The Manchester United Thread

Pereira is never getting on over Pogba mate. He'll get his mins, but he knows his place in the line. When we're playing weak opposition, 4-2-3-1 with Matic/Herrera & Pogba is fine. When we play 4-3-3, it's likely to be against tough opposition/tricky away games, in which Matic-Herrera-Pogba is our strongest midfield. Pereira is an offensive CM, like Pogba, but Pogba levels ahead. I do like him, and he will get mins, but don't be surprised to see him left out of quite a few PL match day squads.

Not sure we should be trying to get Pereira in the Pogba position. He's more suited to further up the pitch maybe no.10 or even on either wing.

I realise it's going to be hard for him, but honestly, if we're waiting for him to succeed Pogba.. we mayswell just sell him now. Pogba has a long, long time at United.

Because Jose sees him as a CM, like a number 8. It's where he played all pre-season (even deeper), it's where he was played most of the season for Granada, and I assume that was under Jose's advice/instruction.

He's a handy player, with a relatively high ceiling, but he has a lot of steps to climb on the ladder yet.

One thing I'd truly love to see, is him used a bit like Herrera was at times last season. Like in the deeper role behind Matic and Pogba, in a midfield three.

There are a lot of things we could try, but right now, getting a consistent winning team is the main thing, understandably.

Yeah, for as good as Utd were the opener (best performance opening weekend by far), my God West 'Am are abysmal, aren't they? Absolutely nottin'. This is opening day for Pete's sake! Bilic is under serious pressure there. Money spent and they still look as bad.

Pogba superbly dominant. Matic very good. Rashford a very good outlet. That could easily have been a 7- 3.

Brilliantly open, entertaining first weekend. Why it's the most watched league in the World. Here's to it continuing in that vein all year.

For all their ******* fans bleating, they were toothless

West ham had their chances, but the scoreline didn't even flatter United, which says a lot about both teams. I have bilic as first manager to be sacked

Probably fairer to judge West ham after a few more games, this was always going to be tough for them.

One thing I don't really get is why use Chicharito up top in a game like this when you have so little service for him? He's hardly going to hold the ball up well against Bailly and Jones either. Just seemed all rather odd.

Having said all that, Matic was fantastic today and I hope he can reproduce this consistently. He could be the key to this season for me. Keep him fit and we could do very well. If he gets injured I'm a bit worried though, as we don't have a replacement for him really. Carrick is great but Matic just offers something extra.

As I've tried to tell younger family members and their friends. Matic is the best signing we made this year.

Mourinho and his mnd games again..For God's sake, let the team be happy for once..(I know that this will probably spur them on this year, but I'd really rather he took it a notch down, so that he could last longer than 3 years)

It was fine? It's day 1, not day 38. A happy yet grounded interview.

Swansea next then, going to be pretty tough at their place. Got to be confident going into it after this performance. Should be able to dominate in the midfield yet again with Matic and Pogba.

Might go 433 in that game and bring Herrera in. Plus Sigs looks likely to be gone this week. Should be able to go there and get a result!

Just imagine Zlatan and Lukaku up top together from Dec :O

Can't see them playing together but definitely good to have them options. Who knows it could happen?

I think one thing our team benefits more from now as opposed to last season. Is Lukaku's ability to run in behind and creates more space for those behind him. Whereas Zlatan doesn't offer that at this stage of his career and doesn't obviously have the pace Lukaku does.

Hard to judge him off todays game though, he'll have much tougher tests against better opposition, going forward.

I don't think he's **** tbh, just inconsistent and kind of a liability at times. Plus his fitness is very frustrating.
There are 3 phases to Phil jones

First, he gets injured
Second, he gets back and plays awfully initially but as he gets a string of games, he starts to play well consistently
3rd, he gets injured

Yeah didn't really mean as a 2 more Zlatan just off Lukaku. But like you said who knows. Would still like to see Perisic and Aurier come in.

Yea, I guess, but wouldn't it mean alot less time for Martial and Rashford?(Griez is a freak who doesn't tire and is also a straight up certainty for starter when fit.Anyways, will cross that bridge when we come to it, trust Jose to figure that out
