There is a difference but Sterling has two years left on his contract and if Liverpool don't want to sell this summer then that will be that

We saw it with Suarez and the same will happen with Sterling. Only a fantastic offer is likely to change that

I do agree, however, that Sterling is more likely to want a move to an English club due to his nationality and the fact he is from there

Exactly, Liverpool can play hardball with the transfer fee and get every penny but I don't think Madrid, Barca will be in queue to sign him for the money Liverpool will demand. I can see only City massively overpaying for him as they need to fill home grown quota.

Teams who have the money to buy him.
ManCity - Realistic option
ManUtd - They can overpay but it's near impossible transfer deal between 2 clubs
Arsenal - Can they pay so much that Liverpool demand?
Chelsea - Again realistic option but they are far more sensible in transfer market from past 2-3 years

Madrid - Don't think they will be in for him. He is not a galactico.
Barca - Transfer ban

Bayern - Realistic option, they have to replace Robben and Ribery but is he good enough for Bayern? They can sign Reus for that money.

All very true... I think, in terms of Liverpool, Man City would be the best place for him to go if we were going to sell to a divisional rival.

Our best hope in my opinion is trying to get some players in exchange rather than replace him once we have the money

Yeah but swap deals happen very rarely especially in English football. In Italian football it is somewhat common.

We missed the trick when we sold Ronaldo, instead of 80 Million we should have got money + Sneijder and Robben (both were rumored to leave anyways) but instead we got money and replaced him with Valencia, Owen, Obertan.

Same with Liverpool when they sold Suarez, someone like Pedro would have added lot. Sanchez would have been unrealistic as he wanted London only.

IMO Dzeko would be very good signing. Jovetic is very injury prone isn't it and also he adds more problems than solution. Again not a pure striker and someone who likes to operate from behind striker or from wings. Liverpool have Lallana, Ibe, Coutinho, Markovic for that role.

Also Nasri is on massive wages isn't it.

Maybe Bony? Might not be realistic as they signed him in Jan but he will add lot to this team.

I can't see a swap deal with City happening, Dzeko is a good striker but not the fast, pressing player that we need. Jovetic is good but too injury prone and hasn't played enough in the last couple of years to really judge him.

The perfect signing would be Lacazette, but I can't see that happening because he is unlikely to want to leave Lyon, and they won't want to sell him. If we somehow offer enough money to buy him then a bigger team with CL football will just match our offer, give him higher wages and take him - the same with almost all of the top players that we might be interested in.

After talking to one of my close mates last night who is a Liverpool fan, the more we talked the more I start to think maybe a change is needed, sadly the only person I think would be a good replacement is Klopp. Would be sad to see Rodgers go though

I think we need to sound out Klopp and see if he is interested - do whatever we can to entice him to join us. If he isn't interested, then stick with Rodgers, though his bizarre team selections and substitutions and the like don't fill me with a great deal of confidence, not to mention the transfer committee

That might be true - but when has Rodgers ever shown a willingness to try a different style to suit the players we have? Balotelli, Lambert - both used to different styles. Personally I hope we don't buy Benteke - he's an excellent striker who I admire, but he will cost a great deal and I don't think he suits Rodgers' style

Those occasions are extremely rare and are only really bought up by those looking for a different angle to run the same story continuously

I would almost feel 100% that Sterling will not be buying himself out of his contract at any point

Watched Neville and Carragher's reactions on MNF, have to say they were spot on. 20 year old trying to bully the club was unheard of and if Liverpool cave in then they are setting very dangerous precedent. Not saying Liverpool haven't done any mistake as they clearly did, they leaked contract offered to press everytime which put Sterling into spotlight and painted him as greedy ******.

Both parties won't come out of this looking good, both did terrible job but IMO Liverpool shouldn't let Sterling dictate the terms, ffs he is just 20 and next year it will be the same again with other players.

There is some sort of unwritten rule that clubs won't encourage that, for that reason alone it rarely happens and almost never in England.

Completely agree... Our transfer policy since FSG has lead to this. Lowballing on fee's and wages on new signings and contract renewals has let other clubs' interest change everything.

A key player like Sterling, Gerrard (at the time) should be dealt with as priority and a contract wrapped up, especially when the team was doing well
