All true , but how's that even an argument against playing Di Maria in midfield? Ancelotti has had remarkable success in finding new positions for established players. Eg. he reinvented Pirlo from typical number 10 into defensive midfielder. That didn't work so bad, did it?
I see your point but we are talking about the Premier League here, not Spain or Italy. Its unlike any other league in the world. Even the best players come here and look like they have never kicked a ball in their life. The argument is his performances there for all to see so far. Not good enough.
IMO we are crying out for a bit of quality width in the team and we have one of the best wingers in the world. And what do we do? Put him in central midfield where IMO he has neither the skillset or attitude to be successful there in the premier league. And its not like we are short of options in midfield with Carrick, Blind, Herrera, Fellaini, Rooney. Then we have players like Falcao and RVP constantly going out wide to find space and its a wonder why we are struggling to score goals or attack with any real conviction? And using a defender/wingback to do the job of one of the best wingers in the world.
*Rooney likes a dive about in net in training and by all accounts isnt too bad their. Might as well stick him in tonight against Burnley. You never know, he might be able to come out like Neuer and act as a DLP.
LVG is stubborn and with his record he has every right to believe his "philosophy" will come good, and I believe it will with the right players in the right positions when we strengthen next season, but this season he MUST play to the strengths of the squad before its too late. I believe that to be with wingers. Especially Di Maria out wide with his pace and crossing ability. We have a great header of the ball in fellaini. Falcao even if the balls are being put in the box for him but at the moment they are not really. Even Rooney isnt to bad with his head given the opportunity. Using fellaini to knock down balls like LVG was saying about winning the second ball.
It will be interesting to see his selection tonight considering the long ball jibes from weekend. Im hoping for Di Maria out wide and the team to attack with more pace but I cant see it happening. With Shaw suspended, I can see a back 3 again with possibly McNair starting. At home against Burnley I'd even put Di Maria at LWB. If he shows his real quality going forward, we shouldnt need him much defensively. Blind can always cover LB when Di Maria is forward anyway.
*Joke. Just making a point.
