THE POND OF UNCERTAINTY?
It is now January time but before the second derby game between the Mariners and Imps more pressing matters are at hand now for Grimsby Town. On-loan star Nathan Pond is set to leave the club following his loan-spell at Grimsby from Fleetwood Town. Nathan Pond has been pivotal so far this season with his impressive form with 23 appearences, 7 goals and 3 assists. On paper, this may not deemed to be impressive but the loan star has flourished in the last 2 months and will surely be missed if he does leave Grimsby. Only time will tell if he will leave the club or not, but for the club's promotion hopes.. surely the club will retain his services or maybe it will not be up to the mariners or not.. only time will tell. (Find out what happens in the JANUARY UPDATE)

JOE COLBECK RETURNS FROM TRINITY

Joe Colbeck was yesterday re-called by Grimsby boss Dan Crowther following a 7-game spell which resulted in him scoring 1 goal and making 1 assist, Mariners boss Crowther had this to say in a recent interview; 'Joe has done what was expected, gain match fitness to put it simple. I'm also glad that his confidence will now slightly be on the up as he helped Trinity sustain their top spot in the blue square north.' Colbeck is now expected to go straight onto the bench for the upcoming derby against Lincoln as Scott Neilson is apparantly struggling in fitness at the moment as Dan Crowther said; 'Yes, he is struggling a little in the fitness unit. This league is tough with fitness as you often face 2 games per week and that's why depth and rotation is important and i'm sure that'll be the case between Scott and Joe for upcoming games'.

nice to see u picking up ur form keep it up and league two here u come

JANUARY UPDATE

It is a big relief that we beat the bottom side following it being 2-1 to us for most of the match with them pressurising us often. (Scorers: Hearn X2, Miller) (MOTM: Hearn) (Att: 2,003) (Note: One of the goals was Hearns 50th at GTFC, well done Liam!)

CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2-0 GRIMSBY TOWN (FA TROPHY 4TH ROUND)

It would be an understatement to say that this performance was disappointing, anyway dumped out of the FA trophy and now we have the league to concentrate on.. even though it's going to be a dismal showing from us in the league as we are rubbish .. Oh and Hearn is out for 2-3 weeks.. great. (Att: 2,037)

CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

Cambridge beat us again, Elding scored and then got sent off.. typical really.. alot of work needed on this squad next season to get in the playoffs.. (Scorer: Elding) (Sent off: Elding) (Att: 2,054)

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

Scott Neilson

Scott has been consistently good this month and has looked very threatening on the right flank of the pitch in most games.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

Andy Cook

Andy was brilliant as he came back into the squad and scored 4 goals in 3 games and fully deserves player of the month but everyone did play brilliant but superb mentality from Andy in a bid to win his place back in the squad.

THOUGHTS

Generally, i believe if we can keep this current run of form up we could end up sneaking into the play-offs but the players need to keep consistent and their mentality high for the run-in of the games.

CROWTHER WINS MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Grimsby Town boss Dan Crowther won manager of the month after seeing his side win 5 games in a row, seeing his side rise to 6th in the league.

MARCH UPDATE

MACCLESFIELD TOWN 0-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

Hard thought win at moss rose, but really the goal was a bit of a fluke from Pearson who has also made an impact like Andy Cook since coming back into the fold. (Scorer: G Pearson) (MOTM: S Pearson) (Att: 1,513)

WOKING 1-2 GRIMSBY TOWN

Thankfully we won again due to 2 early goals in the first half but midfield were sloppy in passing and looked uninterested, as a result of this Woking pretty much dominated the proceedings in the second half. (Scorers: Cook, Hearn) (Att: 1,232)

GRIMSBY TOWN 4-3 KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS

A stunning game at Blundell Park which could have seen Kidderminster come back from 3-0 down but thankfully we took our chances and made the result safe, better defending next game lads! (Scorers: Cook, Elding X3) (MOTM: Elding) (Att: 3,129)

CROWTHER WINS MANAGER OF THE MONTH TWICE IN A ROW

Grimsby Town manager was named Blue Square Bet manager of the month twice in a row as his Grimsby Town side have now rose to 4th in the Blue Square Premier with an eye of winning the championship.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

Greg Pearson

When everyone else was playing mediocre or worse, Greg always put that extra effort into his performances to grab key goals in games that we needed to win to keep that 9 successive wins in a row flowing.

