You can try it. Although the thought behind the approach won't be the same, results might still be better for your team.

Sup people,

I just started a new save with Celtic on LFC Marshalls latest update.

I don't know how Celtic play so if anyone could give me a hand with creating a tactic to suit their team

Thanks

Whats the best pitch size for this tactic ? Searched the whole thread and found no mention in your posts.

Thanks

Defense is very very leaky for me(Arsenal), over the top balls are just destroying the back four, haven't had a clean sheet in the first five games, have conceded 9 goals. Also, Cavani seems to be getting really low ratings as the CF(s), like 6.2 - 6.6 every game, he's only scored 1 goal so far(defender mistake)...so, any suggestions?

Tried it for around 20 games, it worked fantastic. All the my regular players averaging over 7.5 minus Robben who had an average of 7.3. Only drew to games and was unbeaten. The only problem I had was the fact every game I had over 30 shots unless I was against a team like Dortmund or City (group stages) and I was only getting about 10 of those on target. One particular game against hoffenheim I drew 1 all with 43 shots 7 on target.... Think it is more to so with the players liking long shots

Have you tweaked the formation or tactics? I am thinking of buying Cavani and I'm shocked to here that's how hes doing. Lukaku got me 7 in his first 3 games although he sort of calmed down after that.

Haven't tweaked anything so far, and finally got my first clean sheet which was against Chelski at home, a 2-0 win but one was a penalty and another was a corner. I'm not able to play much of late though

The Different 4231
A set of 3 Tactics
by TheBetterHalf

As there have been ever so many threads asking about a nice working 4231 that produces results for various teams, I thought I would share my opinion on the subject.

Disclaimer

This thread is NOT about getting results by exploiting the Match Engine
It’s about trying to beat the opponent by using one and one core approach only, but in 3 different ways.
It’s not about using these exact uploaded tactics but instead, trying to learn from my reasoning so please feel free to change the settings and the roles of the front 3, back 4 if you feel it suits your need.

Found as attachment at the end of this opening post

Abstract

In this thread, you will find 3 different uploaded tactics. As you may notice, many of the sliders have been tweaked so shouts will not have the same function as you are used to. The tweaked sliders also mean that it’s important that you actually look at the individual settings of the players rather than the names of the roles.

You see, just as in real life, it’s important to understand what a 4231 really is. It’s not a formation that sits deep and holds possession, nor is it one that lets you drag the opposition on to you before launching quick attacks as the main function of the formation is to play aggressive and overload the opponents defense.

This means that when wanting to play more cautious and even defensive, it’s better to use a different formation, a different triangel in the central midfield.

Here, I am offering 3 different approaches, all using the Counter Strategy. I have not included the “451/433” using a DMC-MC-MC formation as its one that I find better used by just changing roles and strategies, i.e., using the Tactic Creator to its full. Instead, we are focusing on the following approaches.

Besides the normal things like man management and forming and developing a balanced squad full of players that actually wants to win, the key to success lies in knowing when to use what formation.is this not a hard task for the casual games then, the casual gamer that this thread is most likely to attract the attention of? Well, not really. The important thing is try to understand what the 3 different approaches aims for and, voila, here it is.

  • Make sure that you understand why you are choosing the approach
  • Make sure that what you are doing is something actually called for
  • Make sure that whatever you are doing, you’re doing it slightly better than what the opponents are trying to do

The 3 Formations/approaches

An aggressive and more attacking approach

p30j.png

Here, the aim is to hassle the opponent and make them give away the ball cheaply. It’s not about possession, but where you hold it. If being 2-0 and only having 49 %, so what. This only means that even that they have more possession; they can’t cope with our approach.

One more patient and probing

7g1.png

Using this approach, you will see many different flows of the game, different possession stats due to how the opposition and playing, their formation and how well the 22 players are performing.

If your game plan using this approach is to keep things tight without conceding/( like away to an equal team), then don’t be embarrassed/ getting all nervy of only holding 40 % possession. As long as you are winning your share of the tackles and have a good passing completion stat, then it’s all fine and dandy. If the result is coming in nicely. Home to the same team, you should see a more dominate homeside. If not feeling in control of this game, then I would again look at those match stats and after that, perhaps either grind out a result or use a more aggressive approach (the 4231)

One more deep,compact AND DIRECT
i8xf.png

Here, we sit deeper with 2 more attacking DMcs infront of the line of Defense. These 2 DMC/MCs hits direct balls into channels for our front 3 to run onto. As you can imagine, if being under pressure by a better or equal team playing a probing, yet attacking football with the their fullbacks supporting their wingers rather than bombing forward, well, then the there is no space for these t-balls to rip open.

If the opponent on the other hand should open themselves up to us or if we are coping with their pressing, then we can either put those quick and direct balls into channels (often outnumbering them 3-2) or keep possession.

