End of Season Update

The last time I reported to you, we were sitting in 9th place in the league at the end of January. This is how the rest of the season went.

I am very pleased with our position of 8th place in our first season back in League One. We were unlucky to not get in a better position as we were 4th heading into March but a few bad results in a tough run of fixtures sent our playoff hopes up in smoke. With a couple more signings to strengthen us up in depth, we will be challenging for the league next season. Here is our squad:

Key Players

We have had some top performers for us this year and they have been:

Gael Kakuta has been fantastic for us this season since he joined us in November. He managed to score fifteen goals in twenty seven games and achieved an average rating of 7.24. I am very happy with Gael and will be looking to loan him again next season.

***** has once again been very good this season. After suffering from a poor start to the season where he was left out of a few games because of poor form, he came back when I gave him a new role in attack as a poacher and I am very happy that he returned with twenty four goals for the season.

Ritchie has once again been a rock at the back for the club. His partnership with Zak Whitbread has been one of the best defensive partnerships in the league this season when they were paired up. I will hope that Manchester United will let us loan him out for a third season in a row as I am sure he would love to come back here and play another season at Vale Park.

Other News

In March Port Vale were taken over by their director Chris Martin. It was revealed that former Chairman Bill Bratt had lost his love for the club and would be more than glad to loosen his reigns of the Midlands club. Unfortunately for manager Daniel Oakes, two days after the takeover Martin announced to him that there would be no investment in the near future. Oakes will be hoping that Martin can get his chequebook out of his pocket for the new League One season in 2011/2012.

Glad to see things are still going well Dan. Please find a new skin asap though :(

Hehe thanks Kris I think this one is alright! But if you will follow if I change it I will change it!

You can do it mate. Once you get to the Championship youll be able to get some good frees.

Chucho like frees?

By the way did you get my PM dan?

Pre-Season

Here are the results in our friendlies ahead of our 2011/12 League One season.

I am very happy with our performances in our friendlies this month. I allowed our new assistant take control of them all as his first call of duty and I am very impressed with the team, pulling off victories over Premiership and Championship opposition. I will not get too carried away though as they are only for fitness and they do not really matter.

I have been given a massive transfer budget of £0 this year by the new chairman. Hopefully we will be able to capture a few bargains in the free and the loan market.

Transfers Update

ZakWhitbreadMillwall_1218373.jpg

I am very sad to announce that we have come to terms on the sale of Zak Whitbread to Reading for £950K. Zak was a great player for us and I am upset by his departure but he just saw us as a stepping stone in his career and he wanted to leave so if I were to keep him, he would have been unhappy so I seized the opportunity and this got rid of our debt and we are now £800K on the positive which is great news.

In other news we have agreed to take Gael Kakuta and Ritchie De Laet on loan deals for another season. I am delighted to have these lads on board again and am sure that they will do a great job again. I have decided that we will not be taking Daniel Pacheco on loan this season. Daniel has been on loan with us for the first two years of my reign but he failed to get as many first team games last season after the arrival of Gael Kakuta and I believe that he would have only been backup this season. Hopefully we will be making a few more deals in the coming weeks.

Great deals in Kakuta and De Laet. I have signed both and both of them were top players. Good luck in your new season and loving the layout mate. :)

New Arrivals announced at Vale Park

After the shock derparture of Zak Whitbread from Vale Park just a couple of days ago, manager Daniel akes has moved swiftly with the excess wage budget to find his replacement as well as four more signings.

Alex John-Baptiste has arrived at Vale Park today and Daniel Oakes believes he will be a more than suitable replacement for Zak Whitbread.''Alex is a great signing for us and I believe that he will step straight into the centre back role and make it his own. He is also very young and is a player for the future of the club''. The centre back joins Vale after leaving Blackpool on a free transfer in the summer.

