Young Guns Dominate Devils!

84215000.png

With the first month of the 2009-10 Premier League season complete, the league sees Chelsea come out trumps and Tottenham narrowly behind after have a bright start to the season. Tottenham had a difficult opening to the month of September with a game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 12th. This was sure to be a juicy encounter for the neutrals with the Red Devils bookies favourites for the match.

Match Report

A very tough game away from home for Hoddle's men which proved, however, to be a very stern test for the hosts. Tottenham saw the majority of the possession through-out the match and more chances than the home side also - but failed to put them away. A disastrous start for the visitors saw Park Ji-Sung slip in behind the defence, in the second minute, to latch onto a Giggs through ball and slot the ball past Gomes for the opener. The nerves of the big occasion then settled for Hoddle's players and they fought back level with a powering header from Peter Crouch, who towered above the United defence. Spurs then dominated the game but a lapse in concentration saw Rooney skip past the right-back and get a shot on Gomes' net unchallanged, scoring the decisive goal. Despite the away side dominating the rest of the match, they failed to convert and the points went to the home side. A very possitive performance however and will surely please the manager.

Match Report

A brilliant team performance and a great bounce-back from heart-ache at Old Trafford. Peter Crouch continued his good form, showing good composure to slot the ball passed Carson when he found himself 1 vs 1 with the Albion keeper.

Crouch was then brought down inside the box, earning his side a valuable penalty kick - which was forcefully buried by play-maker Wilson Palacios to put the game out of reach for the visitors. Ledley King scored a header late on in the game to increase Spurs lead and all but win the 3-points for his team. A very confident showing from Hoddle's men which is sure to please the manager.

Match Report

The final league game of the month saw Tottenham travel to the DW Stadium. A good win for Hoddle's men in a tough away which saw Wigan, despite at home, park the bus and take a very defensive approach to the game. Young scarlet Danny Rose scored a powerful 30-yard drive early on in the match which all but sealed the points for Tottenham with Wigan reluctant to attack.

images

Rose celebrates wonder-stike with his teammates.

A very boring game in truth. Controversy late on, however, when Wigan's key man Maynor Figueroa saw a second yellow and was dismissed from the field of play. A strong performance at the heart of midfield from Palacios saw him earn himself the Man of the Match award.

In a post-match interview, Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle spoke the Daily Record newspaper. In response to a question asked regarding the manner in which Wigan approached the match Hoddle had this to say,

"In truth i find the defence approach taken by Wigan to be flattering! If they feel we are such an offensive threat that they have to park the bus at their home ground, that can only be a possitive for us and give confidence to our attacking players; knowing that they are feared by even strong teams in the fortress of their home-grounds!" Glenn Hoddle

In a press conference prior to Tottenham Hotspur's 3nd round Carling Cup tie away to league leaders Manchester United, Glenn Hoddle vowed to stick by his guns and field his younsters, despite United lining-up a full stength team. Hoddle stated that it was a big ask for the youngster's, even more so following the first teams defeat to the 'Red Devils' 10 days ago, but he also said that he had full faith in the lads and wished them well ahead of their game.

Match Report

WOW! Lost for words. Perhaps the come back of the century? Their was definately first-half nerves for the youngsters with the home side going in at the break two goals to the good, following stikes from Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney. An inspiring half time team talk saw Spurs come out a completely different side. The away team gave themselves a glimmer of hope with an early goal in the second half coming from the head of the only first team player to start in defence for Tottenham, Gamberini, as he met the ball from a curling corner whipped in from young wing-back Gareth Bale.

images

16-year-old Lukaku(the youngest player ever to play for Spurs, and to score for them for that matter) scored a late beauty, curled into the top left hand corner from the edge of the box. Tottenham then threw on some fresh, experienced faces, one of whom was United rival Michael Ballack, in an attempt to score a late winner. A gamble from the manager perhaps, but Hoddle didn't want to see the game go on any longer than necessary. A scramble in the United box in extra time saw substitute, Michael Ballack, poke in the ball from close range to win the match for the away team and confirm the teams advance into the next round.

After the match Tottenham manager Hoddle was over overwhelmed at the outcome of the match and lost for words. All he could say was,

"SUPERB!!!" Glenn Hoddle

Sky-Sports-Transfer-Center-800_2474516.jpg

The begining of the month saw Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle finalise a few deals on deadline day.