THOUGHTS

I cannot believe we're now in contention to go up as champions, doubt it'll happen but we'll try and push FGR and Mansfield to their limits in this last month of the regular season, keep tuned people!

APRIL UPDATE

STOCKPORT COUNTY 1-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

Really annoyed to be honest because they got a flukey goal, if we won we'd be in a huge position but meh.. not now. (Scorer: Cook) (Att: 3,152)

GRIMSBY TOWN 2-0 SOUTHPORT

Fairly comfortable home victory with Bradley Wood having a sensation game in getting a goal and also paving way for a brilliant assist to Liam Hearn. (Scorers: Hearn, Wood) (MOTM: Wood) (Att: 3,318)

LUTON TOWN 0-1 GRIMSBY TOWN (Scorer: Hearn) (MOTM: McKeown) (Att: 6,734)

1st MANSFIELD - PTS - 83 - GD -26+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We drew Forest Green in the playoff semis, well here are the results..

FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

THOUGHTS ON PRE-SEASON AND TRANSFER

Some great results in pre-seasons, overall a decent mix of results and some good cohesion time for the new lads. I suspect a relegation battle or being stuck in the mid-table wilderness as some players I have signed have been squad fillers as a lot of last years side who weren't good enough left, however some of these players do have some potential to succeed.

AUGUST UPDATE

GRIMSBY TOWN 1-2 MANSFIELD TOWN (CAPITAL ONE CUP PRELIM ROUND)

Well the 'cup run' didn't start at all, not the best of perfromances but some positives to take out of it.. one of them was the attendence! (Scorer: Scapuzzi) (Att: 6,750)

CHELTENHAM TOWN 1-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

Tough start to the season and we got a decent point, and almost everybody played half decent too. (Scorer: Scapuzzi) (MOTM: Long) (Att: 4,987)

GRIMSBY TOWN 5-1 BARNET

Talk about revenge! very proud of the lads, in particular summer signing James Vincent.. a super performance which resulted in the attacking midfielder scoring a hattrick. (Scorers: Vincent X3, Niven, Oshilala) (MOTM: Vincent) (Att: 4,229)

AFC WIMBLEDON 1-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

An even game down in London however we had many chances to win the game, especially in the last 5 minutes.. still pleased with a point though as we held our own before that in long periods of the game. (Scorer: Sheppard) (Injury: Long - out for 4-5 months :() (Att: 4,424)

MANSFIELD TOWN 3-3 GRIMSBY TOWN

A little disappointed with the defence as they collapsed as we blew a 3-2 lead but thankfully Pondy pulled one back in the latter stages to earn us a valuable point at Field Mill. (Scorers: Vincent, Madjo, Pond) (MOTM: Scapuzzi)
(Att: 5,896)

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

LUCA SCAPUZZI

The Italian striker has worked really well in his first month as a Grimsby Town striker, his hard work has resulted in 1 goal, 4 assists and 1 MOTM with a good 7.60 average match rating.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

GRIMSBY TOWN 1-2 MANSFIELD TOWN (JPT TROPHY NORTHERN 1ST RND)

Poor performance really, poor attendence too..then again it is a poor competition.. Barnet got 600 for their game!! (Scorer: Vincent) (Injury: Bodde out for 3-4 weeks) (Att: 1,270)

GRIMSBY TOWN 1-3 EXETER CITY

Poor performance again, very frustrating result even though Exeter are a very good side (Scorer: Sheppard) (Att: 4,084) (Injury: Pond - Out for 3-4 months)

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 0-2 GRIMSBY TOWN

Happy with this away win as we deserved it even though the goals were in the latter stages of the match. (Scorers: Blanchard OG, Hearn) (MOTM: Oshilala) (Att: 5,044)

GRIMSBY TOWN 1-4 BRISTOL ROVERS

A criminal performance ends up in a well-deserved 4-1 defeat. (Scorer: Scapuzzi) (Att: 4,166)

