Season 2014/15
Just finished the third season and gotta say that I'm quite happy with the season. We found our form in the last quarter of the season, gathering 33 points from our last 12 matches (losing only to Emile Heskey's York lol). If only the season went on for only a bit longer... whatever. We finished 8th and I'm happy with that. We were somewhat lucky that the final and decisive matches of the FA Trophy fell into our good form at the end of the season. Still I didn't expect to beat Grimsby 3-0 away, as they totally dominated the league. Well, end of the story is we won our first piece of silverware in front of 20.000 people in Wembley as we defeated Braintree 2-1 in a match we should've been winning like 8-1. 10 points, *******!
Of course all of this was down to some key players once again. While we really missed the strikeforce of Ryan Doble, our pair of Tom Bradshaw and Allen Russell did quite a good job, but tbh, our run started with the loan of Robert Ogleby from Wrexham and the signing of Nigerian striker Sanmi Olebusi. Our best player this season was Northen Irish youth international Ben McKenna, who simply had an awesome season. He spent the first two seasons on the right wing but switched to AMC due to our system change - seems like that was a decent idea. Of our 69 league goals he scored 7 while assisting a whopping 29 times. 11x PoM and an average rating of 7.55 are pretty **** awesome as well. Hopefully we can hold onto him.
Well, of course there have also been negatives. One of the main negatives is the free transfer of Matthew Gledhill to SPL side Dundee. He spent 3 years in our goal and didn't really make a single huge mistake (probably because I play in 2D...). I couldn't afford his wage demands and trying to keep up with an SPL side is rather pointless playing in the BSP. On the other hand things are looking pretty good for the next season. A few key players such as Ben McKenna don't wanna sign new contracts yet, but as no one is interested in them so far they'll most likely remain here on a non-contract until they are interested. Aside from having Odelusi next season we've captured a striking partner for him. You might recognize him, Colwyn Bay certainly does. Welcome back RYAN DOBLE!
With him and Odelusi up front + a decent Trequartista behind them (not too sure if McKenna will stay) our offense is looking lethal enough to try and win the league next season, if we keep our form of the end of this season this really should be possible. Transfer targets will be a new goalie, some quality on our WB positions and some more depth in CM and CB positions. Doesn't sound impossible to me tbh unless the board decides to do sth stupid again. Financially it's been a good year thanks to our success in the Trophy, but that was really necessary as we had to play the majority of our games at Tranmere's Prenton Park and thus had to suffer from really low income during our "home games" (200 people against Braintree was our "highlight"). Looking forward to next season.
Not exactly a Spender, but we're getting closer.
