***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

what is the best role for a goal scoring loan striker ? currently playing a deep lying forward up there but he only has around 3-4 shots per games and a stupid amount of long shots even though its set to rarely and its not in his PPM, im currently spurs and have jovetic and adebayor theres a large mix of balls played into them from balls to feet, into space and crosses

hello, which tactic recommend me for Galatasaray the first season ?(13.2.1)
thanx

Hey TBH, I'm playing my first season in the MLS with Real Salt Lake. Going to set up with a 4-3-1-2 as that's what they play and probably best suited for. My team has the worst teamwork and marking in the league, about middle of the pack in everything else. But second in midfield creativity and third for finishing in attackers.

I've heard possession tactics aren't doing well in 13.2, suggestions?

The Better Half´s SPLIT 451**Updated with New version***

The Better Half´s
SPLIT 451

Here is a little project that is a simple Plug & play Tactic. Attached you will find 2 Tactics. One called TBH SPLIT 451 MR version and this is the one described in the post. The other one is called "ML" version and is the mirror of the first one. If you use the "Mirrored", then the flow and the roles will be the other way around

You dont "switch" between the tactics other than to suit your actuall squad and the settings are exactly the same

THE TACTIC

gw2i.png

Left side
Here, the buildup is more swift and mostly consists of an attacking fullback supporting the Winger that’ is used in a Ronaldo-esque role. Our Deep-Lying Playmaker is also used on this side and when he sees it fit to slow things down - when a counter attack is not on - he often switch flank to the…..

Right side.
Here, we have a Ball-playing DC that often starts the attacks and either plays a t-balls into channels to our MR or the Explosive DMC. Our Fullback and Winger make nice overlaps together with the DMC, using triangles to draw the opponents on to them.

Both sides put together
by using this split formation, we give ourselves the opportunity to have many dimension in our build up. We can play a direct ball onto our FC, we can play a possession based approach and drag the opponents on to us by using triangles in midfield. We have the width with our MR and left Wingback (in the DL position). We have crosses from both left and right and we have people taking runs from both the left, right and the center

If the opponents sit deep, the right side is more likely to be able to drag the opponent onto us and if they play aggressive and push up, then the left side can easily retain possession in an advanced position whilst still having cover by the MC if losing the ball.

Naturally, the flow of the game will depend on the quality and preferred moves of your players but regardless of opponent, it gives you the chance to dominate the area of the pitch where you beat them in quality using this multi dimension approach.

In short, it’s a good approach if wanting to stretch the opponent sideways and be able to overload every area of the field

The FC & AMC partnership
No matter what approach you are using, it’s important to have players that partner up and complete each other. It might be a False 9 along with a False 10, a Ball-winner along with an anchorman behind. In this tactic, we use a Complete FC and a False 10. This means that one player is to move between the lines as he sees fit whilst the other gets forward. Now. If you attacker has the ppm “comes deep to get ball”, then he is actually playing the role of a Trequartista, A False 9. Here, it’s really important that the AMC does not have the same ppm as no player will stretch the defense sideways, players moving deep without anyone exploiting the hole in their defense.

With this said, it’s perfectly alright to use a player like Dzeko in the FC role as long as you don’t use Aguero or Tevez in the AMC spot as they all likes to come deep to get the ball.. If really wanting to use this with those players, then just set the FC to run from deep =often.

THE FLOW
1.

Here we have a build up on the left side. Our MC has the ball ansd can either use the left flank or switch the ball to the right where loads and loads of space is found. Also notice the way that we have dragged Arsenals team apart, leaving a big whole in the middle.

leftbuildup.png

We decide to switch flank onto our MR

leftbuildup2.png

Our Winger can now either huge the touchline and cross or try to get inside ( he choses this). As you can see, he has lost of passing options. He can use a pass & move option or run with the ball and put it into channels into our FC
leftbuildup3.png

Here, he has dribbled forward and puts the ball into channels onto our FC that slots it home into the far corner

leftbuildup4.png

2

Here is another buildup and you can see that the formation now looks more like a flat 442. Our DMC has lots of passing options

442flow.png

As we use the left flank, our formation is now a 253. Oour AML can either go inside or play a overlap with our Wingback

442flowinto253.png

As he goes inside, the formation is now a 235, Just look at the whole in the middle where he will pace the ball into

442flowinto235.png

3
Here is an attack that IS NOT a counter attack. The build up is along the right flank and as you see, the formation is more of an 4132

forestform4132.png

SET PIECES
Have not been touched. Here, you will have to set them up to suit your players

SHOUTSDont use them. As most of the settings have been tweaked, the shouts will either have no effect or will only effect half of whats intended, meaning that the tactic will be disrupted.

