This is my best season on FM13 so far. I just use the new versions of COMBO tactics from 1st January, which means I even can win the title if use them all season, hehe (H)

Now I will update my OP, especially the Manual guide, the pep talk and Shout instruction

Just had the first match where I tried literally everything and nothing worked......started with the 2 combo away and wound up using 3 combo just to try and score a goal. They dominated me. Bear in mind, I've faced teams like Ajax with my newly promoted team and have done very well and been competitive.

This match however was a disaster. The only thing I didn't do was OI their 3 man midfield. Maybe this will help next time. Other than that, for once, I'm stumped as to what to do!

They used a 4-1-3-2 all game and looking at the average positions analysis, their defence was literally as high up as the middle circle!

Short of pinging the ball over the top, I have no idea what I could have done here. Every single problem I could have had I had! Losing possession too easily, wingers ineffective, opposition breaking way way too many times towards my defence.

All this from a team who wasn't on form particularly....was below me in the table. Can't work it out.

Hi mcbgun,

Please do not get too upset, as losing is a part of the game. Please check if your wingers are good in crossing, dribbling, and pace. And please tell me how many chances your opponent have had, and how they have scored? Crossing, dribbling, playing through, or Long shot?

Anyway, most of the Away matches, even against some weak teams, possession is not important that much. I mean do not expect to boss the middle field with a Counter tactic. If you can force the opponent to waste their chances by off-target Long shots, and you successfully score with even less chances, this is how it works for 2COMBO.
 
Actually I rarely switch between 2COMBO and 3COMBO during a match. Too many changes may mess me up, I think. Please consider gradually change, use just a few shout a time, and see how the changes work.

And you may Look for overlap if the Wingers cannot cross even they reach the byline.

Oh and I remember you tell me yesterday result is better. So maybe simple is the key for your team hehe, maybe reduce the literal try you mentioned above ?

Lol....nah I'm not upset....just a bit miffed!

They scored one from a corner, one from a deepish cross after a corner was headed out of the area and one from a byline cross after their ridiculously high line won the ball on the half way line.

Looking at the highlights, they were pressing me to death. My players had no space or time on the ball.

I did however deploy a set of shouts against my next opponents who were also dominating me a little....

Well my suggestion is that you my try Defend set-piece training before your next Away match. And may be set up your Defend set piece setting a bit. It will be very difficult to play Counter if your team conceded 2 goals and is put under the pressure to score at that time.

And do not rely on Shout much. Just start the match with Work ball into box. Shout should be used later when you have defined the match situation.

Combo 3 not working quite as i want m8, too many midfield errors. will continue to test, but the team is not agressive in the mid to get the ball back, leaving the defenders exposed

Well, make sure you make a quick look on Player type suggestion for COMBO tactics I wrote. MCL is like a BWN and MCR is like a DPL. And Wingers should be quick, dribble well and good crosser to support these 2 middle guys.

And yeah, you're right, 3COMBO now is more calm. Because it is now the situation that we will use 3COMBO for a season long. I don't want my players to take the risk of pushing higher up for every matches they play, so I put 3COMBO's strategy to: Standard. As the way we play COMBO tactic is changing the tactic, I suggest you to increase it to Attack in matches where you want the midfield to be more aggressive.

I have find out that in my save game, sometimes Standard is even better in term of Attacking, the ball will take more time on the middle field and then quickly brought forward.

Anyway, keep me posted, mate

You ask me? Default ones mate. There is a few matches I use FMC skin but it is not comfortable enough since it's difficult to view the rating when pre-match choosing formation

Attack is not the issue. The problem is defending the wings. I will tell you my 1st eleven so you can see:
Gea, Walker, JOnes, regen and regen again. McCarthy and Wilshere, Walcott, Neymar, Bale and Rooney.

Also, combo 2 works fine

Great mate, a promising squad to look foward into future?

If you face the wings defending things mate, have you try reducing Close down for FBs for 2-3 knots? Let's see how this work ;)

And also, give a try to my OI instruction. This prevents opponent's wing attack very efficiently for me.

Unfortunately my everton save corrupted and broke down so I did not get to finish the season. But from the results I have found that this these tactics work extremely well. I used combo1 combo3 and amazing amc by raikan throughout the season. I would use combo1 and 3 at home depending who I was against and combo 3 and amazing amc away from home. Combo 3 is much more stable than combo1 but I seem to dominate opponents with combo 1 on control and attacking and standard. I had the EPl comfortably wrapped up with around 3 games to go. I had 32 wins and one loss and one draw which is fantastic. Ademilson had a 60 goal season after playing around 45-50 games. I personally cannot use combo2 with a top team that is able to dominate every game. I will probably use combo 2 with my new save.

also I see that you are on Fms scouting network :).

Also who should I manage in Italy France or Germany with around 4 to 5 million

Hi birdman2002,

Sorry to hear that. Hope that you will get the game playing again soon.

What are your best Eleven? With 32 win/ 35 matches is a really good result, which I myself did not reach when using Man Utd.

Actually I just start playing FM since 2012, not a veteran in this field though:D. At that time, I know nothing about this game and Darren and his colleagues with FMS site had helped me a lot. Amazing works from these guys. I have never seen a better scouting network though, very specific detail. So far now they even be better.

If you want some challenges maybe OM? the 2 Ayew guys (not sure if they are brothers) should adapt well for COMBO tactics hehe. Btw, It should be your favorite for your choice. I myself like Leeds Utd very much, although I am Vietnamese, and actually Leeds Utd is a high reputation old club.

*By 1COMBO, do you mean 2COMBO. I have removed 1COMBO for a while though
