The Manchester United Thread

Valdes was ok, but playing for a side that constantly maintained 70% possession certainly made his job easier.

Reina winning three Golden Gloves in a row for Liverpool is another story.

Not his fault that. Iker played for Real.

The irony of this. Calling Valdes, (not Valdez) an awful keeper is actual nonsense, even from Liverpool fans who might have worshipped Reina

They were both excellent keepers at their peak, Valdes was just the more consistent of the two, but neither were as good or consistent as Casillias at the time

Disagree, Reina was better then him in every department. Although Reina did lost the plot towards the end though. However how much of that was due to losing his gk coach Xavi Valero who was an excellent coach.

Valdes an awful keeper.....seriously? Yes he may have struggled against crosses but awful?

That's enough internet for me for today

Rafa leaving more than anything. His heart just completely went out out of the club when that happened. That last season he was just going through the motions from being the best 'keeper the league for 3 or 4 of the previous 5. Took him some time to settle here, mainly in the air surprisingly for such a big fella', but when he sorted that out he was immense. If he'd stayed long enough, he'd be the clear second best 'keeper we've ever had after Clem for me. But I'd have to give that honour to Brucie purely on duration.

Just a smidgen behind Casillas on the World stage for a time the late double 0's.

Valdes was/ is a good, competent 'keeper. (If dodgy as all heck in the air. Not good for a 'keeper in England.). Rather silly to say he was 'awful' man. But he certainly wasn't on the standard Reina was for a good few years period.

This is the point. Casillas was easily better than 2 at that time and his decline started after Reina's started. So at that time it was no brainer to play Casillas as #1.

Playing him a #1 this season is strange and nothing but stupidity.

On a side note, it's really sad how Januzaj's development has been completely abandoned. On his debut season with moyes, i don't think i've ever seen such a young players as cool on the ball as him.

He's like martial but without the explosiveness plus he was silky. He made everything look so easy. I don't know what happened to that januzaj.

attitude, something that needs to change quickly, hopefully it will under a new manager.

Also this nonsense about Valdes is madness, bit suspect in the air but most keepers these days are lets face it. Good shot stopper but the most important thing for Barcelona is that how good he was on thw ball and what he added to the high line they played at the time. Not any keeper could do what he can do and there is probably only a few who could play that role as well/better than him.

He does seem to have gone off the boil so to speak due to an attitude problem. He still has those skills only he thought he could just walk right into the team due to being over praised it turned his head so to speak. When Utd were advising he that he had a spell on loan with a Championship side (where he would get more experience of the physical side of british football) he wanted go to a European side where he could show off. His own overconfidence was his downfall. Hopefully he can still achieve but only if he realises he needs to work on getting to be the best not just believe the hype after a few good games.

Laporte has broken his leg and dislocated his ankle. Doesn't look like he'll be going anywhere any time soon

Not sure there was a point where he was the best keeper in any league he played in....

Yeah. It was the time when we had VDS and Chelsea had Cech.

But then we are talking about person who thought Coutinho was the best #10 in the league prior to this season.

Still dont believe things some of you guys said. Gotta take another day off. Too much stress!

I just love how history gets completely rewritten here constantly to whats said. A little twist here. A little twist there. And voila.

Must be a virtual ego thing to do that.
