***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Hi, TBH! Since 13.2 launched I use a slightly modified version of your standard 4231 tactic from the Grande Wide sets (most noticeable changes I did were the marking (from man to zonal) and pressing (lowered slightly) of the full backs). I manage Leeds and after selling some players I loaned a few awesome wingers like Karim Ait Fana. He was really playing great (above 8.10 Av Rat) in 10+ matches however his performance after 13.2.1 patch that introduced some match engine changes to dribbling is not satisfying at all. It is not about the Av Rat, I watch every single match and he dribbles rarely now. I wonder what is going on here, my central midfielders and full backs dribble as often as he does even though their run with ball instruction is set to rarely and his instruction is set to often (not to mention he has Run with ball often PPM). As far as I understood from patch notes these changes had to fix dribbling through center but at the moment my AMC (Formica) dribbles twice as often as my wingers! Do you have similar problems in your squad (if you are using wingers of course) and can you suggest further changes to the tactic? Maybe change the marking instruction of my wingers from man tight yes to man tight no so that they are more loose? They are instructed to Hold Up Ball and play like defensive wingers, is this effective with that match engine since I often see them playing with their back to the enemy full back and passing to my full back or someone else rather than face the enemy full back and dribble past him? Thanks in advance!

West Brom

Hello Im looking for some help and guidance to create a great counterattacking 442 with my current team West Brom. The sqaud is pretty much the same, but I have loaned Urby Emmanuelson. So please be kind and give me advice, detailed advice. Like wich sliders I should change and so on.

I would not tweak any sliders apart from the longshots. Why not start out with a Balanced-Counter system, using high press and one deepdropping FC and one Advanced. One Balllwinner on Support and one DPL/Defend. As for the wingers, use them to their best, i.e if you have a slowish player with good passing, then he is a wide mid, if he is quick, the a winger.

After this, I would either use Possession based shouts to play more cautious and draw the opponent onto you, or try to exploit the fact that the opponent is leaving space behind their fullbacks by getting the ball forward and pass into space

Hello,

Just here to say thanks for the guide. This year more than any it has helped massively. The fact that 'plug and play' seems to have been beaten by the match engine for the time being is probably a good thing. It means I have started to play properly for the first time in ages and it is much more rewarding. I read your guide on your 4-5-1 tactic regarding wide play and when to use counter and overload and found that really helpful. I'm using Mansfield Town in the BSP who have a very good budget for that level. I have quick wide players and forwards and so a using a 4-2-2-2 system, attacking wide and defending narrow with defensive fullbacks. Another thing I have found is that, rather than going to each players' individual instructions and setting long shots to 'rarely', long shots can be stopped just as effectively by doing a shout of 'work ball into box' (the opposite of shoot on sight).

Anyway, cheers TBH

From a happy manager

Hi TBH,
I'm about to start a new save. Havn't playd FM for a while now but I tried this tactic just when the game was relesed, and I liked it.
Have you tested this tactic on the latest patch? Any changes made? Or do you think it will work just as good now...?

I have not tested this on 13.2.1 yet so if you try it, please report back with feedback

Hello,

sorry for asking here, but i was not able to find suitable topic and it comes with my training.

I am building top facilities (top+youth), i have exeptional youth training, BUT i have just "above avarage youth recruitment" which bothers me. I want to persuade board to give there more money, but when i go to talk with board - i cannot find suitable option - i just find networking and youth recruitment network and i see just two options how to cut back money. Is there some kind of prequisite needed to improve it, or anything else?

Hi,
Was wondering if you could help me to shore up my defence. I won the Bundesliga title in 2021 with Mainz, but conceded 36 league goals in 34 games. I would like to concede less without sacrificing the attacking threat that got the team to 110 league goals that season. Can you help me please?

Sure, just tell me how you play ( tactically and match coaching).
Also, these goals you concede, are many of them when leading 3-0 and the game ends 3-1 ?

