The Manchester United Thread

Your deadline day was reminiscent of Arsenal's whole summer. Had a number 1 target, had a price and yet still tried to negotiate, only problem is we didn't try to negotiate with 3 hours left in the window and went on to our second target for once.

If the paperwork wasn't sent on time I highly doubt it will go through, although the FA have been lenient in previous times.

Fellaini was a good signing like I was debating earlier in this thread, after one of your fans labelled him as an 'average player', which was ridiculous. Good signing and adds what you needed to the midfield.

Herrera would have been a good signing he's still got improving to do aswell. I think United have missed out on a gem of a player to be honest but we'll see. Willian and Eriksen would have been very good signings but once again United were far too slow and just didn't even express an interest which was silly really because now they've gone to United's rivals and strengthened them which is just going backwards for you lot.

Yeah you have strengthened but I don't think you have matched the expectations fans like yourself and others may have expected at the start of the window. When talk of players like Thiago, Fabregas and many more were being mentioned, to only pick up Fellaini, and may I add just about pick him up, is a little disappointing I think but Fellaini is a good buy.

To your last part about the inability in the market - which in link to my last part of my post about expectations may have lowered a majority of the older fans - however I still think there were a lot of fans hoping for much more, I agree that United have missed out on some really good players this year, and in the past, and that needs to change. However there is no denying that the success that United has had in the past shows they are certainly doing something right.

Willian, Ozil, Eriksen are all irrelevant as they are number 10s tbh

Carrick - Fellaini
Anderson

That doesn't look too bad.

Fellaini I think is a good signing and I like him as a player. But for the price it was rather steep.

If theories are true, we weren't even doing the negotiating, it was apparently imposters on deadline day. Wish United would just clear all this up though.

David Moyes on Ander Herrera: "I really like the player but we thought the buy-out clause was the wrong valuation"

Exactly what every fan wanted to hear right? Unwilling to pay 6m more but did pay 4m more for Fellaini. What a joke. His comments needs to be thought out better.

They werent imposters. They are lawyers who did the work for Javi Martinez to go to Bayern

Also not sure why people keep saying Ander only had one good season. He actually dropped into the centre of midfield and played a much more supporting game to replace Martinez, and not only did he create more chances, he also got much better defensively.

Hahaha. Deadline day and club who even with the money can't replace the player...

Are athletic bilbao in europe this year? If not should go in for him and coentrao in jan if we still in europe that is.

That was absolute farce imo. The Inability to complete these type of deals will not only cost us now but in the future too...Considering United are the "Biggest Club"...this transfer window has been nothing but moronic....we have no chance with future big signings...Not only this but our pattern in bidding for players has been ****...Thiago,Fabregas,Fellaini & Herrera all different kind of players.....Will we be back for Herrera in January? If I was Herrera I'd tell United to **** Off.....If it is true that Coentrao deal got hold up because of delay in fax then it's more ridiculous....

What I don't get is Besiktas get another few days to complete the Buttner loan deal? Why can't we have had a bit more time for Coentrao. Although lets face it, Real Madrid don't want to lose him now anyway.

Also Herrera deal was very confusing. There are many reports saying that even after release clause is paid, Athletic can stop buying player, which they did even to Bayern but Bayern consulted every legal team possible to make it happen, whereas we didn't have enough time to go through all that ****.

So question is why did we leave it so late? I don't think we pulled off just because of 4 Million. Media is having field day going on and on about ManUtd but there are so many contradicting reports so not sure which one to believe.

Also on Fellaini's release clause, no one ever confirmed that it was 23.5 Million. It was started by 1 paper and was carried on by every paper. Point is no one is really sure what was the release clause. Fourth Official who is very reliable when it comes to Everton said clause is much higher than 23.5 Million (also reports that it was 30 Million) so 27.5 Million means we got it below release clause. Even if we have paid 4 Million extra, so what. We got it wrong, we thought we could get him for less but it backfired. These things always happens. Remember we could have got Berbatov for 20 plus million but because of Fergie we ended up paying almost 10 Million more.

All in all I'm happy that we addressed our weak link. Carrick and Fellaini is very good pivot to build our attacking team on. Would have been great to have one creative CM too, but with the way Rooney drops deep it won't be of an issue. We can't play Carrick Fellaini Creative CM together with Rooney Kagawa RVP as everyone will be out of position and Nani on the bench.

