If that's true then Laporte will go to City, we have no hope of luring him as Pep will be there, anyone who's Spanish pretty much will just go to City if they have a choice between us two clubs.

But seen a report saying that Varane might be looking to leave in summer as is unhappy, anyone know if he has played much this season? I think we'd have a good chance at getting him, but if PSG went calling I'd imagine that would be his preference.

Tricky summer for us that's for sure. Our best hope could genuinely be Stones thinking about it logically.

According to M.E.N in last hour they reported that people in Spain are claiming that City have activated his release clause for the summer.

That's the end of Mangala there. We should target Stones or Varane, both Jose favoured, Varane and Jose had a very good relationship too.

Yeh our best hope are with them.

But I still think if PSG end up in the mix with Varane he'll go there. That's why I imagine it will undoubtedly be Stones.

Hopefully Roy Hodgson plays Stones and Smalling together in Euro's, best partnership by a mile. But he'll go with Cahill and Smalling.

Darmian - Varane - Smalling - Shaw next season? Mmmm, yummi!
Really can't see Varane leaving. It was only last Friday he was saying how happy he was in an interview with Spanish radio. Should go for Stones or Koulibaly if Laporte is off to City. Or Maskanovic has been very good also. Lots of reports in Germany about Hummels going to Chelsea apparently.

I think it was only yesterday I read something about Varane being unhappy with lack of games, so could be anybodies guess what he's actually thinking.

What about Dragovic? His name has been popping up for various big clubs the last couple of years but nothing has ever seemed to go anywhere. Never really put a foot wrong when ive seen him play (which is very little). Only 25 and could be a solid player for the right price.

Yeah who knows regarding Varane seems like Madrid are having a clear out and are a strange run club. Dragovic is solid but no more. Would be good squad replacement if we got rid of Jones. But would still need a starter to play with Smalling. Not sure we need to CB into. Smalling, with a new partner plus Rojo, TFM, Mc Nair, Blind, Williams, CBJ, Tuanzebe plus I would give Jones another season.

I just find it laughable how there is even a debate between whether to choose De Gea or Casillas as Spain no.1. It's an absolute no contest, De Gea is best keeper in the world and Casillas is not even the keeper he used to be, even if he still was De Gea would still be tough competition.

Spain always have this unwavering loyalty to their first choice. Even in meaningless friendlies the one player that plays more or less every time is the 'keeper. Zubizarretta for years and years. Then Casillas. Reina hardly got a look in. It's bizarre but it is what it is and Del Bosque continues that same loyalty.

To think De Gea could very well be sat the bench the summer just blows your mind.

Casillas has over 100 caps as a team captain. Never easy to compete with a guy like that.

Part of Spain's downfall I think, when I seen them in the last world cup I thought they stuck with a few players when they shouldn't of and blooded in more upcoming players like Koke into starting 11 etc.

Having said that, when you think about it England aren't much different, I mean Rooney will be our indisputed starter yet again despite doing very little this season compared to other players. We hold on to relying on these kinds of players too long as well is what I'm getting at, even when they are not the same player they once was and there are players who are outshining them.

There were at time at least 3 GK better than Reina in Spanish national team.

People are really underrating Valdez this much to think Reina was better? Ok. I'm done with football for today.

If you truly think Valdez is/was better than Reina then perhaps its good that you're done with football for today. Valdez was an awful keeper who was lucky to be in goal for one of the best sides in football history.

The irony of this. Calling Valdes, (not Valdez) an awful keeper is actual nonsense, even from Liverpool fans who might have worshipped Reina

They were both excellent keepers at their peak, Valdes was just the more consistent of the two, but neither were as good or consistent as Casillias at the time
