The Manchester United Thread

No idea if ESPN's story is correct and whether it's true that the haste of Manchester United's bid has meant they didn't understand that £16m only got you a seat at the table rather than taking home the pot, but the haste of the bid will mean that a lot of the important contractual stuff will take longer to sort out than would otherwise be the case.

Mike - Young's personal demands are, erm, extravagant. Can really believe £34m over length of contract once loyalty bonuses and signing on fees and being a good boy clauses and the like are added in. You may be paying premium rate for his signature. Good luck to him if you lot are willing to pay that I guess ;)

seriously i'd tell him where to shove it, we werent willing to pay Sneijder 7m a year, why on earth would we pay early the same for him? Hasnt even signed for us and im already really starting to hate him

deal very nearly done for ash young #mufc personal terms agreed and deal to be finalised when he's back from holiday in 7-10 days time

source: SSN

Asked about why he rejected LFC and AFC,Jones said "If I wanted my career to continue with no trophies I'd just stay at Blackburn''
******. Have fun being back up to the back up!

It's fact he's talking about:
Blackburn's last trophy? Don't know
Liverpool's? 5 years ago
Arsenals? 6 years ago

Manchester United have won 8 trophies and cups in that time. He's going to be our DM/CB for the next 10 years winning more trophies than Blackburn, Arsenal or Liverpool put together

why they need him is beyond me, unless Berba is leaving which I dont think will happen, they got enough strikers... Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Owen, Macheda, Welbeck

Edit: Just saw the source was Goal.com :(

I have seen it other players, He is 18, so he wont go into the first team squad for 3 or 4 years yet, even if he does sign.

whats the point of signing him, he will hardly come cheap Chivas will surely pump Man Utd if they try to steal their star player again, plus the progress of players such as Macheda and Welbeck will stall (both are very good youngsters)... plus you already have adequate back-up strikers in Berba and Owen who will still be around in 3-4 years time so where will that leave him as he will hardly be given the chance to justify his transfer fee due to the competition in the squad?

cantona to play in Scholes testimorial in August

Sky Sports News just told me

Not the point. The disrespect he's shown to two clubs who were close to signing him, just makes him look like a snide ****.

where's football without the banter, slagging off rival teams. It's better than going to United for the money, and instead having an eye for success. Something that Arsenal atm don't seem to have.

Did Jones actually say the Liverpool thing? I'm sure if he did then the media would be all over it by now.

Hernandez strikes Gold

Javier Hernandez took his Gold Cup goals tally to five in just two games when he netted a brace against Cuba in Mexico’s 5-0 victory on Thursday.

The 23-year-old United striker scored his country’s first and last goals in the rout, and also provided an assist for Jesus Guajardo. Hernandez, who grabbed a hat-trick in Mexico’s opening Gold Cup fixture, against El Salvador, has now scored 19 goals in his 25 international appearances.

Against Cuba, his first arrived on 36 minutes when he headed home from close range after a well-worked short corner. Goals from Giovani dos Santos (2) and Guajardo followed before Hernandez swept in Mexico’s fifth and final goal with a neat half-volley.

The win moved Mexico two points clear of Costa Rica, who Hernandez and his team-mates will face on Sunday 12 June, at the top of Group A.

It wasn't all good news for Mexico, though. Before the game, five players tested positive for banned substance Clenbuterol and were withdrawn from the squad. An investigation is underway.

Does anyone think Dos Santos should have been given more of a chance at Spurs? I think it is likely that he'll move this summer, but I've always rated him.

Just ordered my Paul Scholes testimonial tickets, Cant wait to see cantana.

A little off topic, but 5 positives? Surely a mistake, or someone spiked their drinks on a night out, or collective stupidity just reached a new level.

lol. I guess everyone is a snide **** for saying something bad about another football club?
And he didn't even say anything bad. Just said something backed up by facts.

I don't recall anyone getting in a tizz over Dzeko's comments? Back then it was "just a bit of banter, adhering himself to the fans."

Heard Man Utd agreed a 130k per week deal for Young. FML
