The Manchester United Thread

That depends on the manager tbh and if said players can play to his style/instructions. Im very happy with what LVG has done transfer wise tbh.

But Van Gaal won't stay forever. At max 2-3 years. He is not doing a Fergie and stay more than 20 years so we should be careful about offloading players.

The good thing is when LVG leaves the squad should be ready for the next manager and not in need of any rework tbh. I just hope we make the right choice! Any ideas Giggs,Klopp,Pep,Carlo?

Darmian has been brought in, Valencia is preferred over Rafael purely due to his injury record mainly.... we've known this for a long time. At the end of the day you can't rely on a player like Rafael going into the season anymore because he is unavailable a lot of the time.

Early days but I think Darmian will be a big hit at United and will cement first team place, it's only pre-season but he has looked great so far. Best out of the new signings we've made if you ask me easily.

Agree he has been very impressive in pre season both attacking but even more so defensively. Knows when to took in when the attack is coming from the other side and always in position when coming down his own flank. Was 1st pick in my FFT :) Still think Schneiderlin will be the more important signing this Summer.

Hopefully squad will be in better shape but we don't know whether next manager prefers same players.

There are 100s of players who were injury prone but overcame them later in their career. Our very own Giggs was injury prone and had lot of issues with Hamstring, same with players like Robben, RVP, Sneijder but they all did well to overcome that.

Signing Darmian was fantastic bit of business but Rafael as a back up would have been better option.

At last the thing I was saying for weeks.

Simon Stone @sistoney67

Hit to Utd will not be as great as £ conversion numbers appear. Fee to Real was 75m Euros and payable in instalments. Loss will be abt £10m.

Giggs would be a massive risk and I don't think it'll be Klopp or Pep to be honest (Klopp to Bayern and Pep to City IMO). Ancelotti's a possibility, but I can't see him being out of management for two years. What about Simeone? I know he'd be perfect for us, if Jose ever left that is.

Paul Hirst @hirstclass Di Maria on his way. Deal could be done within 24 hrs. Fee 63m euros(£44.3m)

Hope this is true and would be a great signing at the price mentioned and would replace ADM straight away.

I'll repeat my view on Pedro

Not as good on ability, but a better system player, more consistent, and thrives against high and low defending sides. The latter killed us last season with too many draws, and Pedro is a specialist in opening such spaces. Not a galactico by any means, but very versatile.

So with the 1st game of the season less than a week away :) I think we will start with

DDG
Darmian-Smalling-Jones-Shaw
Carrick
Herrera-Schneiderlin
Mata-Rooney-Memphis

Maybe swap Rojo for one of Smalling or Jones if he is fit enough. Cant see Schweinstiger starting games staright away as he is clearly not up to full fitness yet. Possibly come on as a sub if things are going well or not after about 60-65 mins. Thoughts?

I agree tbh. He is just so good at utilizing the space and will be key against park the bus sides with his pace and movement. What you think about my post regards 1st game of the season?

MARCA | Van Gaal really wants Gareth Bale and Manchester United are willing to pay €122M.

Just for lolz. But if him and Pedro came :P

Not really. All 3 are still as injury prone as always. If Rafael was as good a right back as Robben is a right winger, it would be worth keeping him. But he's not.

And Giggs I thought was quite fine for many years and only starting having problems when reaching his 30s, which is not unusual.

I see Pedro is basically Young 2.0. Real workhorse of a winger, not exactly Zidane on the ball, but really efficient at what winger's job is - spreading the defense and creating opportunities.
