The Manchester United Thread

Figured you, in particular, would appreciate this hard but enjoyable watch on a bona fide football, let alone Utd, legend. People think Bailly's special. This guy was something else among all his flaws.

Premier League World Special - Paul McGrath

Never knew Ferguson and Utd had tried to pay him off to retire early back in '89 when they wanted to be rid of his drinking problem. What a horrible practice. Thankfully he turned that down as the last 10 years he just got better and better without training and just tipping up of a Sat'day and dominating. Freak of Nature.

paul was defo a true beast

Yep, would've much rather had him stay but if we were loaning him out, loan him out to another bpl club ffs so we could have an idea of how he could do in the league.
We know he can do it. We know he has all the ability. What he needs is constant game time, to continue his development. I'm pretty sure that he would not be starting hardly any games on loan in the prem.

Jose Mourinho is expected to be approached over extending his Manchester United contract in November, the mid-point of his existing deal, which ends in 2019.

Any new agreement will depend on the team’s performance this season and although the end of May will be the telling point, negotiations about the future are expected to start before Christmas to enable a smooth conclusion to any potential deal next summer.

Neither of Mourinho’s two predecessors in the job, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes, have lasted beyond two years at Old Trafford.

How do you? What have we seen from hin in the PL that gives him that?

I mean, he can do it in La Liga.... so can others. But a lot have struggled to adapt and PL football is a lot different.

To answer that you'd have to both know if any PL clubs were even interested and if so, were they right ones for his development?

Not as easy as just saying 'loan him here or there.'

Ok he's not done it in the prem as you say. But if he can perform to such a high level against the likes of Madrid, Atletico and Barca I'm sure he can do it in the Prem. Prem proven is so overstated imo!

Jose Mourinho is not happy with #MUFC's Andreas Pereira joining Valencia. "It was a personal decision - a decision that I don't agree with"

Mourinho says #MUFC have Pereira situation "under control" w/ long-term deal & Jan 1 recall clause, but decision "disappoints a little bit"

Mourinho says United have had a good transfer window but still have a "weakness" in the squad.

He also promised that every squad player will have played by the end of the month. And he has a full set of players except Rojo and Zlatan to choose from.

Veron? Di maria?

Di Maria problem wasn't the Prem. It was the manager and his tactics, also the fact he never really wanted to leave Nadrid in the first place.

Ozil needed some time to adjust to the bpl. At real madrid, the guy would boss it against the likes of barcelona, bayern, juventus etc.

I don't think players need time to adjust to the league more they need time to gel with new team mates, possibly learn the language and get used to life in a new country. If a player feels unsettled it will likely affect their performance and if you are moving somewhere you have never lived it will take time to bed in

Absolutely. Something most people in general never take into consideration. Even more so when it comes to young players who may well be leaving home for the first time in their lives coming to a completely new Country and culture. No wonder a lot struggle to adapt the first year or so.

But I do think the unique physical demands of this league, or more so the British game in general, are still a massively relevant factor for foreign players. It's not only the breakneck speed we like our footie played at and the ultra competitiveness from top to bottom all season long that is like very few other places. But the sheer mad volume of games that's so different. Along with no mid-season break to take time off and recharge.

Team vs Arsenal u23s

Reserves: #MUFC v Arsenal - O'Hara; Riley, Olosunde, Warren, Shaw; Hamilton, McTominay; Bohui, Boonen, Mitchell; Wilson.

Reserves: Substitutes - Richardson, Scott, Buffonge, Whelan, Dearnley. The game is live on #MUTV, kick-off 19:00 BST.

Oh, be appreciative if Utd could draw or win that haha.

It'd open the chance of a nice little 2 game lead over everyone the top the table 4 games in by beating City Sunday.
