The Liverpool Thread

Gapko has never been a main target since Antony was signed in the summer. It was either one or the other. Not both. All the drivel in the press about ETH wanted to turn him into a STR is complete horse. That’s not how ETH works he always signs specialised players to play in the role. And he’s not even an ETH type STR. Instead of listening to the drivel ( guilty of this myself a lot in the past! ) listen to ETH ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE RIGHT PLAYER.

He’s a good signing for Liverpool in a position of need at a fair price.

Is that in the same way Darwin wasn’t his top want when he arrived mate and Utd not offering him way more in salary, by his own admission? And Benfica more in the fee?

Asking for a friend.

Buying the clubs spin when they F up in the market constantly is what they are banking you’ll do mate. It’s the Glazer way.

*Side note* Thats another major issue you lads have. The ridiculous salaries you throw right out the gate.

We wanted Sancho badly for one and would have matched the fee. But as soon as Utd went in with that ….. And here you are with him. When you put a kid on that money from the get-go, theres nowhere you can go from there.

The club likely did mess up with Darwin not really a shock with how we are run. Personally on that I’ve always been consistent he wouldn’t cut it at the levels he was putting out in Portuguese league and watched a lot of holes in his game. Could prove me wrong!

And I’m not buying anything. It’s just never made any sense whatsoever he’s not a RW which we need a back up for Antony. He’s not a STR of which we are in desperate dire need. He’s a right footed LW in which we have Rashford, Sancho, Martial, Elanga, Garnacho. It’s never made any sense and even way less sense since Garnacho break out.

Honestly Scouse, I wouldn't trust any of them. They all have PR machinery behind them that is well oiled. As long as the journos are briefed by the club, they are in the PR circle.

If anything the Gapko story stunk of trying to keep the fans quite while there were rumblings of no incomings in January.

That's true enough in general. Stone, Whitwell, Ornstein, the lot of them will all now change tact on how the club spin things. (Although there's been that much noise on ETH being enamoured with him for the past 6/7 months now it's hard to believe he wasn't the main January want. Or that a deal was in the works. <That should have been a simple box with the same agents and his open want to be open to the PL>. Again, F knows where you turn now? Depay? That would be a disaster. CL players are off the board in January when you're even weaker up to try get back in that competition by simple numbers with Ronaldo gone.).

The likes of Romano are even worse and total blagges 99% of the timer. Earlier yesterday he had Gakpo as a done deal to Utd. Then as soon as Joyce, who never runs anything that isn't cast iron, broke it, Romano flipped full circle.

For a club with a desperate need to get back into the CL, that looks a serious position of need for me mate looking at the competition for those CL places from rivals.

Only Rashford and the potential of Garnacho that stands out. Who's still an inexperienced kid. Sancho has fallen off a cliff and is currently one of the worst busts in recent memory. F knows what's happened there although the salary was to Utd's detriment. Too much too soon with nowhere to go from it. Martial is rarely fit. Or motivated when he is. Can't rely on him. And Elanga looks nowhere near ready for a club like Utd. With little up front or on the right now Ronaldo and Cavani have left.

Light weight across the front three is being polite. With options now thin on the ground in January.

Maybe they throw silly money at Felix and try usurp Arsenal there given Atleti's serious financial mess? I just don't see who else they could realistically bring in that's needed for the second part of the season push?

*Edit* Greenwood has just muddled the situation further. Utd couldn't legislate for what he did.

Outside of what I’ve read, you and me too mate haha. But they’ve more than earned the trust in the market to believe he’ll be perfect for us and I’m liking what others are saying here.

@Vanjagl

Whitwell among others mate was just saying again yesterday how he’s remained a constant manager want. I was doing a lot of bedtime reading last night haha.

Cheers man.
Good luck with the new signing. (y)

And that's only intensified since the Ronaldo interview. Who's being vindicated again on just what a sham it continues to be behind the scenes.
Mate, you word it like Ronaldo dropped a bombshell when in reality, he just parroted talking points made for years by fans, pundits, journalists, ex united players in order to get his contract terminated. He didn’t make a statement because he loves the club so less of that vindication nonsense.

The glazer’s ineptitude in the transfer market is no secret for over a decade now (probably even goes further back than that). They’ve had fergie paper over those cracks all those years prior to his retirement.

Regarding Gakpo, I even stated he wasn’t the CF we were looking in the United thread for even tho he could do a job there but if Ten Hag wanted him badly then we’d do our best to support him. From rumors, personal terms were agreed however, for some reason, we wanted him for less than what you lot got him for. PSV got tired of the games and took your offer as it matched their valuation. Why not pay up that amount since we overpaid for the likes of Antony? People underestimate how torrid our current financial situation is. We just had our deal with our shirt sponsorship terminated and we have only £24 million in cash reserves at the bank. This is compared to £400 million in 2018. It maybe unsettling for united fans but I’m fairly certain the glazers won’t buy anyone this Jan barring some Odion Ighalo-esque deal.

As for the 7bn evaluation, the glazers aren’t getting anything close to that and they don’t have a strong hand on this as well considering they’ve milked us dry and have no other viable source of funding (they haven’t spent a penny out of pocket and won’t start now). In the midst of all this chaos, I take solace in the fact that the glazers will be gone soon

Out new 8/10/LW/RW2nd Striker ….. Versatility. Jurgen’s favourite trait in a player.

