The Liverpool Thread

He’s talanted for sure. But he’s gone missing a few big matches last season in key moments domestic and in Europe.

Really didn’t make any sense for us and I never believed we were truly after him since the summer. He’s a left winger/makeshift forward. Can totally see why you guys have gone for him especially with Jota and Diaz out. Who are both better than him btw. Good squad option.

Ta. Again, I know absolutely jack about him having sacked off the WC so it's all a novelty to me and all views are greatly welcome.

Heck of a way to rebuild the attack though over the last few years with Darwin, Diaz, Jota and now this lad all 26 or under. Throw in the ridiculous talent/ prospect of Ben Doak at just turned 17, and lest we forget Kaide Gordon at just turned 19 is he now? With Mo tied down and Bobby set to be extended on lesser terms still doing a sound job.

Surprised me as the one I keep hearing we're close to is the Ecuadorian at Brighton. Which with Jude already boxed for next summer (Lets not pretend he isn't) , would be a major re-jigging of all that's left for Klopp's next great side. The middle of the park.

FSG OUT! and all that.

Made me chuckle that ta.

So, having literally seen nothing of this lad ever, what's he like? I presume you lads have given all the talk was to Utd. He reads great coming home but there endeth my knowledge.
Apparently it was between him and Antony and ten Hag chose Antony. Don't know much outside the World cup where he looked alright. For that price you can't really go wrong.

Anything that has Utd fuming at us is always worth a chuckle.

Quick glance at forums show that the same people who said Gakpo isn't what United need now melt because United didn't sign him. Truly can't never win with some of them.

Oh they will be soon. I am both terrified and looking forward to see who'll buy the two of the biggest.

Really don’t think they’re selling and its been all about additional investment all along.

And come to that, I don’t think your clowns are going anywhere either given the ridiculous valuation they’ve put on the club that nobody’s paying.

Okie dokey. LOT to get through.

Yesterday’s/ Today’s Admin-

Title Countdown:
7 wins down/ 23 to go.
25 points down/ 69 to go. (Adjusted from the season’s target of 95.).

Current Unbeaten League Run-
P 3 W 3 D F 8 A 3

First time in the league this year we’ve put three straight wins together to continue the excellent form from before the break. And after a really good, positive showing at City that we win on most any other day, it was good to continue that at Villa. Strange game. Outstandingly sublime first half we totally dominated. Yet Villa had decent chances. Flat first 20 of the second where they got back into it. Then we stepped up, fought hard, and boxed off a great return to start the final 2/3rd run in this super strange PL season.

Some massive positives again on the pitch-

Darwin Nunez will be a better acquisition than the Nordic Freak Haaland.!

Feel free to skit me now over that. But I’ll lay good money nobody will be over the long haul ….. The lad has EVERY trait you could wish for in a top, modern day striker who will be unplayable the more he gets better coaching. His movement is ridiculous already with great range pulling all over the park. Olympian rapid pace. Two footed. Built like an Ox. Strong the air. Can hold it up. Works his backside off. Yeah, his finishing is currently Sunday League level. (I think he’s currently over compensating there. Initially, he was like Cisse. Head down and web it as hard as he could. Often straight at the goalie. They’re trying to get him to be cuter and go across the goalie but he’s over thinking that and putting too much in it. That will come.). But the traits are there in abundance and once he puts it all together he’ll be unplayable. You don’t by Darwin Nunez for the here and now. You buy him for what he’ll develop into over the next decade and more. He’s a constant menace now that opposition defences are struggling to contain. Could have had two hatty’s his first two games back. Sublime brilliance in Bajetics goal. But we’ll have to ride through the frustration of how technically raw he was coming out of Portugal. All the while knowing his ceiling is limitless.

Haaland’s World class at what he does. But he’s a bulldozer who’ll be at Madrid in a few years. This lad will be a complete, all around #9 we are fixing to have for the next decade and more. And the understanding he has with Mo already leaves you licking your lips in anticipation there.

I thought Oxo-Chambo was great again until his legs naturally went. Real bonus there if he can keep healthy.

Talking of, unlike at City, Naby Lad looked interested again and put in a solid cameo. Flying into tattles and settling things down late.

Trent and AndyRobbo back to somewhat like their best. Their part in the sensational opening goal was a thing of beauty.

And a massive shout out to the kids. Bajetic looking more and more the part. Capped with a first goal in only his 2nd PL game.

And Ben Doak, involved, on merit, for the 4th straight game in a match day squad, making his PL bow and showing again glimpses of his enormous potential. Allying any fears he isn’t up to the physical challenge of the mens game. Theres certain youngsters ….. McManaman/ Fowler/ Owen/ Beckham/ Scholes, that you just know are super special players from the get go who will have a stellar career at the very top. And this lad has those vibes all over him.

And a shout out to us for what was superb vocal on a night that got real cold real quick. After the nonsense of an over officious bleep at the away ticket window making life hard getting duplicates not received in the post, it was a really fun Boxing Day evening once inside. The backing for Nunez growing louder and louder after every miss was especially pleasing. The Gerrard songs topped it off after all our Chrimbo ditties. Was proper mad having a good few minutes solid of ’L’pool, take the P …..’like when Villa were dominating the ball for that period haha.

And then you get in to see our dastardly owners have spent yet again on the attack. Something many will (falsely) scream they don’t whilst similarly misleadingly screaming we have no succession plan.

