SEASON 4: PRESEASON

LEAGUE NEWS

Dundee move up 98 places to break the top 100 European Clubs, sitting 89th.

My coach, Paul Scholes, takes over at Motherwell and splashes the cash on English talent.

Ranger continue to be smart in the transfer market.

Celtic make the Europa League group stages convincingly.

KIT LAUNCH

View attachment 207236
A bit of influence from a previous Dundee kit, I'm very happy with how these turned out. The choice of a contrasting collar to go with the adverts and logo gives the finished kit great finish.

PRE-SEASON TARGETS

SPL: Winner.

SCOTTISH CUP: Winner.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP: Winner.

EUROPE: Champions League Last 16.

TRANSFERS

View attachment 207235
All up we lose four first team player. Our biggest loss was Sondre Rossbach who moves to Schalke for £15.5mil but could rise to £20mil. He was without doubt our most important player but after coming in on a free there was no way I was turning down that sort of money.

Piazon leave for more than double what he come from Chelsea for and we also say goodbye to Abdul Razak who follows Piazon to Norwich. He was a real fan favourite at Dundee but with youth at the club right on his tale for that defensive midfielder spot it was time to let him go.

View attachment 207234
With the money in the bank it was again a year of poaching youthful talent from countries across the world. We were able to bring in four first team quality players but I with all the youngsters in our youth ranks I will be giving many opportunities for them to improve and make their mark on the Scottish Premiership.

View attachment 207222
We see Pascal Itter leave for a small profit after moving last year. He was always going to be a short term option until I found a player good enough. Borja San Emeterio is exactly the play good enough to stabilise our right side for many years to come.

View attachment 207220
Buta was bought midway through last year as I was convinced that Piazon was on the move. He will act as decent cover for both wings as I found better options for the first team later in the window.

View attachment 207218
Luka Jovic joins the ranks after not playing a match for Red Star in two years. He was wasting away in the Serbian reserve leagues and for £1.5mil it was a risk for taking. He was sadly not given a work permit but he has been sent to French side, AC Ajaccio, to play some first team football for a first time in a long time.

View attachment 207214
A 36 year-old ***** Caballero has come in to act as cover for a very young goalkeeper department. Rossbach moved for big money, so our Croatian wonderkid, Matko Seric, will play regularly with ***** playing important games in the Champions League.

View attachment 207208
Our biggest signing for the window is Dortmund’s winger, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. The 24 year-old have struggled since moving from Atletico and hopefully with regularly first team opportunities here in Dundee he will become the player he has always promised to be.

View attachment 207224
A total of 15 youth team players were bought this season with all showing significant improvement already. Still not Scottish talent coming through the ranks but with the players we have brought into we are in a strong position for many years to come.

THUSO MAHLANGU

After moving from Kaiser Chiefs in January last season, Mahlangu has become a key staple in the first team providing pace on the right wing. The kid is an absolute jet and with the potential to be a world class player, I’m very keen to see how he does this season.

OTHER NEWS

LEAGUE NEWS

The Old Frim battling with us for the top of the table.

Celtic bottom of Europa League group.

Ex-Dundee, Kane Hemmings leads goal scorers with 11 from 10.

Could we be going through to the Champions League last 16?

INJURIES

View attachment 207144
Jorge has been a rock at the back for us since he came in two years ago and has always showed signs of struggling with injury. Unfortunately a serious injury was around the corner for the big centre half and he will be seriously missed as we try to compete on both domestic and European fronts.

RESULTS

View attachment 207146
The squad has geld amazingly at the start of the season and we seem to be hitting new heights destroying anyone in our way. We have struggled a bit with a leaky defense but I feel like missing a key component such as Jorge is massive. The Celtic game was the only match where we dropped points but I'm not overly annoyed as we dominated the game without luck.

View attachment 207143
I don’t want to jinx anything like I did last year but we’ve looked very strong in the Champions League. The Dortmund win was amazing, there goal was from a corner but from open play we dominated the whole match.

View attachment 207142

I feel like beating CSKA Moscow away will give us the third pace at a bare minimum. I’m just praying that I haven’t jinxed myself.