As all of these strategies use the Counter Strategy, the flow will look very different depending on how the opposition fields its troops and what instructions they are given

Examples

TEAMS - Arsenal( Wtithout transfers),
Here, I am presenting some examples. If playing as Everton/Wigan etc, well then just imagine how you would rank your opponnet

( Home) Swansea – Expect 3 points

In most games against opponents we really should beat, I would start with the 4231, the approach that lets us dictate the game and push back the opponent.

If everything goes as planned, just stay with the approach but as soon as you see your players stop closing down as a unit( due to being tired, complacent etc.), then I would retreat to the
Deep 4231 to make sure we don’t invite them back in the game.

If we are struggling, then use the analyzing toll to see where we go wrong

(Away) Swansea/Lesser team – Going for 3 points, settling with 1 point if struggling

A different story altogether. No away games are easy when playing in the perm and neither is this one. Here, I would start with the Deep 4231 to make sure we don’t get punished for being too attacking. If you should see a big loss in possession without any of the teams actually producing dangerous chances, then I would say that they are simply sitting deep and playing compact without using the Counter approach and using many t-balls.

Here, you will naturally have a choice. I would start the 2ns half the same way but monitor the first 10 minutes closely. If you are losing many tackles, then it might be that your team is just not playing good and then, I would not really risk using the
4231. If we should start getting more in control of the game possession wise, then I would again monitor where the possession has. Is it in advanced positions, amongst our back 4 etc.? If we should score a goal and after 65 minutes seeing them push up their team and all of a sudden, they seem to be in charge, then perhaps use the 42121, sitting deeper and trying to punish them with a swift t-ball

Should we be 1-0 down and not getting any chances, not looking like catching up, well then it’s time for the
4231. Should we not being in control at all even though the score is 0-0, then it’s a risk and reward situation. Are your players being nervous, anxious, having a bad day, then see out the game. If not, then use the 4231.

In the end, it’s your call

(Home) Liverpool/ Almost equal - Going for 3 points, settling with 1 point if struggling

Here against the other “topteams”, I would perhaps use the Deep 4231 to start with and monitor the first 10 minutes closely. Changes in the scenario would be like in the (A) Swansea. But...if feeling like you have the advatage in terms of quality, form etc, then go for the 4231

(Away) Liverpool Going for 1 point, will risk it for 3 points

Here, I would start with the Deep 4231 and again, I would use the same approach as in the (A) Swansea.

(Home) Chelsea/Better team Going for 3 points, settling with 1 point if struggling

Here, I would start with the Deep 4231 and again, I would use the same approach as in the (A) Swansea.

(Away) Chelsea (A) Going for 1 point, will NOT risk it for 3 points
Here, it’s the same scenario all over again although as written, it’s a risk and reward situation and here, we don’t want to risk anything. If reverting down to the 42121 and we can’t cope with the pressure, and then use the 4231. If we seem to get more in control using it, then see out the game with it

The Players

The Central Midfield.

As written before, this thread is mostly about how and when to use these 3 different triangles. There for, I have decided to go more in-depth in these 3 roles needed

DMC/MC - The Box 2 Box DMC/MC
This player is used to the Right either as a MC or a DMC. In the 42121, just this one in the MC slot.

When using an approach like this, it’s best to have 3 of these. One important first team player and two rotation player

The non-stop of this Defensive Box-2-Box Midfielders enables him to contribute greatly both in defending and attacking

In attacks, he pushes up to support the midfield and forward, often surging late in to the box to get on to the end of crosses and pullbacks as well as proving a threat from distance.

In defense, he harries attacking midfielders and helps protect the defensive line.

If having a player that is able to both be creative enough and having the mind to decide when to make an easy pass and when to try that more adventuress through ball, it makes him a Complete DMC/MC able to carry out most duties

DMC/MC – The Deep-Lying Playmaker
This players is used to the Left, either as a MC or a DMC

When using an approach like this, it’s best to have 2 of these. One important first team player and one rotation player.

The Deep-Lying Playmaker operates in the space between the defense and midfield and aims to initiate attacking moves via pinpoint passes to players positioned higher up in the pitch.

Although primarily a creative player, the Deep-Lying Playmaker also has to be competent in the art of defense.

In his Defend duty, the Deep-Lying Playmaker will fulfill extra defensive responsibilities by holding position in front of the defense and will rarely look to support attacks.

AMC – The Trequartista
This player is used in the AMC spot. When using the 42121, he is simply not used

The Trequartista can operate in the attacking or center forward position.

Here, the best way is probably to have one first team player and one you can rotate with him and with the wingers.

