The Manchester United Thread

Tbf Wilf got no chance at all haha, glad to see him playing well for Palace the moment. With everything that's happened over the past few years, it just goes to show how incredible of a manager SAF really was, how he got the best out of certain individuals and made them play splendidly as a team when in hindsight, some of them have been exposed to be bang average, bewilders me. The Boss.
Zaha hasn't changed much. Excellent dribbler but no end product. Nowhere near good enough for United.

Sounds familiar...

Not saying he was going to ever be at that level, I'm just saying if your club spends £10 million or whatever it was on bringing a young winger in with bags of potential, it might just be worth giving him more than 2 games & a month or whatever it was of training with the coaching staff before deciding he's not good enough. Question; if Ronaldo was sent on loan to Palace & Cardiff when he had little end product, before being flogged off to them, instead of staying with Sir Alex & working & training with world class players, top coaches, etc., would he be at Real Madrid today as arguably the best player in the world? I wouldn't bank on it. And yes, of course I know Ronaldo was younger and showed more raw potential, but the similarities are still there.

I just don't get it to be honest. Moyes might have been afraid to drop Rooney. But LVG? The guy famously dropped Rivaldo the year after he won Ballon d'Or, for god's sake. And the way he cleaned United off aging deadwood was absolutely brutal. Mourinho usually doesn't **** around either. Why would two managers with long reputation of ruthlessness would be afraid to drop someone who underperforms for 3+ years straight? It makes no ******* sense.

Genuinely believe it's contract related.

UNDER 23'S: XI v DERBY: O'Hara (GK), El Fitouri, Tuanzebe, Poole, Riley, Redmond, Scott, Willock, McTominay, Harrop, Hamilton
Subs: Moutha-Sebtaoui (GK), Olosunde, Williams, Chong, Doughty

Chong and Sebatoui rewarded this week with a spot on the bench. Hamilton looks like he might have earned himself a regular spot in the u23s after a couple of impressive performances too.

Currently 1-0 to Utd McTominey the scorer with a good header and a good bit of play by Harrop for the assist.

'IF' that's the case, and he in effect can't be dropped, Woodward or whomever deals with the contracts needs sacking. That would be a disgrace and make a complete mockery of your club.

NO player is bigger than Utd.

I can't for one minute believe that is the case but were it to be ......

It's all true, it all stemmed from when Fergie dropped him from the Madrid game. He gave the club a written ultimatum at the end of that season, and they surrendered the following year.

There's no way he has straight "must play if fit" clause, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sponsor related.

U23s finished 3-2 decent game. Harrop best player for me. McTominey and Tuanzebe were good also. And was a great cameo from new signing from the u18s Olesunde who chipped in with 2 assists.

I keep thinking it has something to do with breaking the goalscoring record, I recall him saying ages back that the thing that swayed him to staying was he wanted to become a Manchester United "legend", let's face it, he's not exactly blessed in the brains department, so a little bit of "come on Wayne, break Sir Bobby's record and then you can leave" whispered in his ear once or twice and he's egged on. Could that be the clause if any? Monster bonus for him too? Or could it just be a gentlemans agreement between the club & a highly paid player that's done so much for them over the years? (To play until he breaks the record)

Jose Mourinho gives Luke Shaw a rocket after Manchester United lose again at Watford | Daily Mail Online

I was pretty shocked when I saw this. Seriously? Is he blaming this kid, who came back after missing one year of footy and actually plays pretty well instead of sending that fat **** #10 to retirement? Beyond ridiculous.
I've seen every interview of Mourinho since the Watford defeat and don't think he's been harsh at all tbh. Why should he not criticise players who make mistakes etc. I'm interested to know how the Fail know Mou singled out Shaw and seriously singled him out and ripped into Shaw?

Same here, and it seems he has groin injury now also...
It's only natural he's going to pick up niggles after such a long lay off from a serious injury. He will get a rest midweek and should be fine for the weekend I read. He even admits himself his leg hurts him still in training and when he wakes up some mornings.

I honestly haven't been following and it may not of been harsh whatever he's said. But that's where it started at Chelsea.

Thing was he never used to do when he was successful. No doubt he'd rip players a new one behind closed doors. But publicly, in the media, he'd defend them 100%. Players always knew he had their backs regardless and repaid that loyalty by going out and giving everything they had for him on the park.

Then he came back to Chelsea his second go-around and his ego had gotten that big it was EVERYONE but him when it went wrong. He started throwing his players under the bus and he completely lost the dressing room. We know how that all turned out.

This change in his man management is proving to be to his detriment. If, and it's a big 'if' right now but let's play the hypothetical if he's starting out that way again at Utd, he alienates another group of players and they stop playing for him and he failed at Utd; I don't know where his career would be left. Two straight big club disasters where he's fostered an insular, toxic atmosphere ..... Who of any note would touch him after that? Dangerous game to play.

He came back after his break from Chelsea saying he'd changed but it seem's exactly the same Mourinho to me. And that's not a good one when things aren't going smoothly.

United have had far worse 3 game slumps than this before. No one else remember the week of ****?

There won't be a playing clause at all. Rooney has a massive influence among players, both those he plays with and against. The problem is that his body won't do what his mind wants it to do. Every new manager, club and country seems to think they can be the one to revitalise a player who genuinely was world class. No one wants to be the one to say he's done.