DAG & RED 1-0 GRIMSBY TOWN

We deserved to lose to be honest, but it was a very poor game either way so were were unlucky not to get a lucky 0-0 draw. (MOTM: Stephens) (Att: 2,777)

GRIMSBY TOWN 0-1 CRAWLEY TOWN

Another poor performance, the injury crisis to midfield is clearly exploiting our performances in the league, can't wait till the likes of Long and Bodde are back. (Bodde should be back soon!) (Att: 3,678)

GRIMSBY TOWN 3-3 ROTHERHAM UNITED

A stunning game at Blundell Park which saw the millers hold up a 2-0 lead, only for us to come back and then take the lead at 3-2, only to them to take a last minute equalizer.. some positives from this game of course but a few defenders are starting to annoy me a little with their inconsistent performances. (Scorers: Cook X2, Scapuzzi) (MOTM: Bodde) (Att: 4,355)

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

James Vincent

James has been an architect and an under-rated performer in our games this month, won or lost and therefore he deserves the player of the month award.View attachment 291171

OCTOBER UPDATE

ROCHDALE 1-1 GRIMSBY TOWN

A well-earned point and an okay start to the month, let's try and win the next game to get the ball rolling again.. (Scorer: Scapuzzi) (Att: 3,229)

GILLINGHAM 0-2 GRIMSBY TOWN

3 hard points won, very good performance and we looked literally unbeaten at the back. (Scorers: Sheppard, Madjo) (MOTM: Ford) (Att: 4,245)

GRIMSBY TOWN 2-1 ACCRINGTON STANLEY

Solid win over Accrington, we're now looking better and will be looking for a 3rd consecutive win in our next game. (Scorers: Scapuzzi, Sheppard) (Att: 4,421)

GRIMSBY TOWN 1-1 SOUTHEND UNITED

A decent draw with Southend, didn't deserve all 3 points though as some areas in the side were poor. (Scorer: Bodde) (Att: 5,126)

NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1-0 GRIMSBY TOWN

We weren't really good enough up-front therefore we didn't deserve anything from this game, till next time lads!! (Att: 5,472)

GRIMSBY TOWN 3-2 PORT VALE

We ended the month with a well-deserved win but we looked very nervous at the back for the last 20 minutes. (Scorers: Cook, Scapuzzi, Bodde) (MOTM: Cook) (Att: 4,802)
PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

ANDY COOK

Whilst Andy has been playing he has been utterly fantastic and fully deserves this award due to his goal scoring and work-rate with his assists.

NOVEMBER UPDATE

(CUP NEWS: GTFC draw Colchester United at Blundell Park in the first round of the FA Cup)

ALDERSHOT TOWN 2-3 GRIMSBY TOWN

A narrow win but lets face it, a win is a win and our finishing was SUBLIME. (Scorers: Hearn X2, Scapuzzi) (MOTM: Hearn) (Att: 1,928)

GRIMSBY TOWN 0-2 COLCHESTER UNITED (FA CUP FIRST ROUND)

The only thing I liked about this match was the fantastic attendence and support which should help us financially, the performance on the other hand was poison (Sent off: Niven) (Att: 7,370)

GRIMSBY TOWN 2-0 BURTON ALBION

Solid win over the midlands club which I was happy with, we now need to build on this to amount an early play-off push. (Scorers: Sheppard X2) (MOTM: Sheppard) (Att: 4,173)

GRIMSBY TOWN 0-2 WYCOMBE WANDERERS

We never really got going after an early fluke goal and Bodde getting sent off didn't help the situation either. (Sent off: Bodde) (Att: 4,245)
GRIMSBY TOWN 0-0 MORECAMBE

We were very solid at the back but very nervous up-front which was a disappointment. (MOTM: Byrne) (Att: 4,495)

SHREWSBURY TOWN 3-2 GRIMSBY TOWN

Disappointing to lose on the last game of the month but the nervousness between our keeper and right-back sparked it and that is frustrating. (Scorers: Scapuzzi, Sheppard) (Att: 3,280)

PLAYER OF THE MONTH (GTFC)

CLIFF BYRNE

Cliff has had his best games this month since joining the mariners in the summer, he has been consistently solid throughout the month.
