Yep. Exactly what I was saying before the season. A super dangerous cup team, but they still lack title challenging consistency. At least for now. This is the kind of game they have to win.

Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Mane (perhaps) etc all have the capability to be absolutely fantastic. In spells they can dominate nearly anyone in world football, it just doesn't happen nearly enough.

Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Mane (perhaps) etc all have the capability to be absolutely fantastic. In spells they can dominate nearly anyone in world football, it just doesn't happen nearly enough.

Yer know, I'm looking around social media at both the fume of L'pool fans, and the mocking of in particular Utd and Everton fans, and I'm still not feeling it. Frustrated- Undoubtedly. L'pool didn't have the answers they should against far inferior opposition yet again. Bemused- Most assuredly. Still hard to fathom how you can lose a game of football after dominating to such an extent. But I'm still not ****** or feeling the fume raging right now. I get it. The arl 'Here we go again. Same **** different season' thing. And I'd normally be real down after a loss like that and on the warpath too. But this wasn't Watford or Newcastle or Palace from last season. This didn't have that feel at all to me outside the ultimate frustration at losing. Those games we had no idea and were never in them. Today, we completely dominated but made poor final decisions. And that's not to excuse the players. None of them come out with any glowing colours. But it's all fixable things. Mane was a big loss with the difference making he gives that we don't have in anyone else. But the attacking third decisions should of been much better. Hard to legislate for the mistakes on both Burnley's goals. But that's the last 5 shots on Mingolet's goal that have gone past him. That HAS to play on defenders minds when you know you have to be perfect to keep opponents TOTALLY away from your goal or else there's the very serious threat of a goal every time with him behind you.

I would criticise the manger on a few things. Why are we playing Daniel Sturridge wide and deep, with Firmino ahead of him? In theory it's clever. (When Firmino is making forward runs which he wasn't today.). But when Origi comes on, UP FRONT, and Firmino drops back wide, you have to question why one and not the other when if anything the reverse for both would work better. And talking of Origi, not that he got started when he did come on, but why leave it until 65 to change when we just didn't have the final third answer? And there needed to be more pace to our game. That's when we're at our best. When it's flowing and instinctive.

But again, with better decision making, 9 times out of 10 we win a game like that we dominate to such an extent. And that is a lot less of a problem then we had after a loss like this last season.

I don't know. A very frustrating afternoon, but not feeling the fume going around. Shrugs. But we can't afford many more like that. Starting next week at Tottenham.

Congratulations Burnley. You could say you mugged us as you scored, parked the bus, broke, and got back on that bus. But you were clinical and kept to your game plan. We weren't and only half did ours. That's football. This ones past.

I need to catch the game and I will get round to it but just busy in the kitchen tonight creating food for my new business, but I have a theory and would guess it begins from Burnley sitting so deep thus making the pitch bigger, exposes some of your weaknesses more, I may be wrong but will try and catch the game and see

I'm not the biggest fan of Clyne but that weak pass was near suicidal, he has to do better for me. What really stood out for me was the midfield and how easy it was for Burnley to break forward, Hendo at times was left all on his own by Lallana and Wiji. One of them has to make way for Can to help ease the workload of Hendo. Sturridge for me does not look fully fit and the less said about Mingo positioning and footwork for the goals the better. A disappointing loss against a side we should be beating if we want to make Top 4 or beyond.

Wouldn't disagree with any of that per se. As mentioned previous, not one player covered themselves in any credit. But it's subtle differences as much as anything to me. Take the game last night for instance. Southampton's players are as clinical as Burnley today, Utd are suddenly in a heap of trouble. They're struggling to create much of anything, but they get one decent cross in the box and Ibrahimovic produces that and makes HT much easier. Now individually we didn't play anywhere near as well as they did at times second half last night, but it was just an off day with some boneheaded decisions the final third.

All fixable and with the players to return, it's not nearly as big a concern as this type of game would of been last year to me. But it can't become a habit.

That said, I get anyone going nuts as it's far from the first time. Just didn't feel like last season's woes to me and I'm surprisingly, to myself anyways, not feeling the fume a lot of reds are.

If it helps we didn't play narrow per se and we didn't fail to get wide. We just did completely the wrong things when we did. Neither FB pushed on wide so invariably came back inside. Or players weren't forward for the few decent balls we did put in. When we're inside, we picked out the wrong ball time and again or Phil resorted back to getting frustrated and shooting wildly from distance.

All things we weren't doing pre-season. Just needs more work.

You had a good start winning against Arsenal, but like I said with my earlier post, losing in this game undoes all that now. In this league you have to put away the smaller teams, today you didn't and this is one of your main problems over last few seasons as to why you don't make top 4.

Not related to today, just the last part in general ..... There won't be many if any go to Burnley and roll them over. By the same token they might not win a great deal at home. But it'll be tight 1-0's. Said it before the game, if we were to win as expected we'd have to work our behinds off and earn it. They only conceded 19 at home the last time they were up and they are ostensibly the same side who are real we'll organised and work as hard as anyone.

Don't mistake that for Burnley staying up or being a good group of players. But nobody is getting an easy ride off them this year.

Just seen the MotD highlights it wasn't what I thought it was going by them highlights, very poor decision making was your achilles today but great defending by Burnley it has to be said.

how I thought they may have beat you was an evolution of the Colombia tactics when they kept playing Yepes at centre half even though he couldn't run.

Yup even Jesus Christ himself said after the game that they need a different approach against teams who sit deep and do that.

To be fair to Coutinho, we looked more likely to score from an ambitious longe ranger than anything. Haha!

You just lack the quality and depth in some part of the squad to be consistent, week in week out in the league. As Mike put it you are going to be more competitive in the cups realistically. But having said all that, you should be beating the likes of Burnley regardless.

I know Scouse has mentioned it, but he is the only one i've seen... Personally a title run-in is ridiculous and is part of the over-expectation that has hurt the club the last 10 or so years.

I am expecting a top 4 push but other sides have strengthened better than us, in my opinion. The one positive is that with no Europe we can focus on the league fully.
