The Manchester United Thread

I expect us to now play to win, that's why Mourinho has gone, he was playing to not lose.

But I seriously just see this as a write off we might have a little cup run with the FA Cup, but apart from that Ole is just coming in to sail the boat. Get the players back on side and some positivity back within the club.

It's defo Ole btw, Norway Prime minister just tweeted it and Norway seems to be going nuts about it haha!

Great day for Norwegian football. Good luck keeping control of the Red Devils, @ olegs26_ole

Man, just got home and saw the news. I believe relieved is the word for what i feeling.

Manchester United are currently languishing in sixth in the Premier League, some 16 points behind leaders and bitter rivals Liverpool.

Mourinho is the third manager in charge since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and is seemingly no nearer to delivering a league title to Old Trafford.

Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool and Jose Mourinho confessed his side had no answer to the Reds' pace and aggression.

Alisson's first-half howler gifted Jesse Lingard and United an unlikely equaliser after Sadio Mane had put Liverpool ahead, but the tenacious Reds were not to be denied their first league victory over United since 2014 thanks to substitute Shaqiri.

Sacking Mourinho wouldn't solve all of United's problems. But it would solve one :'(.

Be great to see Ole back give the place a lift and get us attacking again. And Mike Phelan is a fantastic defensive coach. Will have to dust off his tighty shorts though and Packet of balloons :)

A few this morning saying Utd want Poch and Poch wants Utd. Stoney from the BBC saying Ole and Phelan should be announced this morning/early afternoon.

Ole confirmed as Phelan as his sidekick. Cant wait for the next game. Haven't said that in almost 3 years ffs.

If I remember correctly Ole should be fan of big srtikers up top(uses one in Molde also), would be interesting to see how he works with Lukaku.

One thing with Ole we won’t be passing it around the box. His attacking drills at Molde are insane. Shoot as soon as your near the box if you don’t he will let you know about it. Goes mental at his Molde players in training if they don’t do it.

Very good also Carrick and McKenna being part of the new setup.

Manchester United announced today that former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007. In 2008 he became the club’s reserve-team manager, before taking the managerial role at FC Molde in Norway.
Solskjær will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager. He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

“Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role. I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club,” said Solskjær.

Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, comments: “Ole is a club legend with huge experience, both on the pitch and in coaching roles. His history at Manchester United means he lives and breathes the culture here and everyone at the club is delighted to have him and Mike Phelan back. We are confident they will unite the players and the fans as we head into the second half of the season.”

Its funny how much Scouse reads and sees and knows about United. Makes you wonder...

Guys, honestly, don't bother with the Cardiff debacle.... yeah he had a bad spell there but the squad was gash and it was poisoned chalice at that time. Cardiff fans will say different obviously of course, they were relegated after all.

But anyway who is looking at it from the angle of 'we hired him because he's a top manager' is looking at it wrong anyway. He has been brought in to improve relationship between players and fans, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh and one more thing, Southgate done terrible at Middlesborough and admitted it was too early in his managerial career. Then he went on to do great things with England.

It's exactly the same with Solskjaer, he took that Cardiff job too soon, be the first to admit that. He went to Molde and won them 2 league titles first time in 100 years they have ever done that. Yes it's Norweigan League but still impressive. Oh and he plays attacking football and is loved there. Hence why it is being celebrated like a national triumph in Norway.

Not to mention in Europa League he won a group with Molde consisting of Ajaz, Fenerbahce and another team I think (can't remember who it was now).

Phelan will play a huge roll in this. Fergie can’t talk highly enough of him in his book. Very good defencive coach, organiser and man manager. Even recommended to Moyes to keep him on.

Behind the scenes yeah, but I want Solskjaer to be the main man and get us playing football again. None of this Mourinho bollox, even if we lose, we need to lose THE UNITED WAY. WE PLAY TO WIN, NOT PLAY TO NOT LOSE.... MOURINHO DID NOT EVER UNDERSTAND THAT.

This quote is spot on and just typifies what Solskjaer will bring that Mourinho didn't: -

Solskjaer has been brought in to build the players up, not break them down.
