***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Tricky question ad it would depend on the player and the team you are using. Statistically, the player will fail though.
If playing in lower divisions trying to climb the ladder in the league system, its usless getting hot prospects that young as when he is ready for action , you have already got 2 divisions higher up and he will still be poor.

Eg. My Anchor man (age of 14) is valued 40k and still is better than my 26 year old Anchor man - just thinking if to sign him for real or just exploit that his wage of 40 E p/w.

I've had a really good first season with Fulham, ending sixth (a goal away from fourth) and reaching the fa cup final. We did really well against better teams, using control and counter. Beating Manchester United and Liverpool both home and away for example.

The biggest struggle came against direct playing teams, like Sunderland and WBA. It never looks like they come out of defence, using 2 dmc's and fullbacks who sit back. They mostly passed the ball forward on players running. Struggeled to break down teams defending deep as well, using attacking and overload. That might be down to lacking creative players. Most of the time they would ping passes arround the oponents box without really trying to threaten. So the oponent just had to sit tight and not get dragged out of position.

I've just started the second season and played Sunderland away. They used their normal 4231 with two dmc. I started the game in cautious, not sure what to expect. After 20 mins we had kept the ball 60% of the time, but not created anything. They had created 2 ccc's, one from Sessegnon just running through both midfield and defence, and one ball over the defence. They slowly got more of the possession and literally kicked my midfield of the pitch (defence passing to fullback or midfielder who gets closed down and tackeled). Switched to counter to up the tempo and get the ball forward quicker. I did not change the match picture very much, since their closing down was way to fast for my players to cope with. Since their fullbacks always sat back thei controlled my wingers. Sunderland just kept playing direct, trying to hot balls behind my defence. Second half was very much the same. As I was not sure what to to I kept to cautious and counter to try hold out for a draw. That worked ok as the game ended 0 0. We did not create more than 1 shot on goal, Sunderland 4.

The above scenario is quite the same in every game against direct teams. Heavy closing down leaving my players in a heap and not creating chances.

Would appreciate some good advice on what to do :)

Hmmm, thats not at all my experience?? After a great first 34 games with the old patch, my last 4 games where very poor, with this :( The possesion whent down and the opposition stole the ball from my players alot. Thereby countering while a lot of my guys where upfield. And this even happened on cautious.

Well, I must try again then.
agreed same for me with previus patch it was better i think striker was scoring alot more and gettin decent ratings overall even at the games he doesnt score. but now 1/3 games he gets 6.0 5.8 ratings same goes with the inside forwards if they dont assist or score automaticly their ratings drops to 6.0 specialy at away games doesnt matter who u play wigan or southampton dont get many chances as b4 :(

Well, the first thing I do is to make a plan for the player for the coming 5 years

- what kind of roles will he be likely to play in my team. Is it a backup players, a supersub, a new rotation player, a new star, one
that I will sell to gain money etc

'- what kind of player is he now, and what element does he need to focus on to become better than his opponent.

- do I actually use this kind of player in my tactic

After this, I do just like you suggested, I train him to become better in certain areas to suit the role of role x. If the player has a major weakness that undermines his overall performance, I train that specific stat straight away but otherwise, I leave it until he is a bit older.

Right cheers mate so from this I will use an example of a young wonderkid, can you tell me if you agree on the way I would train them please?

1) Jadson (Defensive Midfielder wonderkid from Botafogo) - So from the advice you have given me I would:

- Set his focus on the tactical position Defensive Midfielder until aged 24 and then if I notice an individual attribute that needs training I will do that thereafter until the end of the career? Do you agree with this?

For players 24 or above I just focus on individual attribute training as there is no real improvement?

Not really. You can still shift stats until the day he retires. Also reflect over that some players need to be in " role" training if you go for à Team Training that focus on lets say Attack, i Tactics etc.
Like if playing à Fluid 451 focusing on Attacking Training but you still use an anchorman that cant afford loosing out in his defensive stats, or if playing à rigid 4411 focusing on Physics, but you are using à TQ, then he needs to keep up in those stats crucial for his instructions

Ahhhhh thanks a lot man that clears it up greatly.

Just one last question, is training a player in a new position at any age, no matter how young alright?

Thanks, your advice is really helpful you have certainly given me a lot I will implement into the game!