GETTING MANY CARDS ?
If you see that a player with a yellow card has been playing poorly and getting out of his defensive position, then tell him to be mire careful in the 2nd half. If you see a player un the verge of getting his 2nd yellow, then dont be afraid to sub him, especially if he is " aggressive or frustrated" . As for red cards, always tell them in the team talk that you did not like it and fine him with 1 weeks pay. This is a pretty good way of stopping a floodgate scenario.

PLAYING WITH 10 MEN
Here, I sub the AML and bring one a new player/move players to play in the position of the sent off player. I also put the AMCcenter in AMCleft and push up the FBleft into the WBleft so the formation looks like the one in the screenshot below
spurs45110men.png

OPPOSITION INSTRUCTIONS
I have NOT used any at all....but..
...in the past, I have mainly used these, regardless of tactic

Single FC without AMC support – Close Down/Always
Nervous and Anxious Players – Hard Tackling, Show into weak foot

Elegant DLPlaymaker – Tight Mark, Close Down and Weaker Foot

PLAYERS

The Balanced and determined squad

You don't need quality players to use this approach. What you do need is a balanced squad.
Enough players that have the stamina to use this high press system, players with
team and work rate, some quick players, enough " tall" players so you avoid
conceding too many set pieces etc etc. All in all, a TEAM, not just a group of
players. As in all Teams, you need players that want to win, players that are up
for the challenge and can pull themselves together when the going gets tough and
players that can handle the pressure of suddenly being a favorite. If you
combine all this, then you can win the Champions League with players of a much

lesser "quality" and " rating" then Barca etc. Naturally you can still get good
results without these traits but to win the CL, its crucial

FULLBACKS
The Full Back is a key player in modern football, having to supplement his traditional defensive duties with overlapping runs down the wing to support forward play and help attack overload the final third

Although primarily a defensive player, he most prepare to get forward when the team needs extra width

With his Attack duty, the Full Back supplements his defensive responsibilities by overlapping the midfield and providing first time crosses into the area, as well as getting into the same looking for a goal scoring opportunity

View attachment 366260View attachment 366259

COVER CENTRAL DEFENDER
The main job of the Central Defender is to stop the opposing attackers from playing and clear the ball from danger when required

However, especially for more aggressive tactics, he must also possess the technique and composure to be able to help the team maintain possession and lay off simple passes to more creative players

With the defend covering) duty, this Central Defender will drop a little deeper ans sweep up through balls behind the defensive line

View attachment 366272View attachment 366271

BALL PLAYING DEFENDER
The main job or the Ball-Playing Defender is to stop the opposing attackers from playing and clear the ball from danger when required.

However, unlike standard central defenders, the Ball-Playing Defender is encouraged to launch defence splitting through balls from deep to generate counter-attacking opportunities

With a Defend (Stopper) duty, the Ball-Playing Defender will push ahead of the defensive line and close down players before they get to the area.

View attachment 366268 View attachment 366267

DMC - The Box 2 Box DMC
The non-stop of this Defensive Box-2-Box Midfielders enables him to contribute greatly both in defending and attacking

In attacks, he pushes up to support the midfield and forward, often surging late in to the box to get on to the end of crosses and pullbacks as well as proving a threat from distance.

In defense, he harries attacking midfielders and helps protect the defensive line.

View attachment 366277View attachment 366276

MC – The Deeplying Playmaker
The Deep-Lying Playmaker operates in the space between the defense and midfield and aims to initiate attacking moves via pinpoint passes to players positioned higher up in the pitch.

Although primarily a creative player, the Deep-Lying Playmaker also has to be competent in the art of defense.

In his Defend duty, the Deepl-Lying Playmaker will fulfill extra defensive responsibilities by holding position in front of the defense and will rarely look to support attacks
.

View attachment 366279 View attachment 366278

M-WINGER – The Hardworking Winger

The Wide Midfielder performs defensive and attacking duties on the flanks, supporting the forward, midfield and defense when needed.

Generally lacking either explosive pace or great crossing of an out-and-out Winger, the Wide Midfielder relies on team work, work rate to get into dangerous attacking positions without compromising his defensive responsibilities.

With a Suppor duty, the Wide Midfielder will stay deeper and play angled through balls into the box from his wide position, although he will still cross when it is on.

As he is the only wide player on this flank, he really needs to have the stamina to work up and down the flank.

