Both are right, if he hasnt got the concentration to drop back and follow his man/mark the space he isnt going to be much use in a deep double pivot.

Which has to be sorted though... I was just pointing out that through some of his sentences, unintentionally perhaps, Vanjagl seemed to be suggesting that Oscar's defensive work-rate was not up to scratch

o.O
I said you can't be CM if you don't track back. I fail to see your point :S

Well, if you don't track players, then your defensive work rate is poor.

But he does track back as I have mentioned before several times. You said he tends to forget his man which points to a lack of defensive concentration.

It's the same thing for me. Do not forget that English is not my first language and I don't know your expressions too well.

Relax bud.. We are arguably missing out best player in Mata. Torres has just had a few minutes in his legs since he came back from holiday. We got a new manager in town with a new team being built along with a new style of play

Also Man City have been having a pretty **** Preseason as well. But stop measuring these matches in results, agreed we should have been better but these matches are more about fitness and gelling anyways

I'd say first three games are about fitness, in the last game before Community Shield we should actually look good, there will be no much of a difference between what we played now and what we will play against City/Wigan. And I'm worried. It's not even about Torres, I'm already used to seeing him like that, its the all round performance. Clueless once again in the midfield, defensively beyond ****, and below average attacking wise.

I wouldn't be too worried because there are lots of reasons for it: team sporadically joining together, new systems being played, new players trying to find their feet, players not fit from long summers.

the main issue today was that the players heads were all over the place, and the system that RDM tried out did not work. 4-3-3 is the old Chelsea, 4-2-3-1 is the future. What I will say is that Ramires should not be played as a right winger, he has no skill to get past his man and as soon as someone stands in front of him, he is stuck. we need a new RW and I want to see the ram back as a bombing central midfielder.

Hazard's performance was worrying though, he looked absolutely clueless..

No shame in conceding to Ashley Barnes.

Used to play for the mighty Argyle!

Fans need to be patient with him. Don't forget that he is a 21y/old coming to a new country where he can't speak the language to a club bigger than Lille with a huge price on his head. He will need time to adapt...Personally I feel he should do much better when he has players like Mata, Oscar and Marin with him. With Marin being injured for this friendly, the entire creative burden of our team fell on Hazard which made everyone draw parallels between this match and last season

Obviously with the amount of hype he comes with as well as the way he played the media... I can only hope he hits the ground running or Chelsea at the very least win regularly to avoid creating a media **** storm about what a flop he is

yeah I understand that, but it wasn't just that he looked overburdened - after all, it's not like anyone apart from chelsea and brighton fans would have been watching this game - he had no positional sense whatsoever. clearly he's technically incredible but it would appear he still has a lot to learn. going to be very interesting how RDM deals with having him and mata in the same team.

He looks like he has no postional sense because he is still adapting to the team.... Things will be much better as time progresses. Hazard is one of the most talented players we have had in a while

Offish day for him and the entire Brazilian Team as well. Still some excellent passing and movement.

True. Hopefully the English football will affect him in a good way. So much room for improvement, but he has some good (if not better) passing range. Can't wait for him to join us.

We are so **** defensively, its not even funny. City will destroy us.

Meireles was massively to blame for the first two goals. First goal he took a quick throw when Brana was about to come over and get it off him and he threw it into a dangerous area which led us to lose the ball and they scored from it. And the second was his poor ball back on the half way line.

**** defensively? More like **** all round. I'm sure City cant wait.

I wouldn't worry too much, we were without Mata, Marin and lets say Oscar too who are all players who can unlock doors. The performance reminded me of early last season, get to the box and have no-where to go so go out wide and players who cannot cross for ****. I lost count how many times Ramires, Torres and Ivanovic either over hit crosses, hit the first man or went straight to the keeper.

Plus, the Hulk rumour is not dead. It's still out there.

From what i know the deal is very much on the table and closer than people think. I said this last week and then Hulk come out with some comments about Chelsea and potentially playing for Chelsea a few days after which backed up my reports.

I went to the game yesterday and to sum up the day in good and bad it would be.

Good: Day out in general, singing session, stadium, seats, pint prices in the ground and just genuinly good to see Chelsea.

Bad: Performance, result, refereeing, formation (went back to 4-3-3) and reaction from a lot of fans.
