The Manchester United Thread

it's one think to say someone doesn't fancy Matuidi at the club, but using Kante as a comparison severely weakens said argument.

Not quite understanding your point, Matuidi is coming from PSG at the age of 29 and Kante is 25, just as good, proven in a much stronger league.

Kante arrived a year ago unproven in the prem. It shouldn't impact a signing that much. Look at L'pool Bentke and Mingolet were prem proven, would you take either of them. De Gea wasn't prem proven would you replace him with anyone other than possibly Neuer.

Matudi has 44 caps for France a ton of silverware for his team and won the French player of the year award 2015. Kante arrived with none of that and did very well. Matudi has also played a ton of CL games, I think a player of his quality can cope with a slightly different league without a huge impact.

You could argue no key player in Leicester side that won the league was prem proven except Huth and they managed fine.

I think Matudi could just about cope with a different league

He's got at least 5 years in him. Closest player matching his style is Nainggolan, and he's not moving. maybe Witsel, but he isn't as good.

It could happen. But i think is too optimistic to expect that he reaches 34 without signifcant losses on the physical side of his game.
He would make immediate impact tho.

You're missing the point, I'm not saying we have to buy premier league proven players, but when you have a choice between two similar players and one is younger, dominated midfields all last season in the same league, it would be bizarre to choose the other who is in French League close to his 30s.

I don't even see the need for another box to box midfielder though, it's literally one of the last things we need. Even if Mourino has some whacky ideas this would be an odd signing. Plus we should be looking to build, we don't need another aging midfielder close to his 30's. Should of just gone for Krychowiak or Kante.

Schneiderlin was one of the best midfielders in Premier League before he came to us, we should focus on getting the most out of him.

Matuidi is way too hyped on here, he may be decent but he has never done anything great or been a part of anything great either for that matter. Unless we're all going to say Ligue 1 is great.

He's dominated for France in midfield. more so than Pogba ever has. He's not hyped up, he's actually well ahead of Kante, a player you laud. Which means you either have never watched enough of him, or don't really understand the argument you;re making. He's also better than Krychoiwak. As for where he fits: 4-3-3.

the other one is a better player and played a a higher level for longer.

Mike does tend to over-expect on the age front, no way will we get 5 years out of him at his best, it will be 3 or 4 if we're very lucky.

Just like Schweinsteiger, when you buy a player at 29/30, it's always a risk how they will adapt, I'm sure Mike said we'd get 3/4 seasons out of Schweinsteiger at his best, so far we've had a season of injuries out of him pretty much. Schweinsteiger we will likely only get one or two seasons out of now if we're lucky, at any kind of good form. Wouldn't say we'll ever see the best Schweinsteiger in a United shirt.

Matudi won the French Player of the Year award ahead of the likes of Pogba, Benzema, Griezmann, Kante and a ton of other incredibly talented footballers if that isn't good enough then I don't know what is

Not really, Matuidi has been on a bigger stage than Kante has before he came to the Premier League. Kante has had his first season at the top level competing in a team that was capable and look how well he done. It's only now France have taken notice of Kante, before when he was at Caen he never had a chance.

Over expect? Carrick hasnt retired, and Bastain despite having one knee, asrolled off the bench each time and been great for Germany. He played over 100 minutes against italy. Only mistake was a pen.

And 3 or 4 years is more than enough. We've got TFM behind him.

Find a better argument to make. Because this one has more holes than a sieve

I said we'd get 3 seasons from Bastian. Which I expect we will.

If it helps zz, I had a conversation on Matudi with a French friend the back end of last week when we got linked to Newcastle's Sissoko and the PSG man came up in comparison. His thoughts on him:

Blaise is a normal guy who raised his game through discipline. He touched his technical limits, he's a fighter who will do the dirty work. Barton said he's a juggling clown with plates, you're just waiting for him to drop them, but somehow, he always manages to keep up. He contradicts the laws of motion.

He lacks tactical vision and sometimes he has problems to raise his game vs the strongest competition. Maybe because he had only one great coach (Ancelotti) to learn from and only for a year.

The tatical vision part is incorrect. Watch him vs Chelsea, even when down to 10 men. out thought them each time.

Dunno' to be perfectly honest. Honestly never really sat down and looked at him. Taking you all on face value and just giving another opinion I've had.

When he was coming through, definitely. It's now his strongest part of the game. And I think that could be even better under Jose. It's why I want us to keep Schneiderlin. They are both intelligent mids. IF we are after him, we are going 4-3-3, and that is the end of Mata.

That or we are about to offload more than one CM, potentially 3

Dominated what exactly? A national team that has underperformed? Or are we just talking about the French league with the best team by far where he is in a midfield consisting of players like Veratti/Pastore and other star players.

Kante at the first chance in a good team has dominated a better league, with better opposition, doing it with Drinkwater. Kante was a stand out reason why Leicester won the title and Matuidi as a player isn't better. His experience and reputation is.

So if Mkytarian is having his medical now if what Di Marzio says is correct will it be announced tonight? I would assume so being tomorrow is Mourinho day.

How many times have you watched Matuidi?