The second part of this mad season is fixing to be a real special one.

Up the charging Reds! FTT!!!!!

Technically Gakpo is a left winger and Liverpool currently have no fit left wingers atm

More worryingly for you mate, however they now spin it, it just continues to show how utterly inept Utd are at transfers.

Big Ed goes, and literally nothing changes with Arnold and Murtogh or whoever keeps bungling these up. I don't have a clue as to how good or not or Gakpo is. I'm confident as we have a ridiculous success rate in the market. And I love the fact that yet again, we work in silence and swoop in and take a player from under a rivals nose. Where as with Utd, it's the complete opposite. Literally everyone reliable and close to Utd has been saying since the summer that he was a major want for ten Hag. The complete opposite to Anthony (who, lest we forget, they F up royally down to the asinine de Jong chase and ended up massively over paying for a player only Utd were in for) on the other flank. And that's only intensified since the Ronaldo interview. Who's being vindicated again on just what a sham it continues to be behind the scenes.

What makes this even worse was reading last night he shares the same agent as ten Hag! I mean there's no contest as soon as we come in as Utd can't contest a transfer these days against any major club. But the Ronaldo bollocks was before the WC. The manager badly wanted this lad. The fee is buttons. And they manage to F up another one to leave you with F nows who in January and the chances of top 4 looking slimmer and slimmer.

I get anyone maybe thinking he wasn't what Utd needed. But the manager patently wanted him badly from every reliable source, however they may now spin that to the contrary, and yet again they've failed to back him. Outside of a sale, which is never happening whilst the Glazers are putting a mad valuation on the club, on top of all the money any prospective new owner would have to shell out on the debt, infrastructure, and still a really average squad, I just don't see how anything ever changes? And now you finally have a proper coach in place he's liable to go to waste through the continued farce above him too.

It's funny as your major rival to do ten Hag over twice for forwards. But it sure as heck wouldn't be were I on the other side of that coin and Utds continued ineptness in the market at the highest level.

Good lad. We where very close to him in summer but ultimately turned us down to take some time, get good season with good WC for better deal. Wont hold it on him, he kept clear head and looked out for himselfe. Not that we would have been that bad squad to join :D

But what is that price. Crazy good considering his output in G and A in league and performance in WC and that Antony went for crazy cash.

I feel that Gakpo is much better suited to PL than Antony. He has the physic, speed, mindset to take the challenge on. Guy will be menace on the wing with his pace, skill and 1.89cm height. I would say it might be better to play Diaz, Gakpo, Salah front. As Gakpo knows how to play nr10, he can be mould a bit more into Firmino like that drops deeper and lets wingers have their space.
But with this buy we can probably see Firmino going out? Getting a bit crowded in the front if Jota and Diaz comes back.

No wonder our tier 1 writer Phil has co-article for you :D

Not following the Lpool situation as closely as the United one, but there isn't much profit in United anymore that Glazers could leech. They want one big, final check.

Leach is the word mate for them. Even now with it being widely reported they're looking for anywhere between 4 and 7 billion ..... As if they haven't creamed enough off Utd. You just can't see anyone paying that for a football club in this climate when you're not getting any sort of return off it like the outlay. And given the mess they'd be leaving behind to fix, any new owner would need to find a heck of a lot more than that.

Martin Edwards has a LOT to answer for 17 years back for putting the club in a **** show of a situation with those parasites I just don't see where it gets out of.

Speaking of. If United wanted him, they would get him. Now that doesn't say much about the quality of the scouting department as much as Uniteds free form, careless spending.

That will be nothing compared to how they'll probably start spinning it this morning with all the reliable Utd journo's changing their views. But there's a lot to be said for backing a new manager and they've all consistently said ten Hag wanted him and Anthony on the flanks.

Ta. Appreciated. I shall make a brew and sit down and read that.

Bobby will probably be happily extended on a lesser contract. They've been talking but that's not a big issue as Bobby's that laid back and loves life here that much it won't be a big negotiation.

Still contributing and still invaluable in the changies so with the CL expanding next year and even more games, along with the younger players still developing, I'd be sound with Bobby staying around in the squad for another few years.

I've yet read from reliable United journo about United being serious about Gakpo after the Summer. Again, I'm not the norm for that stuff, I try to stay away.

Anyway, think he's a good signing for Liverpool right now, and when everyone gets fit and running, he can end up as a good backup or even sell him for profit.

Gapko has never been a main target since Antony was signed in the summer. It was either one or the other. Not both. All the drivel in the press about ETH wanted to turn him into a STR is complete horse. That’s not how ETH works he always signs specialised players to play in the role. And he’s not even an ETH type STR. Instead of listening to the drivel ( guilty of this myself a lot in the past! ) listen to ETH ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE RIGHT PLAYER.

He’s a good signing for Liverpool in a position of need at a fair price.

I'll be honest.
I've no idea who Cody Gackpo is and I've never seen him kick a ball.

Outside of what I’ve read, you and me too mate haha. But they’ve more than earned the trust in the market to believe he’ll be perfect for us and I’m liking what others are saying here.

@Vanjagl

Whitwell among others mate was just saying again yesterday how he’s remained a constant manager want. I was doing a lot of bedtime reading last night haha.

Well if Whitwall was/is to be believed there were over 500+ RB scouted and under discussion before landing on AWB 😂

Yeah, that is Laurie stating his own opinion. It's a lot different when United briefs him about something, both him and Ornstein.