SPL TABLE

View attachment 207149
We have an 8 point gap at the top of the league and seriously can’t see anyone coming anywhere close. Celtic are struggling to score and if they can’t compete with us, we will win the league at a canter.

KEY PLAYER

MARCO VAN GINKEL

Marco has been extremely good at pulling the strings in the midfield so far this season. He’s far too good to be playing in the Scottish Premiership and I won’t be surprised if he starts to knock on my door for a move away from Dens Park.

OTHER NEWS

I’ve just signed a three year extension but I’m not sure if it was the greatest idea. Could I be leaving in the near future? Is Dundee good enough for me to move on to another Scottish side?

Another batch of hot prospects join the ranks at Dens Park. Still very little Scottish talent around to ****** of other clubs, so making sure that we get these foreign youngsters in early will allow them to be trained at the club to help with European constraints. Many of these players are good enough now to play first team football which gives me more headaches with team selection but I’m not complaining.

ABSOLUTE SCENES! With one match to play against Liverpool we sat second and already qualified for the knockout rounds. I was expecting a massive lost to Liverpool who were only starting to flex their muscles in the competition but to the boys credit we pulled a rabbit out of a hat and ran away top of the group.

View attachment 206681

Now, finishing top of the group would make you think that we’d miss out the big clubs and hopefully play a lesser top division side. Well, we only given the current holders of the Champions League.

LEAGUE NEWS

Ross County officially relegated and in doing so sack manager, Gary Caldwell. Martin Canning appointed.

Hearts end season magnificently and pip Aberdeen.

Celtic stopped by Man Utd in Europa League 2nd Knockout Round.

Anyone looking for a new manager?

RESULTS

View attachment 205870
Only three loses and a draw in this period of games. One of those was sadly to Celtic in the League Cup Final which saw us smashed 3-0. Celtic were the only side that were able to beat us convincingly throughout the year and deserved the win.

View attachment 205871
It was great to beat Marseille which saw us play Premier League giants, Manchester City. They were just too good for us but we can hold our heads high as we made the final eight of Europe’s most prestigious competition.

JOHN BROOKS

After moving from PSG for a record £7.25mil, John Brooks has really started to find some form late this season leading us to a Quarter Final appearance in the Champions League. The American Centre Half has been a rock at the back and suitors have lined up for his services going into next season.

AROUND THE LEAGUES

PRESEASON TARGETS

SPL:
Winner.
SCOTTISH CUP:
Winner.
SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP:Winner.
EUROPE:
Champions League Last 16.

After dominating domestically last season winning the treble, I felt like Europe was our main priority this year as well as the league. We were able to finish in the Quarter Final of the Champions League and also win the league and Scottish Cup, so I'm fairly happy with the season.

SCOTTISH CUP WINNER
View attachment 205659
Celtic were able to pull the Scottish Cup from the grasp of Dundee, stopping the Dees from completing a domestic treble. Celtic left arguably their best performance all season for the final where they battered Dundee 3-0.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP WINNER
View attachment 205658
The eventual winners, Dundee FC, were head and shoulders above anyone else in the competition. They progressed through the rounds with ease beating Celtic in the final 2-1. Dundee’s Yannick Ferreira Carrasco put in some sublime performances for the Dees averaging an 8.07, the best in the competition.

CHAMPIONS
View attachment 205658
Th3 King’s Dundee FC have replicated their previous season winning another SPL Title making that four in a row. This year saw the Dees absolutely dominate the league, winning with five matches left.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFICATION
View attachment 205659
For the first time since 2010-11 there will be two Scottish teams in the Champions League. Celtic finished a very comfortable 2nd place after a great year in both domestic and European fronts. Robbie Nielson has been at Parkhead of two years now and seems to be settling in nicely of late.

EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFICATION
View attachment 205643View attachment 205642View attachment 205641View attachment 205639
Four teams have qualified for the Europa League, which is a great sign for Scottish Football. Rangers will be the team to lead Scotland into the competition with an ever improving team. Motherwell will be another team to watch who seem to have bottomless pits of money nowadays.