View attachment 366281

AM-WINGER – The 3rd Striker
This player acts like a 3rd striker. He stays wide with the ball if the space is found down the flank. When using his free role finding space inside, he will get into the area and straight for goal. To make sure he is not pushed back too far in the field when defending, he is on tight man-marking

View attachment 366283 View attachment 366282

AMC – The False 10 2nd Striker
The Attacking Midfielder operates higher up in the pitch than a standard midfielder, so he cannot drive into space from deep in the manner of an attacking Central Midfielder

Requiring excellent techniqual and mental skills, his role is to fashion cnhances for himself and others in the final third before the opposition defenders reduce the time and space he has to make the play

With an Attack Duty, Attackaing Midfielder locks to craft for his forward alongside peing presence in the box to supplement the attack. In short, we are here looking at a False 10 acting like the 2nd striker

FC – The Complete Forward
A Complete Forward possesses all the technical attributes of a Deep Lying Forward, the goal scoring ability of a Poacher and the strength and power of a target man.

He is equally adept at playing in others, fashioning chances for himself and getting on the end of team moves. Such a player transcends instruction and should simply be allowed to do his own thing

With a Support Duty, the Complete Forward will look to drop into space, run at defense, take longshots, drive to the flanks or play balls through the defense line

If using a different kind of player, lets say an Advanced Forward, he will do well in this role to. Just remember that it’s the AMC-FC partnership that counts

TRAINING

TEAM
As it’s a mix between having creative players AND using a high energy approach, no overall team training is actually better than the other. If you have a young team that really lacks in Physic or Ball Control (the Mourinho way), then alter between these 2 until they get better at this. If they should lack in cleverness, then use tactics etc. Remember that training only makes your player’s focus that bit extra (on the cost of the rest) stats and is not something that influences anything short term.

Personally, I always go with a tactic approach that actually suits my team so therefor, I use Balanced training and combine it with individual ones
.

INDIVIDUALL TRAINING
When looking at the needed stats for the roles and you see that a player has a soft spot, then focus on that one. If the player has no real weakness that will undermine his performance in this role, then focus on letting him become a world beater in one of the more important stats. If the target man somewhat lacks in cleverness, then why not let him train the stats of a Trequartista.

Remember that the player does not learn a role but instead trains that little bit extra for those stats the game considers important for the chosen role

To learn more about training in generall, have a look here

A Guide to Training

The main Team Training screen is presented as below:

30607729.png

The immediate next three weeks are laid out day-by-day in calendar form, displaying what's planned on a weekly basis and how your match schedule falls into place around your training schedule. From here, you're able to set up exactly how you want to approach the short and medium term fixture list.

Gone are the days of devising and creating a series of schedules for players to train under. The entire focus now is on the team as a group and how they work towards each match.

Across the top of the screen are three main sections

General Training
Scheduling
Match Training

'General Training' allows you to set up a Default Focus and Intensity for how the team should work as a rule of thumb. Select one area for the team to generally work on, and determine how hard you want them to work at it.

The 'Scheduling' slider tweaks how much you want to adopt a match-by-match approach compared to an overall focus on your own team. In effect, this controls how concerned you are about matching the opposition and attempting to annul their strengths or exploit their weaknesses compared to how much you want to accentuate your own team's positives and take the initiative.

The 'Match Training' section allows you to set a specific focus area to work on in the immediate days before each match, as well as whether you want to include rest days before and after matches.

Once you've set up your general approach, you can then delve into the more intricate details of the weekly approach. If you decide that a particular upcoming fixture requires special attention, then you can choose to alter the Focus for that week and override your default 'General Training' instructions. Each Focus has its own colour code on the calendar layout, providing visual confirmation of the changes you've made.

The day before each match (or the two days before if you move the 'Scheduling' slider towards 'More Match Training') is designated to Match Preparation. This has previously resided in the Tactics section, but has now been fully integrated into the Training section. If you feel the need to deviate from your General and Weekly Focus in a bid to pay even greater attention to detail for a specific opponent, now's the time to do so.

By presenting three weeks of the schedule at a time, you're able to keep abreast of the nuances in your fixture list and how it might affect your players. A light schedule of one match per week or fewer might invite an opportunity to work on one area with a greater intensity and can provide great progress in a short period of time.

However, if you're faced with a backlog of matches with as many as three per week, you might not have the time nor the physical capability within the squad to do anything other than work on your own game and attempt to preserve the squad's fitness as best possible.

Individual Players

Whilst the focus on individual schedules has gone, you can still work on areas of individual players' games and attempt to refine their profiles. Professional players tend to train together in groups - either as a whole team or within their general positions - on a day to day basis and work to refine a particular aspect of their game outside of this time; either scheduled by the coaches or of their own volition.

The 'Individual' sub-tab presents your squad; select a player's table row to bring up his Training Report on the right hand side of the screen.