I would try to train the player as Young as possible to make sure that he is used there in the reserves etc.

hey TBH!

did playing with a sweeper work well for you?

want to work on an interpretation of the dutch total football tactic, with RB and LB set to defense, stopper CB, with very high-dline and closing down and a sweeper in behind them mopping up any loose balls or players. They will also have a BWM set to defensive in front of them. the idea is to create a box in between these players, where any player or ball is closed down immediately, leaving the sweeper to take care of anything thats gets past this web. think it might work? the BWM will have two BBM's to support him too.

i'm at work and had this idea after reading some articles and making some drawings, desperate to get home and try it out!

thanks!

I am looking for a formation to use for Swindon Town FC in League 1. A team with some average players, and some very poor players. Any help would be very grateful!!

Hi, TBH! I tried your 352 Diamond tactic with Leeds for nearly half a season in Championship. You did a good job overall but there are some flaws causing problems for me. Opposition's wingers (and overlapping fullbacks) are causing too much trouble. I understand that this is a natural weakness of this tactic. However the teams, using it (mostly Italian, Juventus in example), often manage to nullify it. My team is not capable of doing that (even though the wide midfielders A. White and and D. Norris are decent in defense) and every single match I am getting serious headaches. Also, enemy strikers are finding the channels between the DC and DCR/DCL too easily. The AMC (P. McGowan) in the team is not getting involved enough in the game when my team is attacking even though he has Comes Deep to Get the Ball PPM. Sometimes he manages to score a goal however he is the player who has to produce the most key passes and through balls but he often just fades and the team is unable to deliver a good pass to the strikers. Actually the complete forward (L. Becchio) is the player, playing with the ball most often when the ball is near opposition's penalty area. Could this happen because he also has Comes Deep to Get the Ball PPM and he hampers the AMC? The players are:

GK Paddy Kenny
DCL J. Pearce DC R. Austin DCR T. Lees
DMCL G. Whelan DMCR P. Green
ML A. White MR D. Norris
AMC P. McGowan
STCL C. Jerome STCR L. Becchio

Usually starting a match with Cautious, then switching to Counter (if the result is not negative) or Overload (otherwise). Overload works very good (compared to the Overload in your GRANDE WIDE sets) and in some games the team managed to get a draw or a win even though they were losing 0-3 or 0-2. However I do miss the Standard version of your tactics (that was great in FM2012). GRANDE WIDE Sets (especially Counter and Standard versions) did great for me in FM2012 - what kind of changes do you suggest to the 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 tactics in order to be maximum effective in FM2013?

tbh as you know i am a big fan of your tactics and im pretty sure you actualy must have helped design the actual game to be his good, i have noticed one thing that you have nailed...plug and play is gone, you need multiple versions of one line up to change constantly, my question to you is what do you personally feel is your strongest set of 4 for version 13..1.3? cheers mate

Hello TBH. I like your tactic, because a) I don't want to play only with 1 striker, b) I believe you need to have 3 players in midfield to dominate so 4-4-2 in not an option for me and c) I don't believe that AML,AMR are real threats. My only concenr is that in FM13 the teams seem to exploit the wings more. This means that some times my DR/DL will be stuck in the middle of their DR/AMR or DL/AML. How do you overcome this? Do you think that putting one of the 2 wide strikers onAML/AMR position would be more helpful?

Using your tactic ive:
-won the serie A first season with Juve
-finished 9th first season with QPR
-won the portuguese league first season with Benfica
So i already was pretty happy with most of them, with the 4222 however im actually doing even better in 2nd season then in first. Won the league first season with Rangers, second season so far i won 10 of my 11 league games and i score almost 4 goals per game. Because i didnt know of the embargo i only signed 1 player, Piermayr plus a shitload of 17yo's, but Templeton, Shiels and Little are raping teams. I almost always use the attacking version with the AML, DMR.

Anyhow thanks for the tactics.

edit:
season 1 rangers: won league, finished 2nd in leaguecupfinal against celtic
season 2 rangers: won league, won that lower league cup, scored more than 3 per match, conceded 1 in 3 matches. Even tho Rangers has way better players than the other 3d and 2nd div teams im still impressed by the tactic. Very lethal and awesome looking goals.

What tactic would you recommend for BSN/BSS?

You can use any tactic as long as it suits YOUR players. If you have really pacey wingers, then you are more likely to have good results with the Counter versions. If you have à team with ( for the level playing at) good stats in Concentration and first touch but have à slow team, then the C
Posession versions might do well.

The boring answer Will be " It depends on the team" but statitically, the wide 41221 using fullbacks instead Of Wingbacks Will suit the most teams.

Hi!
Just wanted to praise u for the sick amount of effort u put in, and ask u one question. What would be ur starting 11 with Man Utd+ Fellaini? I cant seem to make it work with this set!
