The Manchester United Thread

Until we're back in first, there's little concern with whats going on behind us. The pressure if any is coming from Chelsea and keeping nicely in touch with them for the game the end of January.

Yeah, but all in in all, with Chelsea and United winning today, there's pressure on all of those named teams in one way or another. IF Everton were to somehow get a result on Monday, which would be a surprise, then you'd be 9 or 7 points behind Chelsea and possibly only a reduced 6 ahead of United (double figured points ahead of us at one stage, right?), in what's only December.

It's going to be a long, interesting season.

Interesting from Mourinho to go from 'Carrick can't play twice in a week for the same reason I can't go to the gym everyday anymore' to plaiying him what like 3 times in a week? He obviously knows he's a huge player and massive part of that midfield trio. This could be our hardest job in years when it comes to replacing Carrick.

The thing is, the way Carrick plays, I think he could play for another 2 years. He plays in the manner of someone like Pirlo, doesn't use a lot of energy, just amazing positional awareness and dictates/controls the game. It's all down to him whether or not he wants to hang them up or not.

Looking at one team at the moment. The team in first and finishing above them. The focus is on winning the football league. Nothing less.

Fair enough, good attitude.

Didn't realise you were only 4 in front of us, thought you were 6, my mistake... excuse me in saying come on Everton, Burnley, and a little draw at the Etihad. (6)

You could guarantee me 2nd to 4th now and I'd happily turn you down. I want to see how this plays out and this team is seriously looking at the same thing.

If you're seriously looking up at teams above you and over taking them (and why wouldn't you be?), I'd add another point on in the fun calculations game of where you may make up the difference for the big goal difference/ goals scored deficits.

But.... Michu was only £2m. :D

So I have to ask as I haven't got a clue here .....
Haha sorry, that was random as ****. Remember the Swansea lad, was mint for a season or more, seen as a big bargain, I remember that line was almost used as much as the 'Arsenal 4th' joke. :D

Good Lord. Just seen a short highlight clip from yesterday and that has to be one of the worst examples of referring for a LONG time.

First you have a no question straight red card for Rojo that completely changes the game at 0-0. (That's two in the last three games now that have been real dangerous and nasty from him. Need to reel that back in ASAP or the next official won't be so lenient.). Then missing not just the blatant hand ball from Zlatan but Pogba being offside the same move on Utd's first. Talking of blatant, just how do you not see the Palace fella punch the ball away for a stonewall penalty? Followed by the bizarre offside on Mata? With countless more doubtless missed in between.

Craig Pawson and his crew need to hang their heads in shame after making such bad calls on such blatant incidents.

And his 'reward' for such incompetence? ...... L'pool- City on NY's eve.

Oh what joy.

A premonition.
Three blatant penalty kicks missed, two straight reds and one for 2nd yellow not given, offside goal for City given, Klopp sent to the stands for smiling too much.

On Rojo. The guy has been a fixture in the Argentine defence for a long time now. Not surprised if he s actually been quite good when given a run in the team in his natural position. And by natural position Im alluding to him being **** at fb.

You think you're half joking about him, wait until Mike Dean erupts the Derby into chaos tomorrow! Only the 3 red cards and 9 penalty kicks awarded from him so far this season!

Another absolutely scandalous referring appointment that wants shutting away in the same draw as Anthony Taylor when it comes to either L'pool or Manchester club. It's rightly been 10 years since he's officiated either L'pool or Everton, and he's only ever refereed either club once ..... so they decide to give a lad from the Wirral the biggest game for both clubs. GENIUS!

You seriously couldn't make this **** up if you tried.

Here's a controversial opinion. Jesse Lingard is the most talented youngster to come through United's opinion in a decade. The guy could become a prolific scorer if he learns how to finish. He understands space. His off the ball movement is excellent. He's a Raumdeuter just like Thomas Muller, Theo Walcott or now Cristiano Ronaldo. Going onto Ronaldo, his decline has been fascinating. He couldn't dribble past a bunch of Japanese farmers tonight in the club world cup. To be fair, they put up a good fight. I read an article full of more advanced analytics a while ago to show an evolution of his game. He's a complete Raumdeuter now (AKA wide poacher). Ronaldo doesn't have the acceleration of old and hardly gets involved with the game. If he isn't scoring, he can be a liability. He's now turned into a goal machine. His shot volume in the box is in the range of Kane's, Suarez's and Alexis' entire shot volume! He has a football brain and has turned to an absolute goal machine. He relies on his physique no more. I recommend How to Watch Football written by Ruud Gullit. 75% of football is off the ball. If Muller had no footballing brain, his technique would get him into the Bavarian Sunday league.

Is this the new regista for football hipsters? :)

Not really. Half the teams in Europe play with a regista in a 4-3-3. It's just is football is changing. Gone are the days with simple midfield destroyers. Xhaka, Weigl, Carrick, Motta, Verratti, Busquets, Kroos etc are all excellent pivots. They change the tempo of their passing to get their team out of the press. This is the type of player you need to win a champions league nowadays. Or, you need a ball carrier that can't be pressed Kampl, Thiago, Modric, Hamsik, Iniesta, 2011 Wilshere etc.

A raumdeuter is simply a wide poacher. The best in the world would be Ronaldo who has a great understanding of the game as well as being tremendous off the ball. Thomas Müller is an awful technical player but always end up in huge pockets of space at the end of attacking moves. Theo Walcott isn't understood by Hansen either. I can make a post later justifying their roles. It's more than just an a hipsters.
