The Manchester United Thread

Haaland is basically a Ruud Van Nistelrooy regen who's more athletic. Doesn't offer much outside the box but his off the ball movement is superb and is very clinical.

Pretty much. I really don't get the negativity for Haaland?

As was previously noted here, he's killed it at every increased level he's stepped up to thus far. Not least on the very highest level of all. Europe. And there's little to suggest that won't continue. A fee of around £120 million (Christ knows where the £180 million nonsense originated? But like the Sancho nonsense last summer, that's been TOTALLY over blown ), to get him early seems about right. (Doube or so his £63 million release clause that kicks in next June. 2022.). Which would probably be down nearer the £100 million mark.

Here's a prediction-

Haaland and Mbape are the next two massive things in World football. Both will be playing int he PL going head-to-head Messi/ Ronaldo style within the next two years.

I could see Haaland coming to PL, but who would go for Mbappe right now? Also i am at the side that Haaland has higher ceiling and Mbappe wont excel for so long. Also think they wont be comparable to CR7 and Messi numbers and the rivalry seems a bit pushed by media and fans.

Some reports still have him with a 90m (one payment only) clause this summer. Still think if they get 115-125 they take it regardless of the noise.

#mufc have launched an attempt to poach recruitment specialist Stephen Ajewole from Manchester City, to become the new lead scout for the u15s-18s. The move have been initiated by David Harrison, who is currently United’s head of youth recruitment #mujournal

ENGLAND CALL-UP: U15 CB Louis Jackson who has been playing U18 football at Utd has been called-up to represent England again at this age group.

Another one to look out for. He’s 14 and absolutely crushing it since being promoted in the last 3 games to the u18s due to injuries.

Dan James had an excellent game for Wales last night reading reports getting MOTM and scoring a cracking header which was the winning goal in a key match for them.

See Donny scored last night coming on as a sub. Lot of Dutch fans saying he didn’t look fit. And he’s not even that high up in the pecking order for the national manager either.

Sancho and a CB this summer, and we should be okay going forward. Honestly, I'm game with having Martial/Cavani/Greenwood for another season before looking at a striker. Get a proper CB and we are more or less okay. Get in Garner as a DM (he honestly reminds me of Carrick a bit, and that is something we sorely need) and Hannibal to rotate with van de Beek (who is backup for Fernandes, anyhow). Maybe get rid of DDG, Matic, Lingard, Bailly/Lindelof.

And a creative CM if we lose Pogba.

The meeting today with Cavani and Murtaugh so should here something on if he’s staying or not another year.

You doubtless won't agree mate as you've some mad notion (to me) that Solksjaer is actually a competent coach. But for me, van de Baek is completely stifled by the massive limitations of his manager not having a clue how to play him. And it's setting his career back immensely.

He's Utd's best midfielder by far me (Fernandes included) and I'd have him at Anfield in a heartbeat.

Utd are SO limited in how they play under Solksjaer when if he had any kind of intuition/ guts, he has the perfect, World-class midfielder in the making there that could literally run games himself. Presses madly. Superb range of pass. Gets beyond the forwards. Brilliant on the ball. You just can't get it off him. Scandalous movement. Super intelligent footballer..... He's the only Utd player that remotely comes close to walking into our best XI and would be the perfect Wijnaldum replacement if he were to indeed leave.

He was the best player in that Ajax side that should have played L'pool in Madrid in 2019 who's been completely wasted at Utd under the PE teacher

A panic signing after the absolute ____show carnage of Sancho who Utd don't have a clue what to do with. When he should be the cornerstone of any United future progression.

Honestly, I agree. Not with the Fernandes bits, as they are completely different players, but van de Beek is an outstanding player. His off the ball movement and the way he creates spaces is insane (and on the odd occasion that he played with Mata, they ran the midfield together with their movement). Part of the problem is that noone else is in-sync with the movement he does and there is no exploitation of the space he creates when he plays.

But again, he doesn't fit the system that Solskjaer wants to play, nor is Solskjaer seemingly willing to change it, so yeah, impasse there. IIRC, at Ajax, he played in all three midfield roles (as a #10, CM and a DM (2man DM)). He can definitely adapt, needs to play more and needs more players who understand movement and exploit space.

I agree with almost everything you say besides the Fernandes bit. His range of passing isn't as good as Fernandes to begin with and you act like Fernandes doesn't do his fair bit of defensive work.

VdB doesn't offer creativity on the ball rather, he offers it off the ball combined with his brilliant one touch interplay makes him and absolute nightmare around the edge of the box. I've previously suggested that we have nothing to lose trying VdB out in that false 9 role since our forwards have been hot and cold this season. He may surprise us.

Funny how he’s well down the pecking order for Holland now with the current manager. Who seems to rate Gravenberch, De Jong, De Roon higher according to a lot of Dutch fans on Reddit.

Doubt it is funny from his side.If you play so little for club there huge doubt getting sniff at national team. Where should he get his fitness up?

Just another example of the scatter-gun, really poor recruitment at Utd with no actual plan involved as to where a player fits.

Buy the big name (which was an unneeded panic to make-up for the Sancho embarrassment), and worry about the consequences later.

I like Fernandes a lot mate. Just think van de Baek is a far better all-round footballer personally.

As mentioned, in a different scenario, if Wijnaldum were to leave L'pool, van de Baek would be the perfect replacement above most any other midfielder in Europe.
