The Manchester United Thread

I think we need a playmaker more than Matuidi personally, but if it kills Fellaini at United im all for it.

I can't see how you rate Kante without doing the same, he's basically a better version

I don't like Matuidi though, he is a jack of all trades and king of nothing player. Why do we even need him? What will he give us that Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Carrick do not?

Just not a player we need, if I had a choice out of the two I'd go for Kante. Younger and proven in PL.

He is a better CM than Carrick and Schweinstiger even though they perform different roles plus those 2 won't feature as much. And his passing is well underrated he is as a player imo. Defo better than Kante!

Matuidi is one of the best box-to-box around. He has the power and the technique to make it in both ends of the field. He's been vital to PSG. Our midfield does not have a powerhouse, that's partially why we are going all in for Pogba.
I agree with you about his age though, we already have experience in Carrick and Schweinsteiger. We should look for younger players.

He's not a jack of all trades, he's more like a king of all trades.

Proven in Prem means very little. Fellaini was prem proven, he's rubbish. You'd buy a weaker player simply because he's played in the prem.

Let's cancel our other signings too, not Prem proven.

Let's not chase Pogba, never got going in the Prem either.

You see how ludricrous that sounds.

While Kante is proven in the PL Matudi has looked good in the Champions League. I think he would be a good signing he is playing ahead of Schniederlin for France and has been performing well for PSG. My only concern over him would be age but, I think he will be a good signing if he is signed

He's got at least 5 years in him. Closest player matching his style is Nainggolan, and he's not moving. maybe Witsel, but he isn't as good.

Also on the PL proven bit weren't you complaining a while ago how we wait until a player goes somewhere like Swansea and buy them for three times the price instead of taking the risk initially and signing them for less. You complain when we want PL proven players and when we want players who aren't.

How could anyone not get excited by this

DDG
Darmian-Smalling-Bailly-Shaw
Schniederlin
Matuidi-Pogba
Mhkytarin-Zlatan-Martial

The only reaosn I wouldn't wan't him is because I'd want another playmaker, but I have no idea how he's going to set up, or who is leaving so it's hard to argue with the actual attempt.

If it's true.

Matuidi is a player who can almost dominate a midfield on his own. And has done so at the highest levels.

Not quite understanding your point, Matuidi is coming from PSG at the age of 29 and Kante is 25, just as good, proven in a much stronger league.

Kante isn't as good. Prem proven means very little these days. I might as well say he's CL and international proven. Oh and he's better than Kante.

Sakho's bezzie Matuidi.

Adds even more spice. Hope for your sake they don't go the same dealer ..... (6).

I don't even see the need for another box to box midfielder though, it's literally one of the last things we need. Even if Mourino has some whacky ideas this would be an odd signing. Plus we should be looking to build, we don't need another aging midfielder close to his 30's. Should of just gone for Krychowiak or Kante.

Schneiderlin was one of the best midfielders in Premier League before he came to us, we should focus on getting the most out of him.

Matuidi is way too hyped on here, he may be decent but he has never done anything great or been a part of anything great either for that matter. Unless we're all going to say Ligue 1 is great.

Kante has bossed midfields in PL all last season, I'd take him at this stage over Matuidi any day,

it's one think to say someone doesn't fancy Matuidi at the club, but using Kante as a comparison severely weakens said argument.

Kante arrived a year ago unproven in the prem. It shouldn't impact a signing that much. Look at L'pool Bentke and Mingolet were prem proven, would you take either of them. De Gea wasn't prem proven would you replace him with anyone other than possibly Neuer.

Matudi has 44 caps for France a ton of silverware for his team and won the French player of the year award 2015. Kante arrived with none of that and did very well. Matudi has also played a ton of CL games, I think a player of his quality can cope with a slightly different league without a huge impact.

You could argue no key player in Leicester side that won the league was prem proven except Huth and they managed fine.

I think Matudi could just about cope with a different league

It could happen. But i think is too optimistic to expect that he reaches 34 without signifcant losses on the physical side of his game.
He would make immediate impact tho.

You're missing the point, I'm not saying we have to buy premier league proven players, but when you have a choice between two similar players and one is younger, dominated midfields all last season in the same league, it would be bizarre to choose the other who is in French League close to his 30s.

He's dominated for France in midfield. more so than Pogba ever has. He's not hyped up, he's actually well ahead of Kante, a player you laud. Which means you either have never watched enough of him, or don't really understand the argument you;re making. He's also better than Krychoiwak. As for where he fits: 4-3-3.
