Al-Urooba (UAE) have offered me the job. And guess what? I took it. We have no money to work with. The idea of going to this club is very simple, contribute to the grassroots development of football in the UAE. It is a small club, not a club like Shabab Al-Ahli or Al Ain or Al Jazira. This is a big test of my credentials as a manager. My hope is that we can develop the club incrementally. And stay in the national team job. It is a perceived step down from Besiktas. But my aim and focus is to do something for UAE football. I want to take this job one day at a time and then see how the club performs and the national team performs in relation to it. It is a club in the lower division of UAE football. Like I said, I want to improve the club incrementally.
So I have recalled Faisal Al-Matroushi to the squad. Omar Abdulrahman our crucial player is injured. Hamdan Al-Kamali, the experienced centre back has been dropped. 19 year old striker Hazza Subait could possibly get his first cap.
Saif Abdurazzaq is injured for a week which means we need to get in a replacement for the friendly against Slovakia. Majid Ibrahim Surour is back in the UAE side as his replacement.
The Wigan job is available again. Steve Evans got sacked. The club is 13th in League One. I just had to apply, to see the possibility of coming back. My experience at Wigan was very good. I had to leave obviously due to financial constraints. But the chance of going back to the club that built me up as a manager is very appealing. I would not consider any other club for the time being. It has become a job with very high turnover. Apparently the club is also in the process of a board takeover. So let's see.
Well, this doesn't reflect too well on me. Record low world rankings. 76th in the world. We moved down from 74th to 76th. In my defense I have got a 40% win rate with the UAE which is better than the previous manager Bert van Marwijk.
