Signings Galore and a Priceless Pre-season

With a reported mere £7'500'000 in the kitty for new manager Hoddle, some nifty dealings in the transfer market would certainly be required to bring in some fresh talent.

Romelu Lukaku :-

Romelu pens Spurs deal

Former Anderlecht youngster Romelu Lukaku, was officially presented as a Tottenham Hotspur player on Wednesday, where he will continue to wear his traditional No. 14 jersey.

The ever scoring 16-year-old was presented at White Hart Lane having successfully passed an obligatory medical exam.

According to reports, the youngster from Belgium cost Spurs £5million + £5million in monthly installments over the subsequent 48 months. With 14 goals in 31 games in a senior league at the age of 16, Lukaku is thought to have a massive future ahead of him in the game and despite the rather large pricetag on the young teenager, Spurs manager Hoddle was thought to be very focused on fending off the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid to get his signature. A member of the Tottenham fanbase had this to say,

"We are all very happy with the signing and impressed with Hoddle for looking to the future as well as the present. I think that the price paid for the teen looks large but in reality we all feel its a coup for the club given the future the lad holds ahead of him" - Roy Tarwick, Tottenham fan

Marek Hamsik :-

Hamsik shows the passion he vows to show at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have signed youngster Hamsik from Italian outfit Napoli for a reported fee of around £27.5 million - with £17.5 million being paid in monthly installments over the next 4 years. The signing of the 22-year-old was followed by an outburst by some fans over the extortionate price paid for the midfielder as a spokesperson for the official supporters' club told the Sun newspaper that the ex-Napoli central midfielder is not deemed worthy of such an inflated transfer fee and many believe Glenn Hoddle has paid over the odds for the paper.

In a press conference in London, when Hoddle was posed with this statement he responded in a confident manner saying that,

"Although it may seem like alot of money at the present moment in time, the money payed will certainly pay off. I have mega faith in the players ability and he is sure to become a Premiership star in years to come." Glenn Hoddle

Yoann Gourcuff :-

Gourcuff was bought by Tottenham for an undisclosed fee (which is thought to be around the region on £17.5million - £7.5 million of that in monthly installments). The fans were overjoyed with this signing as the Frenchman is playing with such high ability already and with an even bigger potential to reach. He is thought to be the perfect replacement for playmaker Luka Modric.

Alessandro Gamberini :-

Glenn Hoddle has bolstered his defence with resilient Italian centre-back Alessandro Gamberini. The 27-year-old is an Italian footballer who played for ACF Fiorentina in the Italian first division, as a central defender and is thought to resume that role at Tottenham Hotspur. The question remains however, who will partner him to from the strucks of the defensive line? Gamberini was brought into the club in a straight swap deal with out-of-favour central midfielder Jermaine Jenas being sent the other way. This was thought to be an outstanding deal by the manager; trading deadwood from the squad for new talent that is surely only going to help the club move onwards and upwards.

Roberto Soldado :-

imgRoberto%20Soldado1.jpg

The 24-year-old spaniard was brought in from Spainish side Getafe for a fee of around £8.5million. The board are thought to be very pleased with this signing as he is someone who can bring a constant goal threat to the opposition. Manager Hoddle told the Daily Star,

"I have been a fan of Roberto for a long time and i am delighted to finally be working with him!" Glenn Hoddle

Joe Cole :-

Englishman Cole was brought in on a free having not had his contract at London rivals Chelsea renewed. This capture is thought to be a massive coup for the club, bringing in a player of Joe's calibre for nothing. The 27-year-old is an established England player and is thought to be a great option on the wings for Hoddle.

Michael Ballack :-

Another former Chelsea player brought in for nothing and also another established Internationalist, being the Captain for his home country Germany. Despite Michael's age he is still thought to be a great addition to the squad, giving Hoddle more options and more strength in depth than prior to the signing.

Jaroslav Drobný :-

dogby.png

Yet another magnificent capture by the manager bringing in a world class goalkeeper on a free. Former Hertha player Drobný is thought to be fantastic back-up for Gomes, or perhaps will take up the role in the number one jersey at White Hart Lane.

Total spending : £33'500'000 & £30'000'000 in monthly installments over the next four years.

The board are reportedly concerned about the loans having been taking out in order to bring in new faces but Hoddle has ensured the board he will bring success to the club and he has also guaranteed European football next season, which is sure to pay of these debts with TV revenue and the sale of more tickets at home games.

Benoît Assou-Ekotto :-

Despite being a talented player Hoddle saw there already being sufficient players to fill the same role as Assou-Ekotto and didn't see Benoît in his plans. The player was sold to English side Birmingham. Despite the managers reluctance to sell to teams in the same league and Tottenham, the £7'000'000 fee was too good for the manager to turn down.

Luka Modric :-

This was a very hard decision for the manager to make with Luka being key to the teams success so far, but the offer of £25'000'000 from Manchester City was too good an offer to turn down. The club would like to thank Modric for his services and wish him all the best at Manchester City(not).

Total income : £32'000'000, with the bulk coming from the sale of Modric.

It is thought that the manager's spending spree is over but Hoddle has announced he still may look to offload a few more players including out-of-favour stiker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Match Report

Peter Crouch was back on the goal trail as Spurs opened pre-season with a 2-0 win against Raith Rovers at Stark's Park on Saturday.

Pacey winger Aaron Lennon was also on the scoresheet as Hoddle's side dominated against the Scottish Division One side, despite the relativelylow score.