Yesterday Nathan Eccleston arrived at Vale Park on a free transfer after he was released by Liverpool in the summer. ''I believe Nathan will be very good for us. I don't think he is ready for first team football yet but he is only 20 and in a couple of years, I am sure he will be good enough to step into our first team''.

article-1202966-05E279A7000005DC-777_468x415.jpg

I am delighted to announce the loan signing of Fabio Daprela for the season. ''Our best left back Iiro Aalto is now 33 and is getting towards the end of his career and I believe that Fabio is perfect to fill in at our weakest position. He will be great for us this season''.

We are also happy to welcome Callum McManaman on a season long loan from Wigan. Wigan are our feeder club and offered Callum out to us on loan and I could hardly refuse as he is very talented and will challenge for the first team spots this year.

The other signing I have made this window is 18 year old central midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe. Ryan was released from Manchester United not long ago and I believe he will be a great player for the future of this club. I think he is in a similar mould to current midfielder Sam Hewson and if he plays like Sam, I will not complain.

August

Port Vale have drawn Accrington Stanley in the Carling Cup first round to be played at Vale Park. We started the new league season with a tricky game away to Gillingham in the league. Lets see how Vale went on.

Gillingham 0-4 Port Vale Taylor-Fletcher, Kakuta, Hewson, Jarrett

MOM- Sam Hewson 8.7

WOW! I am absolutely delighted with this start to the new league season. We came out in strong fashion and showed how much we were up for it this season. I expected this to be a tough game but we came out firing and were fantastic.

Carling Cup 1st Round

Port Vale 1-0 Accrington Topp

I am very happy to get through to the next round of the Carling Cup. We were much the better team and deserved to win by a larger margin. Their goalkeeper had a great game and picked up the man of the match award for frustrating us for most of the game. We will now play Sunderland in the next round at home.

League One

Port Vale 3-0 Brighton John-Baptiste, Kakuta, Magnay

MOM- Carl Magnay 8.1

This was another very good win for the lads. We took the lead relatively early and never looked back. Magnay was great today, holding the defensive line together and also getting a goal for himself.

Doncaster 3-2 Port Vale Topp, Taylor-Fletcher

I am upset with our display today. We went 3-0 down in the game and never looked to challenge their defence. We got two late goals at the end but that was when the game was already lost. I will look to address our defensive issues before the next game.

Port Vale 3-1 Charlton Hewson, Murphy, Topp

MOM- Rhys Murphy 7.9

We were back to Vale Park and back to winning ways. This was a great performance from the boys today and they impressed me to no end. Charlton were a good Championship side not to long ago and we beat them easily.

Carling Cup 2nd Round

Port Vale 2-2 Sunderland (Sunderland win 5-3 on penalties) Taylor, Magnay

One word, HEARTBROKEN. I was absolutely devastated when Callum missed that penalty that effectively sent us crashing out of the Carling Cup. I am proud of our performance today. We played a decent Premier League side today and matched them comfortably. Today's game showed me personally, just how far this club can go. Every man on our side today had a great game and they should be proud of themselves. I feel for Callum as he will want the world to swallow him up right now. I am confident he will recover from this.

League One

Luton 1-3 Port Vale Hewson(2), Magnay

MOM- Sam Hewson 8.7

After our emotional Carling Cup exit in mid week, we needed to bounce back with a win in the League. We did the job today at promoted Luton and played very well in doing so. I was particularly impressed with Sam Hewson. He caused their defenders mayhem and came away with two goals and the match ball, much to his delight.

League Table

I am very happy to the start we have made to the new season. We stand at the top of the table looking down on the rest with four wins out of five. I hope we can continue our form for the rest of the season and we will be in the Championship with no problem

Player of the Month

samhewson.jpg

Sam has been in fantastic form this month and deserves this award. The former Manchester United man lead by example this month with a string of great performances and long may it continue. His good performances lead to him achieving four goals and five assists in seven games this month leading to an average rating of 7.51. I am very surprised no-one has tried to poach him yet but I am very happy as I would like to keep him at Vale for many years to come.