Alphonse Areola :-

images

A promising young 16-year-old goalkeeper, signed from Paris Saint-Germain for a mere £875'000. This is thought to be a great piece of dealing by the manager with the amount of potential the young lad has. Areola, only 16, has already seen first team football at the club, participating Carling Cup matches - finding himself up against World superstars like Wayne Rooney and Berbatov.

Dodo :-

images

Another one for the future here with Dodo, 17-years-old, signing from Corinthians for £2'500'000. The player will join the club on the 1st of July 2010. This is thought to be a large price to pay for such a young player but Dodo is tipped to be one of the world's best in his prime.

Kyle Walker :-

Young defender Kyle Walker accepted an offer to go back to his previous clun Sheffield United on loan. Despite being newly signed for Spurs, manager Hoddle couldn't see Kyle getting much first team game time this season and thought he would benefit more from weekly appearances at Sheffield.

Roman Pavlyuchenko :-

Despite having a good pre-season Hoddle couldn't see Roman in his first team plans atalll this season with the likes of Defoe, Crouch and Soldado already upfront and so decided to loan out want-away striker Pavlyuchenko to Spanish outfit Valencia for a fee of £725'000 with the option to buy at any time for an undisclosed fee.

Ben Alnwick :-

Another player Hoddle couldn't see getting any game time and said that he couldn't even see the young keeper getting a game in the reserves and had therefore loaned the player out to Nottingham Forest for the season. Despite being a hot prospect for the club it is thought the young keeper could be heading out the door at the end of the season following the arrival of the very promising 16-year-old Areola.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Spurs to play Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday 27rd October in the Carling Cup 4th round.

-> Tottenham's Gareth Bale comes second in September Young Player of the Month Award.

-> Club Player of the Month without-a-doubt goes to young attacking midfielder Danny Rose. The 19-year-old has secured his place in the starting line up and is one of Hoddle's first names on the team sheet each week. This young lad put in 100% every week at training and has very high, consistant performances every game! He has also scored a couple of very valuable goals for us, including the wonder-strike that saw us get all three points away to Wigan. What a month this young lad has had. Not far off his was in-form stiker Peter Crouch.

Glamorous Month for Glenn!

84215000.png

With two months of the 2009-10 Premier League season complete, the league sees the Red Devils now out front with Tottenham still sitting comfortably in second place. A home game against newly promoted Newcastle United to start the month would surely see a Tottenham win..... or would it?!

Match Report

A 5-star display for Tottenham to kick-start the month and lift spirits in the dressing room with the lads. An outstanding display from in form striker Jermain Defoe saw him take home the match ball and a bottle of champagne for his Man of the Match award.

bk39t.jpg

To say a bit of salt in the wounds at the end of the game would be an understatement! An injury to star striker Defoe in the 88' would see him out for months and see his team suffer greatly with himself and Roberto Soldado out leaving only Peter Crouch and 16-year-old Romelu Lukaku to do the business up the top for Spurs.

Brillaint! Another dominating display from the lads but even better this time out with the game being played away from home soil and live on Sky Sports 1. The manager will be thoroughly pleased with Peter Crouch, stepping up to the plate with two key stiker out injured, bagging himself two goals and MOM. Another injury was worrying for the manager, however, with Niko Kranjcar being led off by the club medics just before the half time whistle. It is thought however that there is more than capable back-up in the squad to replace him.

This time out Spurs played host to resilient team Stoke only to find themselves in more of a boxing match; with the referee struggling to control the game at times and yellow cards being handed out like sweets. The game also saw Spurs defender Bassong taking an early bath following his dismissal from the field with two yellow cards to his name. There were some possitives for Hoddle however with a stong win against a tough team and another classy display from Englishman Peter Crouch. Another possitive for the manager is the manner in which the first goal was scored; with about 17 passes being made before German captain, Michael Ballack, slipped Joe Cole through to place a curling shot into the top left hand corner. Ya Beauty!

