Convicts Continue Dominance

The 4th and now final match of the 1st Ashes test was played overnight. Given the match was effectively a dead rubber it was played in good spirits even if both Disclaimer89 and Yeti01 were keen to get a W on the board.

The match stated off in relatively cagey fashion, like two fencers facing off, the early stages involved many parries and ripostes. It would be the Aussies though who drew first blood with Luka Modric breaking the deadlock after being played onside Kompany.

This forced the English Manager Disclaimer89 to become more adventurous with his play and the move paid dividends moments later when a missed header by Baines was pounced upon by Arturo Vidal and he rifled home from close range to level the scores.

Things wouldn't stay even for long though as a Messi free kick found Jerome Boateng flashing in at the front post and he guided his header past Courtois to give the lead back to the Convicts.

As the managers began preparing their half time team talks both were required to tear up anything written as the Aussies put two quick goals on the board through Robben and Messi to give the Aussies a commanding 4-1 lead at the break.

As the game wore on tactical changes were made on both sides as one team searched for a way back into the game and the other set up deeper and deeper, only threatening on the counter. It was the Aussies though who scored again, Paul Pogba's industry was on show all game and he thoroughly deserved his goal that came off the back of a flowing length of the field counter attacked that started with England's Iniesta being dispossessed in the Australian 18 yard box.

As time wound down the English began to become more and more dominant as they searched for a way back into the game. James Rodriguez gave them a lifeline with less than 10 to go but it was unfortunately too late for the Poms to really mount a comeback. The Aussies saw out a 5-2 win to finish up the 1st test.

I would like to thank Matt for the game. Given it was a dead rubber we took it pretty casually and the game was played in a great spirit - so casual in fact that I forgot to take any screenshots or save the match, I apologize.

I think I was, in a lot of ways, lucky to get the first goal as it made Matt deviate from his original plan. If he had got it then I feel the game would have been much different. On to the next test now and to different matchups. It will be interesting to see if different styles perform better or worse against different opponents this time!!

Cheers mate, I think the score flattered me a little. - Matt and I compared systems at the end and we both started on counter mentality. As we scored first he had to push on more which seemed to play into my hand more and more as the game wore on. If he scores first I think you can flip the script. Should be good to see how the matchups fall in the 2nd test.

I'm looking forward to seeing who i'm facing, i'm reasonably optimistic of getting something from the next game if i'm a little smarter with game management.

Was a great match, I enjoyed it.

Now onto the next round of fixtures so I can put a 'W' on the board :P

I'll be in attendance!

On scouting duties of course, expect box seats.

I'd go for the ringside seats as the Aussies are about to receive a beating ;)

I wish I got to participate but I hope that this Australian team can bring success to our eagerly watching football population........................................ ;)
