Dreadful game of football that was a really tough watch. A game when you are just totally off it. (And man did
BOTH teams stink the joint out in a game neither side deserved to win.). So you dig in and just find a way to get the three points and get the heck out of there.
But yanno’, I kind of like games like that just for the reaction of todays generation of fan who have been utterly spoilt under Jurgen and don’t appreciate that games like that are what ‘real’ football is a lot of the time. Always has been. Always will be. And (not that I’m suggesting we will this season), those are the games that win you leagues. Over the passing of time theres a real romanticised notion of our 70’s/ 80’s dominance that we would roll teams over easily and Anfield was always rocking. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yeah, if you let us play, we’d destroy you. But many teams naturally didn’t, or we weren’t fully on it for whatever reason, and games like last night happened a lot. The amount of dour, 1-0’s/ 2-0’s/ 2/3-1’s, when we had to come back or when the game was in the balance until a late goal, with a real slugfest of a dog **** game before that point, was way more than people would like to remember. Often played out before a real quiet crowd as constant success weirdly turns you kind of arrogant where you sit back and expect them to entertain you to get you going rather than the other way around.
So, basically, last night, albeit an ESPECIALLY turgid watch, is football reality for many teams. Not least over the Holiday period when games come thick and fast. The best trams just find a way to secure all the points which they did for a fourth successive league game to keep the momentum of the surge up the table going.
The only real standouts for me on the park were Thiago second half. Although he was abysmal the first. And Trent and Darwin.
For a man who falsely, and laughably, gets constantly mocked that he can’t defend, Trent sure did have Barnes anonymous all game. Wasn’t the best the other end and his passing was as madly off as a everyone else. But defensively he was disciplined and excellent.
And Darwin is just a complete menace and one of the worst strikers any opposition defence must face with his constant movement and olympian pace. Yeah, his finishing is still Sunday League level currently. Although lest we forget the winner comes from him hitting the post. (Just what the **** was the Leicester lad thinking in that oggie by the way? Divvy.
.). But everything else is an absolute joy to watch. The run and sublime ball to Mo second half
….. Deserved a goal that. Sky are creaming themselves if KDB does that. Instead, as its Darwin, they’d rather make compilations of his misses which is utterly mental and never before seen for a footballer from a major broadcaster.
NO agenda there at all!
Boss to see Nabby and Ox still rocking and rolling despite many’s mad hope they’d be injured by now just to say ‘
TOLD YOU SO!’
And that’s another game Doak, Clark and Bajetic are part of the match day squad. Flourishing at all levels.
Job done. Another 3 points secured. A game quickly forgotten.
On to Brentford and what fast became the best away in the league last season with their boss, friendly as fans. (The complete opposite of the Tory Brexit meffs from Leicester who yet again thought it funny to sing about food poverty and social deprivation amongst other oh so funny ditties. Enjoy lower end nothingness you classless **** bags.). Superb little stadium. And wonderful area of West London they are situated in with so many great bars and restaurants around wherever you go. Proper community football club which is a pleasure to visit. LONG may they stay up in the PL. An absolute credit to the product.
A game as exciting as last season with us scoring one more than them would be the perfect start to 2023.
Longer than I thought. Note to self- Must work on that next year haha.
Happy NY everyone. The Reds are on the rise again!
Up the ‘Pool. Mighty Reds.
FTT!!!!!