Match Report

Not much to say about this game, a tough away game but nevertheless a disappointing result for Hoddle's men. The players were specifically told at the tactics meeting on the night prior to the match to mark Torres tightly and never to let him out of their sites but yet the Spaniard bagged both of the home team's goals. Fair play to the lad, though, Spurs couldn't handle him.

images

After the game Hoddle had this to say,

"I have to say fair play to Fernando. The young lad is a footballing genius and i can only admire his talents and dream of someday seeing him in the white Tottenham jersey showcasing what he stands for under the floodlights at White Hart Lane!" Glenn Hoddle

Tottenham Hotspur were to play Wolves, away from home, in the 4th round of the Carling Cup. On the face of the tie, it looks like an easy win for Spurs but with the gaffer adamant to showcase the clubs up and coming talent it could turn out to be harder than first expected.

Match Report

Incredible! With the youngsters blatently feeling the pressure, 3 goals down after a mere 33 minutes, Hoddle knew in his mind some had to be done! Although very reluctant to do so, as he had told the youngsters he had full faith in them and it was still early in the first half, the manager replaced two of the young lads(Parrett and Bostock) with experience in the form of Niko Kranjcar and Wilson Palacios. Hoddle also switched about the formation in hope of a change. Come half time the score line hadn't changed, although there had been a vast improvement in the play. At half time the manager swapped another youngster, Romelu Lukaku, for the experience of Soldado. Kranjcar scored early in the first after a fine piece of interplay with Soldado, giving the away side a glimmer of hope perhaps.

images

Kranjcar celebrates his 1st.

It may have taken a while but in the 68th minute Tottenham scored a second with a beautifully executed free-kick from flamboyant winger Joe Cole. The team then went to an overload style in an attempt to find an equaliser and complete the comeback. Spurs somehow found an equaliser through the foot of Roberto Soldado, coming with 10 minutes to spare. As both teams made a late attempt at winning the match the game became very stretched and truely exciting for the neutrals. With a stalemate at the end of 90 minutes to two sides found themselves going into extra time. Wovles made a few adjustments and brought on some fresh legs but unfortunately for Hoddle he had used his limit of three subs by the end of the first half. Early on in the first half of extra time, Wolves defender Stephen Ward carelessly saw a second yellow after protesting to the ref about an silly incident. Tottenham then continued to pile on the pressure and took advantage of the extra man, scoring the winner, with one minute left on the clock! An incredibly game to say the least! Also a fabulous performance from substitute Niko Kranjcar!

-> Tottenham's Peter Crouch picks up October Player of the Month Award.

-> Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle also joined in on the act, winning manager or the month.

-> Danny Rose comes second in the October Young Player of the Month for his efforts.

-> Club Player of the Month undoubtedly goes to England stiker Peter Crouch for his outstanding performances and for stepping up to the plate when his club needed him most! An excellent month for the forward. Crouch also got his fair share of goals this month, some of which won very valuable points for his club. Niko Kranjcar comes second following a superb month for himself, the highlight of which had to be him single-handedly winning the 4th round Carling Cup tie against Wolves.

A tough away game to start the month which was to prove an entertaining game for the neutrals and a stern test for either side, which Tottenham came out victors. A goal either side of half time for Spurs from Ballack and Soldado respectively was enough to see off, up and coming England star, James Milner's outstanding performance and goal a minute after the half-time break.

The sending off of Arsenal midfielder, Eboue, only ten minutes later saw Tottenham control the rest of the game with ease. Match Report

Tottenham ended the game with a fantastic win over sorry Chelsea. The champions visit to the league leaders at White Hart Lane was built up to be a truely juicy encounter and didn't fail to deliver with 6 goals and all the action a football fan could ask for. An early red card for Chelsea talisman Frank Lampard set the tone for the game and allowed the home side to dominate the game with the man advantage and quickly take full advantage of the situation, scoring a mere five minutes after the incident with Jermain Defoe rounding the keeper and putting the ball into the empty net.

bk39t.jpg

Defoe celebrates opener

Chelsea's Saurez leveled the match ten minutes before half time only for Defoe to step up for his brace and give Spurs the lead again just before the half time whistle with a lovely passing move ending with a placed shot by Jermain into the bottom corner. Spurs then fully controlled the game for the whole of the second half, scoring two more goals in the process including a penalty casually dispatched by Ballack and a powering header from Soldado just before the end of the game.

A very convincing win for the manager and many positives to take from the match however Hoddle will be getting increasingly worried with yet another injury on the table and this time its a long term injury to goal machine Defoe. The injury is seen to be that bad that a date for return could not be confirmed.
