Port Vale 0-2 West Bromwich Albion

We were absolutely outclassed today. We were shown our way out of the Carling Cup by a very good West Brom side and Chris Brunt destroyed the Valiants today. This ends Daniel Oakes' hope of a good Carling Cup run this year.

Tranmere 0-1 Port Vale

This was a very close game here today at Prenton Park and Rhys Murphy's goal for newly promoted Port Vale proved enough. This continues Vale's great run in the league and the team that were highly expected to be fighting relegation are up there in the top few.

Port Vale 0-1 Swindon

This result today certainly does not reflect on how the game went. Port Vale had many chances but failed to convert and the Lee Peacock goal proved to be the difference. Manager Daniel Oakes is believed to be very disappointed with not at least getting a draw at home to a team not cnsidered to be one of the stronger in the division.

Port Vale 0-2 MK Dons

Milton Keynes Dons were the victors today in a very even match at Vale Park. First half goals from Sean O'Hanlon and an own goal by Anyon sealed an away win for the Dons which could have so easily been different as Vale fans are moaning at the lack of firepower up front. These two games are the first and second defeats for Port Vale in League One this season and it will be interesting to ee if they can bounce back away to Brighton next week.

Mid Season Update

After a very up and down half season from Port Vale, they find themselves in a steady 9th position in League One. I am pretty pleased with tis position as I knew that it would be much more difficult than League One. These are our results since you last knew of.

As you can see we suffered a big lull in form from October through December as we fell from the playoff places to a lowest position of 14th. We have lately though been able to build up a very good run of form with only one loss in the last few months.

Here is our squad:

I believe that we have a very good squad at the minute with the likes of Gael Kakuta and Adel Taarabt in the team on loan from premier league clubs. I think that we have a good chance to push on for those playoff places if we continue playing how we have for the past month and a half.

Main Players:

Gael has been fantastic for us so far keeping Daniel Pacheco out of the side much to his dismay. Gael has playe 10 games for us in which he has scored 6 goals and has built up an average rating of 7.31. Chelsea will be wanting him back at this rate!

When these two players have been fit they have formed a formidable partnership in the solid back four of the Valiants. Ritchie De Laet has kept an average rating of 7.29 over 20 games which is very good and he has stopped attackers many times this season. Whitbread has been nearly as impressive. The former Liverpool starlet has built up an average rating of 7.17 and when partnered with Ritchie it will take a good attacking line to score goals past us. We will need to have these two fit if we are to continue our quest for the Championship.

January Update

After going into the new year in a very promising 9th place, I believe we have a very strong squad capable enough of getting one of these playoff places. I am delighted to announce that in form attacking midfielder Gael Kakuta will be joining us on loan for an extra 6 months. Here are our results for January.

Port Vale 2-0 Carlisle Kakuta(2)

MOM- Gael Kakuta 8.7

I am very happy with this win to kick off the new year. We always looked goo in this game and Kakuta justified our performance with a great display, bagging two goals for the Valiants.

Gillingham 0-5 Port Vale Topp(3), Taylor-Fletcher(2)

MOM- ***** Topp 9.4

I am absolutely delighted with this emphatic win! I thought that this was a very winabble game but I did not expect it to be this easy! This was our greatest performance since I have been in charge and I am proud of the team performance today.

Walsall 2-1 Port Vale Topp

This was a hard loss to take after our great game against Gillingham especially after we took the lead. We lead 1-0 at half time but the team got complacent and I am very disappointed to lose our lead and not get a point from a winning position.

Port Vale 3-1 Tranmere Topp(2), Kakuta

MOM- ***** Topp 8.3

I am pleased that we got back to winning ways against Tranmere today. We were much the better team and deserved our win. I was very pleased with another good performance from ***** Topp.

Swindon 2-2 Port Vale Kakuta, Topp

MOM- Ritchie De Laet 7.5

I am pleased with an away draw today. Swindon are a good side in this division and it was always going to be a tough game to win. I thought the worst when former Valiant Billy Paynter took the lead for Swindon after just five minutes but after that we equaled them and it was a fair result for both teams.

Port Vale 3-0 Exeter Topp(2), Kakuta

MOM- ***** Topp 8.5

This was another great game from our boys today. We took it to them from the off and took the lead after just six minutes. After that we never looked back and went on to secure a comfortable win.

League Table

At the end of January, this is how the table stands:

View attachment 33808

I am very proud of our league position so far this season. We are playing very well at the minute and if we keep playing like this, it will only get better and we could be playing Championship football before long.

Player of the Month

View attachment 33818

***** Topp has been awarded the official Coca League One player of the month award for January. I am delighted for ***** and no-one deserves this award more than him as he scored nine goals in just six games in the league and was man of the match in three of those six games.

Young player of the month

View attachment 33819

In addition to Topps award, on loan midfielder Gael Kakuta has won the Coca Cola League One young player of the month for January. Kakuta has been in great form for us this season with eleven goals in sixteen appearances and an average rating of 7.44 which is very good.

Kakuta has been in brilliant form on loan at Port Vale this season.
