The Manchester United Thread

1. I did say if memory serves. But Im right about them only qualifying once in CL and a couple of times for Europa League.
2. Yeah I remember that disaster ...

i only remember it briefly what actually happened was it injuries or just an utter clusterfuck?

1. Please dont take what I say out of context. I said that he has not won anything previously NOR shown anything since appointed to show he knows what he's doing/how to improve us.
2. Do you think Martino/Klopp/Guardiola would (have) stay(ed) for long in their posts if they had shown themselves to be half as clueless as Moyes has so far?
3. Simeone is NOT at a big club. Or rather he' s at a club which has a tradition of being rather ridiculous ...
4. Id take Rajkard over Moyes any day.

How did I take you out of context?

1. Trophies ARE the main measure of a manager's success if that manager wants to take one of the top jobs in world football!

You didn't even mention Moyes. You said trophies are the measure of how successful a manager is. I gave you a list of managers who got jobs at top clubs without a glittering CV.

Klopp finished sixth and fifth before winning two titles.

They're not doing too badly under him though, huh.

Indeed, I can definitely see why a man most recently sacked by Saudi Arabia is more qualified.

3. The idea that a patently unfit for the job manager (who has done nothing in his career before joining us as well as nothing since joining us to show us any hope he knows how to get us playing better more consistently) should be given time to destroy us completely is even more appalling. Especially since by winning the said matches nothing will be gained in comparison (cl places are way out of reach and, well, he's to blame for that).

1. This is from my initial post. I then said that trophies are the MAIN consideration for someone wanting to take over a top team. Hence the out of context thing.
2. On Klopp - you re not answering my point whether any other top club would stick with him if he was performing the same clusterfuck way that Moyes has within 6 months! Oh and Dortmund were not a "top" team when he took over - they were in the wilderness having gone thru serious financial problems.
3. Lets send Moyes over to Saudi (PLEASE!) to see how he does over there!

So your answer is to constantly fire someone if things are going pear shaped until one manager eventually sticks....

1. And I was showing that that's a stupid thing to say.
2. Moyes has mitigating factors too in the fact that our defence is crumbling, we don't have anyone who can so much as spell the words central midfield, and our wingers are more predictable than the sun rising in the morning. I'm not saying he's doing a good job at all, just that he deserves a non shambolic transfer window to build his own team. Yes, completely on blind faith that he'll come good. But I've mocked every other club who have a revolving door of managers because I believe it's the wrong policy. I'm not gonna become a hypocrite after being forced to endure a few bad months for the first time in an awful long time.
3. I'd rather send Young and Anderson (if Woody can afford the extra weight costs).

1. Wenger hasnt won a trophy in 8 seasons! He wouldnt have lasted half as long without winning anything (and justifiably so) in any other "top" club in Europe. All that he has managed is to turn Arsenal into a nice feeder club to the real top teams who actually play this mythical thing called "beautiful" football that has no bite, fight or bottle. Not missing CL football is hardly an achievement for a top team.

2. You have a point on Mourinho but others take over teams with resources and/or good squads and do **** all whereas he consistently produces.

3. Rob Martinez. Moyes hardly used Barkley. He does. He lost arguably their best player in Fellaini. You say that Everton are not in European spots? They are 6th two points off Spurs and in the Euro League spots! Also, Everton were "frequently" in the European spots under Moyes you say?! Mate ask an Everton supporter, he only qualified once for CL and then lost in preliminary round (pretty badly if I remember correctly) and was in Europa league 2/3 times but never made it too far. So this point is basically quite valid.

4. Wenger IS a specialist in failure if the last 8 seasons are anything to go by (and you can add this season to it as well.

5. Martinez is only at Everton for 2/3 of a season. Its not exactly difficult to eclipse the "achievements" of Moyes at Everton. Who incidentally has never managed to beat a top team away EVER!!!!

Incorrect as a a matter of fact. We did not lose quite badly. I can tell you now for a fact (to quote Rafa) that if Duncan Fergusons perfectly legitimate goal had not have been ruled out, we would have taken Villareal to extra time. Pierluigi Collina penalised Darren Bent for a shirt pull-when in fact it was vice versa.

Just thought I'd correct that for you

Pretty good memory for a man of your years, there.

Even I'm not willing to argue with Ajt about Everton. There isn't anyone better placed on this forum when it comes to Everton than him

Surprised I can still remember lol. I don't want to but it's one of those haunting memories sadly. If that goal had not of been disallowed-it's one of those "what if" situations sadly.

In other news, we've been watching Benatia. Rather chase him that compete with City for Mangala.

I bought Van Gaal's name up in here about a week ago

I was first! i brought his name up like 2-3 months ago in this thread! :p
Anyways, what about Meulensteun returning to United as manager? or is it impossible after what happened at Fullham and Anzhi?
He does know how man united works and SAF would back him up for sure...

He just did a terrible job at Fulham. so no.

The whole thing about Rene is that he is a brilliant coach, but less trusted as a manager. This is straight from the whisperings at Old Trafford, so no chance they would make him manager.

Darren Bent? :P

Would appear my high praise for his cognitive abilities came too soon. Back to the retirement home for you, Grandpa.

Yeah my bad. Marcus Bent :$

Knew I should've restocked on my meds. Anyway I'm full of flu right now so I'm using that as an excuse......

Grandpa with a flu? Better update your will!

I see this. But sacking somebody who's patently a catastrophic mistake doesnt mean you have a revolving door thingy. It means you are perceptive imho.

Anyway I know Ill be proven right about him and that he ll go halfway next season AT THE EARLIEST (unfortunately) ... So we ll just have to wait and see (and just so people dont misunderstand again what Im saying - Id rather not be proven right and we succeed. Ill happily eat 100 humble pies ...).