RELEGATED
View attachment 205638View attachment 205637
Both St Johnstone and Ross County were relegated this year. St Johnstone should be feeling sorry for themselves after sitting above the relegation zone up until two matches of the season to go which saw them inevitably fall to Hibernian in the playoff. They’ll surely be a prime contender for promotion back up next year.

PROMOTION
View attachment 205636View attachment 205635
Dundee again will be competing in the Scottish top division after winning the Championship quite comfortably. Hibernian were the other side to achieve promotion after beating St Johnstone 3-2 on aggregate.

FULL TABLE

View attachment 205650
After starting the season extremely well, St Mirren were slipped all the way down to 9th position. Inverness were quite poor this season after finishing 3rd last year and Hamilton can thank their lucky stars they’re be competing in this league next year.

SPL REVIEW

View attachment 205648
View attachment 205646CELTIC - 8/10 represented Scotland quite well in Europe this year making the 2nd Knockout Round of Europa League which can only help the National Club Coefficient. It’s nice to see them spending a bit of money instead of relying on loans.

View attachment 205645DUNDEE FC - 10/10 Great year for the Dees, can’t complain with a quarter final appearance in the Champions League and another title win. We were unable to do the domestic treble again but I’m not massively disappointed.

View attachment 205644ABERDEEN – 5/10 similar to the past three years, mediocre and rarely looks to trouble the top 4 but were able to secure European football which may be a good thing for them.

View attachment 205634INVERNESS CT – 4/10 very poor from a team who finished 3rd last season. A few of their players did struggle with injury so they may be more of a contender next year.

View attachment 205633MOTHERWELL – 7/10 after being taken over by a very wealthy business man two years ago, Motherwell have started to make considerable ground on the Scottish big boys. Spending £11.58 million and not recouping a penny cannot be good for them in the long run.

View attachment 205632ST JOHNSTONE – 1/10 Poor from the Saints this year. They can only blame themselves for being relegated this season.

View attachment 205631ROSS COUNTY – 1/10 never looked at all good enough to survive.

View attachment 205630PARTICK THISTLE – 4/10 anther mid table team who don’t look close to troubling the top 4. 16 goals came from Welsh striker Tom Bradshaw, and was involved in more than half their goals.

View attachment 205629ST. MIRREN – 5/10 Started very well sitting in the top three for the year but could hold onto the form and slowly filtered back down to the bottom half of the table. It’ll be interesting to see if they can strengthen as they have the foundations of a decent side.

View attachment 205628HEARTS – 6/10 another year that the Jambos would be happy with. Qualification for the champions League can only be seen as a good thing.

View attachment 205627RANGERS – 7/10 starting to become the Scottish force they once were. They’ve been shroud in their signings and with an extra European place, Rangers will hopefully only get better and better.

View attachment 205626HAMILTON3/10 they were able to survive the drop by the skin of their teeth. They were nestled in 11th position all the way up to Match Day 36 where they were able to beat St Johnstone. Malky Mackay relied heavily on goals from Juanma but with his contract expiring they’ll have their work cut out again next year.

TOP GOALSCORER

View attachment 205652
Again we see a sensational season from the Scottish international, Jason Cummings, scoring 29 goals in 28 appearances. Although not as lethal as last season he was able to put more than a goal a game past opposition goalkeepers this season.

FOOTBALL WRITER’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR

View attachment 205653
Motherwell’s Nikos Vergos was a key component of an up and coming side who finished 4th. Providing 22 goals and 9 assists for the Steelmen, the Greek International was deserved of the FW Player of the Year.

SCOTTISH PLAYER’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR

View attachment 205654
Thus Mahlangu was outstanding this year on the right side of an attacking three for Dundee. With an average rating of 7.54 the South African International was able provide as a goal scorer as well as a playmaker throughout the season.

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR

View attachment 205655
Pozo moved from Spanish side, Sevilla on a Free Transfer in the summer and has thrived under manager Th3 King. Playing 29 matches, scoring 3 goals, assisting 4 and averaging a 7.34 rating, the Spanish playmaker was able to represent spain at U/21 level to top off a wonderful first season in Scotland.

TEAM OF THE SEASON
View attachment 205656
4 players from Dundee and 4 from Celtic. Cummings yet again leads the line but still cannot replicate his club form at International level scoring only 2 goals in 13 caps for Scotland.