Hey TBH, I was wondering if you could help me...lets just say make my FM 2013 more enjoyable. At this point Ive tried quite a bit of tactics and they have half worked half not. It always seems like I start out well in the season and then it all comes crushing down with losses to the likes of Reading, Blackburn etc. Ive decided to try to make my own tactic again but I need some training wheels... First of all I play Arsenal and it is the original squad + M'Villa for defensive midfield and Luke Shaw to develop as I will not be keeping Santos for more then a season.

First of all I like to play formations such as, 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-2-1. In the midfield I generally like to play a defensive and a offensive mixture such as BWM and DLP etc. Especially with Wilshere being best at DLP from what Ive seen so far.

Second is how important is it to have Home and Away tactic? Ive been using just one tactic and sometimes rotating a bit more defensive players for away games.

I would setup 2 approaches

4231 with MCs

Very Fluid - Control - Press more - Short Passing
Here, I would use the shouts Exploit flanks. Using one Ballwinner or BBM on support and one DLP on defend or support
4231 with DMCs

Balanced - Counter - Normal passing
Here, I would use retain possession and play wider. DMC on defend, DPL on support

These would be my normal setup. If playing "away" or rather against teams you feel you dont want to attack but instead sit deeeper and pull them onto you, the use the "Counter". When playing at home, or rather, when faing teams where you feel you should be in control and stretch their defence, then use "Control"

Yo TBH,

Just a quick question. When creating a three man defence with wingbacks (or, indeed, wide midfielders I guess), how do you set up their marking? I've found tight zonal marking to work best so far (since loose zonal allows them to get crosses in, tight man leaves one of either the opposition full-back or winger free, and loose man seems to be the worst of both worlds) but I'd like to get your opinion on it.

The strikers are set to swap with each other and the wingers man mark the opposing widemen, or in the absence of widemen, the closest midfielders the opposition have to widemen.

And that's the match training.

Sometimes the goals are conceded when in what should be comfortable leading positions that end up being pulled back to one goal, or sometimes I just have matches where I concede pretty much straight away.View attachment 296904View attachment 296905View attachment 296906
I hope this is enough information for you to help.

Hey!

A small but possibly important part of the game that I have not personally explored as much as I probably should have; holding up the ball. I'd like to hear your take on this subject, do you use this setting on your players with thought, leave it as default, maybe you don't let anyone hold up the ball. Overall what kind of impact this setting might have on how the team plays.

The question above is just overall brainstorming, not relating to a specific tactic. In a nutshell; overall, what are the best positions and type of players that I would want to hold up the ball?

Thanks in advance for any answer you may come up with. ^^)

Hi there, gotta say I do like this tactic very much. Just one question (which might be very obvious answer but haven't played any FM game since 09.) How come I cant do shouts mid game when using this tactic?

It's not made with the Tactic Creator so shouts are disabled.

Oh ok, thanks for the quick reply. Read through the whole guide, rather than my usual lazy self and just download the tactics, and used the info you gave to go from 3-0 down to PSG to winning 7-3 by switching from attack to CA. 7 goals in 32 mins once I changed :)

Wow !! What Counter versions did you use ? The one attached at the bottom of the post, the one linked to at the top or the one linked to at the bottom ?

Cheers

Hi TBH.
For the first time I decided to make my own tactic. At this moment I am managing Hibernian, and it's my 4th season now. I have a pretty decent team, the only problem, i think, is that all my players are very young.
I haven't won anything yet, only being 2nd in League for two times and a 5th place, and being runner-up in League Cup in first season.

Here, I will let some screenshots of my team.

Formation and team instructions
ScrQ7.png

First XI
GK - Jim Fergunson
DL - Graeme Kelly
DR - Andrew Black
CD - Bradley Donaldson
CD - Robert Wilson
CM - Tow Taiwo or Adam Baptie
BBM - Patrick Waller
IF - Abderrahim Yildirim
W - Sam Stanton or Nerijus Lukosevicius
AP - Matthew Bates or Nerijus Lukosevicius
P - Danny Handling

As you see, they are all very young (except Tom Taiwo), but a very good team in my opinion. I use TC and shouts, haven't touch in any slider.
I would like some advice from you, if my team instructions are ok, if any player roles "colide" with each other (for example my BBM with AP), what shouts to use, etc.
If you want any more screenshot just let me know. Sorry for my English :)