Turkish transfer market is opened till 6th of Sept.

Did Moyes really said that? I don't think so. Looks like one more twitter quote with no truth whatsoever.

Ahh... now that would explain it. The logic of making offers to Real Madrid for Khedira and Coentrao on the last day is really baffling. Imagine if we had of got Khedira and Fellaini, dafuq.

Honestly can't remember where I saw it, but it weren't something like IndyKaila put it that way lol.

You can forget about Herrera after club hang him out to dry. He went out of his way to force the transfer, even agreeing to wage cut and now he's left with nothing. Can't do **** like this to a partner then hope he stays interested.

Athletic Bilbao not so innocent in Herrera to Manchester United collapse, claims Spanish journalist

“What a mess”. Those were the words quickly doing the rounds on Twitter last night when news trickled through that the deal for Ander Herrera was called off. Newly appointed Manchester United CEO Edward Woodward was blamed thousands of times for multiple things, but one word came up more than once: “incompetent”. It's hard not to agree with the accusations, but a question everyone wants answered is “what actually happened?”.

First of all, it's worth nothing that the “three wise men” spotted walking in and out of the LFP (Liga de Fútbol Profesional) headquarters were not impostors, but a group of Bilbao lawyers who had dealt with Athletic Bilbao (especially in the Javi Martinez transfer) before.

Other than talks of the deal breaking down over the release clause, it appears there was an obstacle that even Bayern Munich struggled to overcome when they attempted to sign Javi Martinez.

Lartaun de Arizmendi, a journalist for Cadena COPE (the radio station who first broke the news that Manchester United were interested in Ander Herrera), has revealed in a post on his personal blog that, irregardless of the reported clause, the Herrera deal was near impossible to complete and that Bayern Munich needed external help to force through the Javi Martinez transfer.

He says that after much reflection on the Javi Martinez case, Athletic Bilbao came to realise that the player depositing the cheque on Bayern Munich's behalf (even if Athletic were against the move) wasn't enough to make the deal 100% go through. Once they had discovered this detail, Athletic used it to their advantage and told Bayern Munich that for a unilateral deal like this one to go through, the club has to agree to receive the fee in their bank account.

If Bilbao refuse to receive the money, and there was no obligation for them to do so, the will of the paying club (Bayern Munich) and the player (Javi Martinez) counted for nothing. In order to force the deal to go through, Munich contacted the Financial Council in Bilbao to tell them that this offer was being refused. The Financial Council, who would benefit from this deal going through, pressured Athletic Bilbao in accepting the money by telling them that if they did not do so, they would be required to immediately pay all the debts they owed the Financial Council and would not receive anymore help from them in the future.

It is only after this happened that Athletic Bilbao accepted the offer for Javi Martinez and have the money placed in their bank account.

Returning to the Herrera deal, it appears that there was never any panic on Athletic Bilbao's side and it was reported many times that they were confident the deal would not go through. If what Lartaun de Arizmendi has written is true, Bilbao knew that Manchester United would never have the time to get the Financial Council on their side in time for a similar process to happen.

If Bilbao refused to accept the money in their bank account, this would explain why the three Laffer lawyers were turned away at the LFP headquarters yesterday evening.

Edward Woodward (or whoever was in charge of the deal) was not aware of the loophole exploited by Bayern Munich and why would they be? Athletic Bilbao will have clearly done their best to keep it a secret in order to hold on to their best players.

As we all know, Juventus had to wait an extra year to get Fernando Llorente on a free because they hit a stumbling block similar to the one Manchester United crashed into late last night. Again, if what Lartaun writes is correct (and logically, it seems to be), Juventus would not have known of the Javi Martinez loophole and Bilbao stubbornly refused to accept the money.

Lartaun writes at the bottom of his post: “This is what I have managed to find on the Ander Herrera/MUFC deal. Now, it is up to you to draw your own conclusions as appropriate”.

We will, Lartaun, we will. If what you say is true, perhaps Manchester United are not the only ones to blame for this deal falling through

Or maybe there is more to it than just ManUtd refusing to pay.

The reason they wanted the money paid to them and not the player was because the player buys out of his contract, tax man instantly gets involved, then you add another 50% on in tax.

Yes they did play a part but knowing the market and knowing things like this could and probably would happen, leaving it so late was idiotic. 27.5 for Fellaini is a bit much, definitely a needed player though, does hint at a hint of desperation along with the Khedira bid.