While similar to the advanced Playmaker in that he aims to drop into the holes between the opponent’s midfield and defense, the Trequartista does far less defensively and simply drifts around looking for space when the team is not in possession

As such, the rest of the team needs to carry him when defending, but use him and his movement when attacking

The rest

FC
Well, as you see, I have chosen to use a very mobile FC on all approaches. Don’t be fooled about is “ Target Man Role” but instead, look at it this way

  • Top teams . Use the most complete FC you have that is NOT a Trequartista
  • Middle teams ( not affording a complete FC). Use the player that looks most like an advanced FC
  • Underdogs. Use an Physical monster or a poacher
The Wingers
Feel free to change their wide play as this is not the core of this approach. Just make sure that it suit the player and the approach.

The Back 4
Just look at their settings. Use the best you have and take notice of their ppms.

SHOUTS
As many of the settings have been tweaked, they won’t have the desired effect so don’t use them

OPPOSITION INSTRUCTIONS

None has been used during the testing/making of the tactic

PLAYMAKER

The most left MC is used as one in the 4231 and CAN be used in this version. Mind you, the better the opponent is at closing him down versus his quality,...its a risk and reward thing

TARGET MAN

Nope. none used but if having a trylu great FC that is better than most defenders ( think CCC, Leguase one etc), then use the FC as one as long as it does gets you results

TRAINING

TEAM
As it’s a mix between having creative players AND using a high energy approach, no overall team training is actually better than the other. If you have a young team that really lacks in Physic or Ball Control (the Mourinho way), then alter between these 2 until they get better at this. If they should lack in cleverness, then use tactics etc. Remember that training only makes your player’s focus that bit extra (on the cost of the rest) stats and is not something that influences anything short term.

Personally, I always go with a tactic approach that actually suits my team so therefor, I use Balanced training and combine it with individual ones
.

INDIVIDUALL TRAINING
When looking at the needed stats for the roles and you see that a player has a soft spot, then focus on that one. If the player has no real weakness that will undermine his performance in this role, then focus on letting him become a world beater in one of the more important stats. If the target man somewhat lacks in cleverness, then why not let him train the stats of a Trequartista.

Remember that the player does not learn a role but instead trains that little bit extra for those stats the game considers important for the chosen role

A Guide to Training

The main Team Training screen is presented as below:

Click here to view the original image of 758x439px and 167KB.
30607729.png

The immediate next three weeks are laid out day-by-day in calendar form, displaying what's planned on a weekly basis and how your match schedule falls into place around your training schedule. From here, you're able to set up exactly how you want to approach the short and medium term fixture list.

Gone are the days of devising and creating a series of schedules for players to train under. The entire focus now is on the team as a group and how they work towards each match.

Across the top of the screen are three main sections

General Training
Scheduling
Match Training

'General Training' allows you to set up a Default Focus and Intensity for how the team should work as a rule of thumb. Select one area for the team to generally work on, and determine how hard you want them to work at it.

The 'Scheduling' slider tweaks how much you want to adopt a match-by-match approach compared to an overall focus on your own team. In effect, this controls how concerned you are about matching the opposition and attempting to annul their strengths or exploit their weaknesses compared to how much you want to accentuate your own team's positives and take the initiative.

The 'Match Training' section allows you to set a specific focus area to work on in the immediate days before each match, as well as whether you want to include rest days before and after matches.

Once you've set up your general approach, you can then delve into the more intricate details of the weekly approach. If you decide that a particular upcoming fixture requires special attention, then you can choose to alter the Focus for that week and override your default 'General Training' instructions. Each Focus has its own colour code on the calendar layout, providing visual confirmation of the changes you've made.

The day before each match (or the two days before if you move the 'Scheduling' slider towards 'More Match Training') is designated to Match Preparation. This has previously resided in the Tactics section, but has now been fully integrated into the Training section. If you feel the need to deviate from your General and Weekly Focus in a bid to pay even greater attention to detail for a specific opponent, now's the time to do so.

By presenting three weeks of the schedule at a time, you're able to keep abreast of the nuances in your fixture list and how it might affect your players. A light schedule of one match per week or fewer might invite an opportunity to work on one area with a greater intensity and can provide great progress in a short period of time.

However, if you're faced with a backlog of matches with as many as three per week, you might not have the time nor the physical capability within the squad to do anything other than work on your own game and attempt to preserve the squad's fitness as best possible.

Individual Players

Whilst the focus on individual schedules has gone, you can still work on areas of individual players' games and attempt to refine their profiles. Professional players tend to train together in groups - either as a whole team or within their general positions - on a day to day basis and work to refine a particular aspect of their game outside of this time; either scheduled by the coaches or of their own volition.

The 'Individual' sub-tab presents your squad; select a player's table row to bring up his Training Report on the right hand side of the screen.