Merry Chrimbo Reds!

So, that's Diaz from under Tottenham's nose. Who were offering far more in salary.

Darwin from under Utd's. Who, again, were offering far more in both salary and money to Benfica for ten Hag's top transfer want of the summer.

And now Gakpo, again, from under Utd's nose for another forward their manager wanted badly.

And yet STILL you will read read the SM dicks trying vainly, and falsely, to push the narrative that we have no ambition and can't compete with our rivals in the transfer market. 🤦‍♂️

Keeping Jude quiet aside, we work in silence like any superbly run, top football club does in the market. And do it as well, if not better, than most anyone else. 😎

Next for a quality midfield reinforcement next month.

FSG OUT! and all that.

Liverpool signing of the season

Well this should be short…..

Today’s/ Yesterdays Admin-

Title Countdown:
8 wins down/ 22 to go.
28 points down/ 65 to go. (Adjusted from the season’s target of 95.).

Current Unbeaten League Run-
P 4 W 4 F10 A 4

Dreadful game of football that was a really tough watch. A game when you are just totally off it. (And man did BOTH teams stink the joint out in a game neither side deserved to win.). So you dig in and just find a way to get the three points and get the heck out of there.

But yanno’, I kind of like games like that just for the reaction of todays generation of fan who have been utterly spoilt under Jurgen and don’t appreciate that games like that are what ‘real’ football is a lot of the time. Always has been. Always will be. And (not that I’m suggesting we will this season), those are the games that win you leagues. Over the passing of time theres a real romanticised notion of our 70’s/ 80’s dominance that we would roll teams over easily and Anfield was always rocking. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yeah, if you let us play, we’d destroy you. But many teams naturally didn’t, or we weren’t fully on it for whatever reason, and games like last night happened a lot. The amount of dour, 1-0’s/ 2-0’s/ 2/3-1’s, when we had to come back or when the game was in the balance until a late goal, with a real slugfest of a dog **** game before that point, was way more than people would like to remember. Often played out before a real quiet crowd as constant success weirdly turns you kind of arrogant where you sit back and expect them to entertain you to get you going rather than the other way around.

So, basically, last night, albeit an ESPECIALLY turgid watch, is football reality for many teams. Not least over the Holiday period when games come thick and fast. The best trams just find a way to secure all the points which they did for a fourth successive league game to keep the momentum of the surge up the table going.

The only real standouts for me on the park were Thiago second half. Although he was abysmal the first. And Trent and Darwin.

For a man who falsely, and laughably, gets constantly mocked that he can’t defend, Trent sure did have Barnes anonymous all game. Wasn’t the best the other end and his passing was as madly off as a everyone else. But defensively he was disciplined and excellent.

And Darwin is just a complete menace and one of the worst strikers any opposition defence must face with his constant movement and olympian pace. Yeah, his finishing is still Sunday League level currently. Although lest we forget the winner comes from him hitting the post. (Just what the **** was the Leicester lad thinking in that oggie by the way? Divvy. 🤣🤣.). But everything else is an absolute joy to watch. The run and sublime ball to Mo second half 😍😍😍 ….. Deserved a goal that. Sky are creaming themselves if KDB does that. Instead, as its Darwin, they’d rather make compilations of his misses which is utterly mental and never before seen for a footballer from a major broadcaster. NO agenda there at all! 🤦‍♂️

Boss to see Nabby and Ox still rocking and rolling despite many’s mad hope they’d be injured by now just to say ‘TOLD YOU SO!’ 🙄

And that’s another game Doak, Clark and Bajetic are part of the match day squad. Flourishing at all levels.

Job done. Another 3 points secured. A game quickly forgotten.

On to Brentford and what fast became the best away in the league last season with their boss, friendly as fans. (The complete opposite of the Tory Brexit meffs from Leicester who yet again thought it funny to sing about food poverty and social deprivation amongst other oh so funny ditties. Enjoy lower end nothingness you classless **** bags.). Superb little stadium. And wonderful area of West London they are situated in with so many great bars and restaurants around wherever you go. Proper community football club which is a pleasure to visit. LONG may they stay up in the PL. An absolute credit to the product.

A game as exciting as last season with us scoring one more than them would be the perfect start to 2023. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Longer than I thought. Note to self- Must work on that next year haha.

Happy NY everyone. The Reds are on the rise again!

Up the ‘Pool. Mighty Reds. FTT!!!!!

Never saw that one coming. Get in the Ev! 🕺🕺🕺

For all the very weird complaints about last nights win, it’s gained us 2 points back on City. Back to a very manageable 3 games behind them.

Very happy New Year indeed.

Think the comments raised a year ago about Pep having to much influence as a no.2 and the pointers about the evolution of the side being down to him. Think they may be onto something. What I will say is the replacement of someone like Firmino is harder than expected as the counter press starts from the top. It is all over the place all season and the midfield and defence have definitely suffered. He sets it all. Regardless I think Klopp might have to make some hard choices in the summer and as drastic as it sounds I wouldn't be against moving on Pep as his number 2.