From here, you can set up a new Individual Training Focus or begin training them in a New Position and adjust their Intensity at which they work on their additional craft. Advice and updates from your coaching staff is offered on all of this, beginning with a breakdown of the percentage of their additional time being spent on each area.

The 'Individual Training Focus' aspect of development allows you to target a specific area of a player's attribute profile and focus extra work on it.

For example, you may have a talented defender who is lacking a bit in the heading department. In order to try and address this, you can select 'Heading' as an individual focus. If it's particularly weak, increasing the intensity will request that he works at it harder and for a longer period of time.

You can keep track of the effect this is having, if at all, by clicking on 'View Attribute Development'. Select a 'Training Category' from the drop-down menu to label the appropriate attributes for that area in different colours, which area also plotted on the graph at the bottom to show month-by-month progress.

Individuall Focus - A role
When chosing a role, it means that the player focus a little extra on the key stats for the role. Here, you have a player that is focusing on becoming a more suitable Ball playing Defender.

93225031.png

Coaches
The 'Coaches' tab, available from the tabs in the bottom panel, controls how your coaching staff handles training. Each coach is, by default, assigned to work in every aspect of training, unless they are of a specific type (i.e. goalkeeping or fitness), in which case they are restricted to that area only.

Each member of your backroom staff is likely to be particularly proficient in a particular aspect of training. If this is the case, it is worthwhile to assign them to this/these area(s) only. Proficiency in an aspect of training is graded on a star rating, one star being poor whilst five stars are excellent.

A higher number of stars will increase the effectiveness of the training schedules on your players. A coach with high attributes in key areas who is only assigned to coach categories he is strong in will result in a much better training schedule.

In order for your coaches to be as useful as possible to you in your training schedules, you should endeavour to find the correct attributes required for more stars in their area of training.

Strength: Coaches should have a high Fitness rating.
Aerobic: Coaches should have a high Fitness rating.
Goalkeeping: Coaches should have a high Coaching Goalkeepers rating.
Tactics: Coaches should have a high Tactical rating.
Defending: Coaches should have high ratings in Coaching Defending and Tactical.
Ball Control: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Technical and Mental.
Attacking: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Attacking and Tactical.
Shooting: Coaches should have high ratings in coaching Attacking and Technical.

Youth
Everything in this section applies to Youth Training. Your youth team players will train together, but bear in mind that as younger players who are still physically developing, intensities will behave differently and you may have to balance and fine-tune things a bit more accurately to get the best out of them. Your senior coaches may work with the youth team in addition to youth team coaches if you wish to give them the benefit of their strengths and experience, whilst youth players may be invited to train with the first team should you wish them to do so (by promoting them into a squad above the youth team).

WIGAN

Wow, just wow, absolutely incredible tactic :hail:
Just finished the season with Wigan, form from my last 18 league games was Won 11 Drew 5 Lost 2 Goals For 35 Goals Against 16
That's amazing, had i started the season with this tactic based on those results, i would easily have made Europe and may have even challenged for a CL spot.
With Wigan :P
I now have two big problems...
1. I now have to start a new save to give this tactic a full season(**** you TBH  )
2. My expectations are now so high that whoever i play as, i will be expecting to win the league by at least 20 points
You have a lot to answer for TBH :nono:
Incredible - Best tactic of FM13 so far and probably my favourite of any recent version of FM(until the next patch ruins it)

Hey TBH. formation looks great! one question: is this an exploit tactic? will i still lose some games, or will i be unbeatable? cause your nottingham season looks very impressive! thanks.

Are you being serious here or are you joking?

No, its not an exploiting " you will never loose tactic". Looking at my results, I will naturally do better than others as the tactic has been developed around my players. I have good players but nmost of all, my team is a machine of Determination, work rate, team work, decision etc

What is the training and match prep settings?

The match prep is in the FAQ but I have mostly used Defensive positioning

Training is to used train your players to get better in their best stats, getting more complete, raising smoe thatxs that undermines other stats, fitting a role etc. I am using the Standard training with all players on individual schedules as well. This is not something you can copy as its highly dependend on your players

These are the games I have played. Been very good considering most of the tactic was Awkward lol.
I was 4-0 up against Napoli then 85 / 87 / 90+2 Cavani scored 3.
Created at least 5 Half chances each game and pretty much dominated everyone.
I would give this tactic a 9/10. Brilliant

Going to stop with this tactic now and carry on with my own so I can perfect it.

Sounds really good. For those only using Key highlights, do switch to at least Extended. When looking at the chances, also notice those where that final pass/cross aaalmost reaches its target for an easy slotin.