INDEX

View attachment 205657
Now I was looking to move on from Dundee very soon, but after just a week into the offseason we’ve already had bid for two of our key players.

I’m expecting a massive transition of players in and out this summer so I may have to stay to steady the ship.

We loose two first team players and a long serving backup. Thuso Mahlangu had come along leaps and bounds since moving from Kaiser Chiefs but the South African International wanted out and we took the money from Dortmund and ran. Buta also leaves after one season with us and Craig Wighton will be sadly missed but he wasn't getting first team football at Dundee and I'd like to see him improve rather than rot in our reserves.

View attachment 205544
Definitely the biggest in for us. A player who had the world at his feet after a 2014 World Cup that showed everyone the potential he processes, Quintero has struggled to make an impact at Porto playing only 12 matches in 3 years. At 26 years of age and without a club Juan Fernando Quintero joins the Dees where hopefully you can settle in a play the first team football he craves. Sadly as he signed we met some bad news.
View attachment 205538
The Arsenal youth product was released by the London club having only played a single match. He has spent the last four years on loan at numerous championship clubs and will hopefully continue to improve with us.
View attachment 205537
A massive Scottish talent that was being closely followed by the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and even Barcelona, but decided to join Dundee instead. Not much else you can say but he’s destined for a massive future in football.
View attachment 205532
The Manchester United great comes to Dens Park on a free transfer. He’s now 35 and on his last legs but with immaculate mental and technical attributes I think he can only be a positive in a very young squad.

Amazing so far, and will only get better :)

So youth intakes have been very disappointing so far? have you already maxed out junior coaching and youth recruitment?

I was considering a scottish club for a long term academy challenge (i.e. only using regens from club's youth intake), hopefully some local talent will eventually come up through the ranks!

The youth intakes have been absolutely abysmal with the best potential player I've received being two stars.

After being up 2-0 early on against both Manchester United and Zenit I would have expecting to be top of the group with all 9 points but that wasn’t to be. We made hard work of it, but we’ll be competing in the Knockout Rounds of the Champions League for a second year in a row.

MARTIN KUCERA

Pushed on again since preseason and leads the club's goal scoring tally with 14 goals in 10 appearances. His link up play in the middle of the park is sublime and only seems to be improving more.

View attachment 205180
View attachment 204742

And so, with an amazing start to the league season going unbeaten, another Champions League Knockout Round appearence, I felt it was time to leave. I had the choice, Aberdeen or Motherwell, with Motherwell throwing money at me I felt Aberdeen were the harder challenge and in that I accepted the job at the newly built, Aberdeen Stadium.

THE SQUAD

View attachment 205179
This is what the squad looks like. Now initially there are some glaring weakness, one of them being the fact we don’t have a right back. Ryan Jack is a wonderful player and can pull string in the middle of the park but will have to be played in defence until at least January where we can then access the squad again.
Our two best players are also loanees which doesn’t help massively. Moses Blackwell will be an absolute monster in the future and Carlos at age 22 could be snared off Dundee on a free at the end of the year, fingers crossed.

KEY PLAYERS

MOSES BLACKWELL
So other than our two loan stars we have some of our own fairly decent talent. Here’s a look at just some of our key players that will have to perform well if we are to avoid relegation.

RYAN JACK

View attachment 205172

At 27 years-of-age Jack has spent his whole professional footballing career here at Aberdeen. A great player for this level of football and is just starting to come into the best part of his career. He’ll initialy have to fill the void at right back for now but once we strengthen he’ll be deployed as our box to box midfielder.
GREAME SHINNIE

View attachment 205171

Another player who is in the best part of his career, Shinnie moved from Inverness in 2015 on a free transfer. He’s a leader of the squad and the club captain, I’ll be relying on him to be both a defensive stopper and attacking outlet down the left hand side.
RYAN FRASER

View attachment 205173

A Scottish talent that moved to England touted as the next big thing. Sadly after showing promising signs for Bournemouth in the Championship, Fraser was never given the chance at the highest level of English football and moved back to his boyhood club, Aberdeen, two years ago. At 25, he still could grow and hopefully be a menace for other sides on the right wing.
JAMIE ALLEN
View attachment 205167

An obvious trend is starting to repeat here, our best players are midfielders. Jamie Allen has been outstanding for Aberdeen over the past three years and with an eye for a pass, he’ll be sure to pick out assist after assist for us this season.
CAMMY SMITH

View attachment 205174

A player I believe will be key if we are to survive promotion this year. A player who always had the potential to play for Aberdeen and now at 24 needs to show fans he’s the real deal. Has always struggled with consistency and injury, I’ll be hoping he can stay out of the physio room and on the park for us.