From here, you can set up a new Individual Training Focus or begin training them in a New Position and adjust their Intensity at which they work on their additional craft. Advice and updates from your coaching staff is offered on all of this, beginning with a breakdown of the percentage of their additional time being spent on each area.

The 'Individual Training Focus' aspect of development allows you to target a specific area of a player's attribute profile and focus extra work on it.

For example, you may have a talented defender who is lacking a bit in the heading department. In order to try and address this, you can select 'Heading' as an individual focus. If it's particularly weak, increasing the intensity will request that he works at it harder and for a longer period of time.

You can keep track of the effect this is having, if at all, by clicking on 'View Attribute Development'. Select a 'Training Category' from the drop-down menu to label the appropriate attributes for that area in different colours, which area also plotted on the graph at the bottom to show month-by-month progress.

Individuall Focus - A role
When chosing a role, it means that the player focus a little extra on the key stats for the role. Here, you have a player that is focusing on becoming a more suitable Ball playing Defender.

Coaches
The 'Coaches' tab, available from the tabs in the bottom panel, controls how your coaching staff handles training. Each coach is, by default, assigned to work in every aspect of training, unless they are of a specific type (i.e. goalkeeping or fitness), in which case they are restricted to that area only.

Each member of your backroom staff is likely to be particularly proficient in a particular aspect of training. If this is the case, it is worthwhile to assign them to this/these area(s) only. Proficiency in an aspect of training is graded on a star rating, one star being poor whilst five stars are excellent.

A higher number of stars will increase the effectiveness of the training schedules on your players. A coach with high attributes in key areas who is only assigned to coach categories he is strong in will result in a much better training schedule.

In order for your coaches to be as useful as possible to you in your training schedules, you should endeavour to find the correct attributes required for more stars in their area of training.

Strength: Coaches should have a high Fitness rating.
Aerobic: Coaches should have a high Fitness rating.
Goalkeeping: Coaches should have a high Coaching Goalkeepers rating.
Tactics: Coaches should have a high Tactical rating.
Defending: Coaches should have high ratings in Coaching Defending and Tactical.
Ball Control: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Technical and Mental.
Attacking: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Attacking and Tactical.
Shooting: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Attacking and Technical.

Youth
Everything in this section applies to Youth Training. Your youth team players will train together, but bear in mind that as younger players who are still physically developing, intensities will behave differently and you may have to balance and fine-tune things a bit more accurately to get the best out of them. Your senior coaches may work with the youth team in addition to youth team coaches if you wish to give them the benefit of their strengths and experience, whilst youth players may be invited to train with the first team should you wish them to do so (by promoting them into a squad above the youth team).
SET PIECES
As this tactic is just a tweak of my old ones, they contain the same instructions. In all my tactics, these have never been setup as I cant know who your best corner taker is or what players that are most leathal in the air. So, you have to set them up your selfes

For the "An aggressive and more attacking approach" do you think it would still work as well if I changed the wingers to inside forewords with cut inside wide play?

Indeed.

Just look at these approaches as the core or the tactics, the balance between the tempo, he closing down, their defensive positioning etc.Change the wide play to suit your players. Just remember that it needs to match their skills, the flow of the game, the space created and the space exploited (, e you need both to create space by movement and use the space with same, on and off the ball)

Gonna test this with my Roma save just about to start the 2nd season and i also have Totti an awesome Trequarista gonna see how it goes in the league and our 1st season in the UCL (Won the league)

Here are the first 4 matches

I started with the DEPP 4231 as this was our first game of the season, I had many injured an this squad is/was not as good as it looks
Anyway, these are the stats. I don’t really care too much about them as it’s the first game but

Aston Villa (Home)

Here is game we NEED to win and we did. I Used the 4231 until I saw that the players stopped putting into the effort (4-0), then used the DEEP 4231 for see things out without conceding

Swansea ( Home) Just like the Villa game

I naturally started with the DEEP 4231. They help possession but did not press me that much in their final third, nor push up their team. At the one time, they did try to close my DMCleft down, we launched a quick attack and we scored. In the 2nd half, we got in possession and we saw the game out using the 42121, almost scoring one more goal

Next match, '

Gladbach ( away)

We started with the DEPP 4231 and we controlled the game, scorfing 1-0. Then THEY had a send off and it was easy for us, scorfing 2-0.

IF they had pushed us, us only being 1-0, I wold have changed to the 4231 to really overload them.

I have not pinpointed ant REDS or BLUES for this game due to the send off. We won, that is all that counts

I think you will like this approach.

One hint; If in doubtm use the DEEP 4231 for the first 1-4 minues and look at the WHOLE match, then change to something more agressive/deeper.

What was ur Arsenal line up and do you think changing to Inside Forwards would ruin performance
