The Manchester United Thread

That was what I was alluding to what many people would say by 'protecting his legacy.'

But that would infer he cared more about that than Utd and as he's a bonafide Utd legend it wouldn't be right to do that so it's best left there.
I don't think he was protecting his legacy more case of ensuring the club had a scapegoat for failure after all the same thing happened when Busby left. Moyes was gullible enough to believe the club wanted him for his abilities to manage not his ability to fail.(6) Mind you Van Gaal tried to have a clear out but was too outdated in his views. Mourinho as much as I hate him just doesn't care who he upsets as long as the team wins (strangely enough I think he realises that he has to prove he can build a team with United and not just go for a quick fix like with Chelsea and Real).

Moyes was definitely out of his depth, but you can't deny that the club completely failed to support him properly. That first transfer window was just shockingly bad. It's not managers job to negotiate transfer deals, it was Woodward who for 3 months failed to deliver on anything.

Moyes was clearly promised by upper echelons that he can sign the Bales, the Neymars, the Fabregases of the world, and ended up having to panic sign Fellaini on the last day.

Call me out for being over optimistic, but I feel that Mourinho has done a brilliant job with the team in the time that he has had.He had a point to prove and he is showing us that he is trying to prove it with the different style of play from his Madrid and Chelsea teams. The Arsenal game is a great example of us being robbed(Burnley and Stoke being the others).Add up the points lost there and suddenly we are looking very good.Bottom-line is he is our manager and he has gained my trust.

Not sure that's true tbh. Not saying Woodie was great to start with, but if he managed to get Kroos out of Madrid for Moyes then he's hardly a **** negotiator. He was absolutely mad going after Bale and Ronaldo! The money was there for him no doubt, but some of his targets were mental! Fecking LVG for cancelling the Kroos deal btw!

Moyes was definitely financially supported. They simply picked some ludicrous targets

As for Ferguson setting him up to fail:

United's future targets were all young hungry players, ready to step. On the contrary, Ferguson believed he saw himself in Moyes. The issue is that Ferguson was being sentimental at this point, rather than his ruthless self.

I just really hope we smash Sunderland. Have hated them ever since they celebrated us getting the title snatched off us ("Aguerroooooooo"). Just a cruel, vile touch to what was a horrible day for the club and fans.

Yes, I hold a grudge.

Was there :( They were singing like they won a trophy cnuts. Was an emotional rollercoaster! Seeing the players at the end looking stoked then in seconds heads dropping and confusion as they tried to gage what was happening from the crowd. Never been more dejected about a footy match in a long time.

UNITED'S LINE-UP
United: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Herrera, Pogba; Mata, Lingard; Ibrahimovic. Subs: Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Fellaini, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rashford.

Happy with that team. Should be a comfortable win. Really strong bench to change the game if needed, great to see Mkytarian back from injury!

Is ANY game a 'comfortable win' for this Utd side? What should be and what often is are two completely different things when you continue to be so profligate in front of goal.

Complete PL role reversal going on the last 15 months or so. L'pool have become PL Utd. Utd have become PL L'pool.

But that's for another discussion.

Lingard could be key once again, with his movement. But the kid is pretty inconsistent, a match winner in one game, and invisible the next.

I'd say 2-0 vs West Brom last game was comfortable enough.

Hope Anichebe scores a hatty as I have activated him my fantasy team given there's always a chance you'll concede. And a Pickford clean sheet the other end after he's made a slew of saves also please if you can oblige haha.

Nottin' personal like.:P (6).

*Edit* I now also want Brad Smith to both keep a clean sheet and score for Bournemouth at Chelsea as he'll get bumped off my bench with two of my starting defenders not involved at all today.

The joys of fantasy football when you're not too concerned about actual games haha.

Anichibe down with a shoulder injury after 10 minutes, you jinx :D Poor smith gonna concede 3+ now hahaha.

Edit: He's back up and running, but keeping a close eye on him ;)

So long as Hazard is the one getting these three plus I can live with that. :D.

*Edit* Ack. Pedro is the one to get the break through. Brilliant finish. Harsh on Bournemouth but changes the completion of the game. Or would if Chelsea would come out. We'll see.

Have Pedro in fantasy, got him for something like 7.2 a month or more back, not bad for someone in a front 3 of a team on top of the table.

Sunderland playing with that 9-1 formation alright. Pogba just hit the post.