THE SITUATION

View attachment 205178
The situation is bleak to say the very least and to be honest, I have no idea why I took the job. 16 looses, only 1 win, I think I’ve got to pull a rabbit out of a hat here.

TARGETS

SPL: Avoid Relegation at all costs.
SCOTTISH CUP: Reach the Quarter Finals
SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP: N/A
EUROPE: N/A

It’s that simple. Our main aim for the year is to survive. We don’t care about what the football looks like, we just need to get results and fast otherwise I might be without a job soon.

INDEX

So here I have it, my next Scottish challenge. Aberdeen are a club stuck in the mediocrity of Scottish Football and obviously it's my job to improve not only the squad and the results but the all-round running of the club.

Till next time!

LEAGUE NEWS

Celtic out of Europa League Group Stages, while Rangers play Sporting Lisbon in the 1st Knockout Round.

Rangers sack Ricardo Moniz due to poor league position.

I’ve been gone one Transfer Window and Dundee already sell two assets of mine, but drop an absolute Transfer Deadline day bombshell.

Motherwell appointed Partick Thistle’s Callum Davidson who in turn appointed their ex-manager Alan Archibald.

TRANSFERS

Scott Fraser was plying his trade for amateur side, Queen’s Park. A guy who moved south for the money but couldn’t hold down a starting spot at Brentford. He’s back home hopefully to stay.

Needed a bit of cover on the wings, he’s serviceable and on not much money. Touted as a Scottish talent but never came of anything. Celtic let him rot without game time and hopefully he can show the crowds a little bit of that potential he may still have.

RESULTS

So after going fifteen matches without a win, I’ve come in and steadied the ship. Nine matches unbeaten and into the next round of the cup. I said from the beginning this squad wasn’t half bad, they just needed someone with a bit of tactical sense and fresh ideas!

SPL TABLE

View attachment 205062
We sat at the bottom of the table with one win, one draw and sixteen losses, fourteen points from 11th. A couple of months later and we’ve made up the ground and look to push on for a mid-table finish. Dundee look the goods still but seem to be drawing rather than winning. On the other side of Dundee, United also look like taking a European place.

KEY PLAYER

PAUL PAWLETT

Paul Pawlett has been in magnificent form of late, producing 4 assist and 2 goals with a 7.74 average rating. He’s 29 now and not getting any younger, so it’s nice to see him performing because I don’t think he’s got much more in the tank to be honest.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

So, Dundee sell off arguably their best player for £4.6mil and then their captain for £9.5mil. Surely you’d be able to get more money than that for such outstanding players!

What was most surprising was the transfer of 22 year-old Borja Mayoral for a whopping £30.5mil. It’s a massive coup for Scottish Football, but it’s a lot of money that could have been used for Wonderkids rather than a Real Madrid reject.

OTHER NEWS

The only recently finished Aberdeen Stadium will be expanded to 23,171, which is great for the club but with only £2mil in the coffers we've had to ask for a loan which isn't ideal.

Good job with Aberdeen! :) Dundee did buy Calum Chambers too not too bad window...

I've been loosely following this for a while but this is great mate. Nice concept and the presentation is top notch - well done!

Thanks mate, hope you continue to enjoy!

ok i did not see that coming with the move to aberdeen..but good luck i'm sure they'll be top of the league soon

Yes well, they were up against in and I almost felt obliged to help them fight relegation! Their squad isn't even that bad, it's probably better than the squad I initially had with Dundee!

Yes, I forgot to mention that! He's 25 now and didn't ever improve to become the player everyone thought he would but he's still a very good signing for a Scottish side.
