Just because he is not in Chelsea's first team at the age of 20 does not mean he wont make the grade. Drogba didnt get his first proffesional contract until he was 22! 28 is a decent age, Lampard was 28 five years ago and look what he has done in them five years. Players are beccoming fitter and stronger these days meaning they can play at the top for longer. And of corse no-one has done what Jose done but its still relavent.E

So if Barca have all that theoreticly they shoulnt even be in the red

Says??

Of corse there are no guarrentes i never said that. Im comparring him to Bertrand who never got a new deal so obviously the club prefer PVA

Producing your own players is a **** of a lot cheaper than buying them all.

You said he will :L

I never said he was guarenteed, i said he looks the most likely option to replace Cole.

Your point is exacly?? How many of Arsenals first team crop have been at the club since they are 10ish?? Same goes for Utd with the exception of the old guard i.e Scholes, Giggs, Neville etc.

Read the quote in my initial post. "He will". Saying that is saying it is definite.

On top of that:

Second point that was @Joel.

Arsenal and United aren't spending as much. Unlike Chelsea they won't have to.

See how many of their players are cheap.

My point is that they have much larger revenue, and a much less need for expenditure, so they're in a stronger FFP position.

Lets not get onto this again as you know my thoughts.

in my opinion he will take over from Cole thats all i mean.

If he is to be the successor he will need to get some game time this season.

We are in a tough postion, Cole is still playing at the top of his game and will proberly have 2-3 years left in him. But we see PVA as a replacement but know he needs games. Its a tough fortunate position to be in.

Replacing 20+ goals a season from one midfielder will be a lot harder then you think.

Looking at it narrow mindedly. He doesn't seem to create an awful lot (IMO - he may do) so, if you replaced him with someone who got 10 goals or whatever, but bucket loads of assists - I'd say you've replaced Lampard. Moutinho could easily replace him.

Agreed, although there is no doubt he is a good player, I also think he is over-rated.

26 assists over the past 3 seasons (including this one just gone) IIRC. Whether that's good or average is up for debate of course.

I think the problem isn't replacing someone of Lampard's ability (Hamsik, for example, would be just as good) but replacing the symbolic nature of Lampard himself.

Well I honestly don't look at assists too much but I believe lampard got the most in the 2009/10 season in the league

And you would be correct, Lampard got 17 assists which is 2 more than Fabregas.

So these statistics render my opinion useless?

As an attacking midfielder, I'd go with average.

By calling him over-rated, I'm not calling him **** (aimed at Chelsea fans) - I just don't think he's one of the best midfielders around (much like I don't think Gerrard is) - he's not up there with Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane etc etc. Never the less, he's a good player, but as GC says, you could replace him with Hamsik/Moutinho etc. in ability wise however, replacing what he means to the club, is almost impossible - as impossible as replacing Gerrard & Carragher for what they symbolise.