Glenn Hoddle opted to go with different teams in each half. Young professionals Calum Butcher, Romelu Lukaku, John Bostock, Dean Parrett, Ryan Mason and Obika were included in the first half team, which also saw a welcome return to action for goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

Match Report

Another seemingly ordinary performance in Scotland from the topflight English outfit. Fourteen minutes in a short corner led to Yoann Gourcuff taking aim at goal and Niko Kranjcar applying a close quarters finish, but despite the strike was chalked off by the flag of the assistant referee, the man in the middle over-ruled and the goal was given. That was pretty much the only interesting passage of the game and from then on in Tottenham dominated all aspects of the game.

Match Report

It might have been a young squad but eight of the starting XI had league experience and included the likes of Obika, Adel Taarabt, Ryan Mason and Danny Rose, which proved enough to see off the League One outfit. Newbie signing Roberto Soldado also made his Tottenham debut in stunning fashion proving to the fans why he was brough here, scoring five goals on his first appearance for the club. Hoddle used this match to give all the players a run out and also to try a new formation which is thought to be kept following this result.

Match Report

Another away game and another stern performance from the lads. With Hoddle delighted with the previous result, he opted to go for the same formation and has witnessed deja vu with another 6-1 drubbing of the lower league English side. Soldado again put in a good performance, getting on the scoresheet at the same, and Peter Crouch scored a brace to get the team truely rolling. A magnificent team performance from Michael Ballack, at the heart of absolutely everything saw him awarded with a bottle of champagne and the Man of the Match award.

All in all a good pre-season for Tottenham Hotspur under new manager Glenn Hoddle with some good preformances and everyone getting some game time under their belt.

*Player of pre-season would have to go to Niko Kranjcar for his consistency through-out.

*Top Goalscorer of pre-season goes to Roberto Soldado. Despite only playing in two matches after his transfer went through the player still bagged himself 6 goals.

Hoddle, We Have Lift Off!

Yay! The opening day for the 2009-10 Premier League season has commenced. And all around the world football fans have been rubbing their hands, for the past 3 months or so, with glee at the thought of their team playing on the opening day of the new season.

Opening day, Saturday 15th August, saw 27 goals being scored and multiple cards being brandished - blatently an attempt by the referee's of the game showing their authority from the word go. An early upset of the campaign saw big spenders Manchester City being held to a 1 - 1 draw by resilient Wigan at the DW Stadium.

A good start to the season from Hoddle's team against a strong Everton side. Not only did young scarlet Danny Rose put in a masterclass display in the midfield but also stole Spurs the three points here today with a 30-yard sreamer late on . An injury early in the second half to new signing Joe Cole was a blow to the team but they battled on regardless to get the win.

First away of the season for Tottenham saw them handle the pressure with ease coming away from Ewood Park with a comfortable 2 - 0 victory and all three points.

England hopeful Bentley celebrates a goal at Ewood

A disastrous start saw the man between the sticks for Blackburn, Paul Robinson, spill the ball into his own net following a powerfully struck shot from French playmaker Yoann Gourcuff. David Bentley all but sealed the points for the away side 14 minutes from time with a sweetly struck freekick into the top right-hand corner of Robinson's net. Despite not getting on the scoresheet today, homegrown striker Peter Crouch put in an impressive performance, being at the heart of all attacking play and grabbing himself the Man of the Match award.

Another game on the road for Tottenham saw the boys travel to St. Andrews for a tough fought encounter.

Despite going two goals up through a superb stike from Hamsik, struck from outside the box, and a glancing headerfrom new defender Gamberini, Birmingham battled back with an outstanding 35-yard freekick from Sebastian Larsson and countinued to hit Spurs on the counter attack. Hoddle's side managed to weather the late storm from the men in blue to hold onto a 2 - 1 lead and another valuable 3 points.

Match Report

The final league game of the month saw Tottenham take on Fulham at White Hart Lane. Despite dominating through-out, Fulham took a first half lead through Erik Nevland. Half time saw Hoddle go in knowing something had to be done, full domination of the game but a goal down. The manager gave the lads an inspirational team talk and shoke things up a bit with a new formation and the introduction of playmaker Wilson Palacios and Jermain Defoe. The manager was off his seat for the whole of the second have and when Defoe scored he struggled to contain his joy, running onto the pitch, only to be hauled back by the forth official. Another goal soon followed from Defoe again and the manager was surely to be named the mastermind behind the win by making the risky half-time changes. After the game Hoddle had this to say,

images

"Jermain was just phenomenal for us today and has booked his place in the starting XI for the next game for sure!" - Glenn Hoddle

carling.png

In a press conference prior to Tottenham Hotspur's 2nd round Carling Cup tie away to Norwich, Glenn Hoddle vowed to take the Arsene Wenger approach and to use the cup as an opportunity to field his young and upcoming talent. He also said it would be a chance for those who don't get much Premier League game time to fill in the gaps and prove why they should get there chance in the league.

Match Report

A slightly disappointing showing from the young lads only just scraping a win over the League 1 side. Hoddle, however, can take some possitives from the match, like an outstanding display from 16-year-old goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and a strong showing up top by lone stiker Lukaku.

* Spurs to play Man Utd at Old Trafford on Wednesday 23rd September in the 3rd round.

-> Tottenham's Danny Rose picks up August Young Player of the Month Award.

-> Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle also collects an award as he picks up Manager of the Month.
