure I have the right PPMs for what I want the guy to do? I'm planning to play as Dortmund with Reus as AML, and he will play as an IF.

As he is NOT setup with any " with the ball" option( like cut inside or huge touchline) in the wide play settings, you can use any kind of winger without changing the role/settings. Just make sure his skills match his PPMs.

Naturally, if you have a player with 2 in crossing, it's better to set his crossing to rarely.

There's my tweak on the tactic although I'm sure TBH will be releasing his own soon.

Tweaks (I've kept it as the TC version so people can mess around with it in FMC as well) :

Set Peices : I've tweaked them so they are "generic" so all you have to do is tweak for your own team. Defending Free Kicks is default however defending cornors is pretty generic for any team and worked as well with Liverpool as WBA. If you're conceeding a lot you might want to use match training. Attacking cornors is set up so your stopper is challenging the keeper, your faster covering is attacking the near post, the striker feeds off scraps at the far post. DPL is lurking outside the box to recycle possesion however this could be the AMC as well. 1 player comes short, either your AMC or the other winger and then a player attacks from deep. Preferably someone with good off the ball skills and anticipation. Attacking free kicks is pretty generic too, set up your best free kick taker, if your AMC is a good long shooter ask him to stand with him, have two players distrupt the wall, your stopper CD attack the keeper.

AML : More attacking mentality. TBH advised to set him up as a wide trequartista when I was talking to him so his mentality now matches the striker. RFD are now set as Rarely, again tipped by TBH.

Closing down : More aggressive closing down to harrass opponents. I felt the prior CD was not high enough.

DMC Passing : Reverted it back to low mixed as it was in the original tactic. Direct passing was just a little too aggressive I think. Hard tackling re-introduced as well.

Tempo + Timewasting : Higher then original, lower then the TC version. I felt slow was a little too patient however I think low normal and higher timewasting gives a nice probing balance to the tactic. Feel free to tweak the timewasting if you feel you're not creating enough chances.

With this tactic I came 3rd in the PL with West Brom and won the title first season with Liverpool. No signings made for both teams. Hope it works for you guys too! :)

Played 5 games so far with the tweaked tactics and the defense is much more solid. I haven't conceded any goals yet during that stretch which included 2 Premier games, 1 European Championship group, and 1 Capital One Cup. Thanks Justified.

hey mate, ive made a tactic myself thats a similar outlay to yours, (all over the place) :P, ive got a AMC, i dont want to play a playmaker but can i still have him as a AP? or would you advise something else?

been using ur one for the 2nd season with southampton, and in january im top of the league by 3 points with a game in hand.
ive scored 36 and let in 8 in the league. im also unbeaten in the league, i drew the first 4 games with this tactic and have won every single game ever since (apart from away against madrid in champs league group stage 2-1, but i beat them 1-0 at home)

this is the best tactic ive use on this patch by far, its doesnt score loads but its so defensively solid, i get alot of 2-0 wins.

my keeper (forster) hasnt conceeded in 908 minutes.....
