Internet isn't really the best place for sarcasm, but I get it now :)

lol i was kidding mate :). But anyways why do you think Oscar has poor defensive work-rate. In my opinion, he is the most defensively aware #10

I've been watching Brazil cuz I love sexy samba football, and I gotta say that Oscar in final third is great! Such vision and flair. He's fairly quick and has good upper body strength. But.. he sometimes forgets his man and just stays forward. Quite often oppositions makes a chance because no-one is expecting that player to be free. Nothing that can't be fixed.

Hazard's fellow new signing Marko Marin, meanwhile, misses out with a slight knock, while youngsters Lucas Piazon and Romelu Lukaku start on the bench.

Today's team in full:

1.Petr Cech
2.Branislav Ivanovic
3.Ashley Cole
5.Michael Essien
7.Ramires
8.Frank Lampard
9.Fernando Torres
16.Raul Meireles
17.Eden Hazard
24.Gary Cahill
26.John Terry (c)

Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, David Luiz, John Mikel Obi, Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Ferreira, Sam Hutchinson, Yossi Benayoun, Lucas Piazon.

In a nutshell, its because he is largely an attacking mid. This is a part his game he will need to improve on substansially over the next few years.

But he is not. If you notice he tends to drop deep a lot of times in games to dictate play or help out defensively. Primary reason being he is a CM pushed forward to the AM role. Neymar and Hulk are the prime culprits for not tracking back.

An offensive mid dropping deep, is an offensive mid dropping deep. He displays little of the defensive position required, which is something you can see even at AM. A good one defensively will drop into that little pocket into front of the other mids, creating that defensive triangle.

Fair enough.... My main point of contention was that Vanjagl said that Oscar lacked the defensive work-rate which simply is not true. Its fair enough to say he lacks the defensive know-how.. Not surprising since he plied his trade in Brazil until now

Yes! Oh god yes. But he was brought to be CM. You can't be CM if you are not capable of tracking back. At least not a good one.

Dictate tempo, yes. Run on wings to help wingers, yes. But sometimes he just forgets his player and then problems starts.

But he does track back. Its Neymar and Hulk who don't. He is not the one who you should be blaming for Brazil's defensive problems, a large part of that should fall on the other two players

I think what he is referring to is the lack of defensive concentration? Correct me if im wrong Vanjagl.

He strikes me as an intelligent player, who can eventually adapt this into his game though.

Otherwise thats 25m British Sterling Pounds down the drain

Who would say English could be so complicated o.O
I said he forgets his man sometimes - and I repeated it few times. But, as Mike. said, his defensive concentration is his weak spot.

Both are right, if he hasnt got the concentration to drop back and follow his man/mark the space he isnt going to be much use in a deep double pivot.

**** defensively? More like **** all round. I'm sure City cant wait.

Relax bud.. We are arguably missing out best player in Mata. Torres has just had a few minutes in his legs since he came back from holiday. We got a new manager in town with a new team being built along with a new style of play

Also Man City have been having a pretty **** Preseason as well. But stop measuring these matches in results, agreed we should have been better but these matches are more about fitness and gelling anyways
