Tough luck in that last match but a good start to the season :)

Cheers mate. Hopefully when the Champs League dollars start rolling in I can invest them wisely and start to really take it to Bayern!

You're gonna be going to Old Trafford and Russia! Have fun in the Champo's League!

Not wrong, at first I was a bit bummed to see that group but I think we can match Lyon and Zenit so it will mainly be Man U thats the problem.

Can i get in on this? :P

Thats a tough CL group mate, welcome to the big show!

Is that possible? Exporting the teams for a playoff? If so it would be a bit of fun!

I've not really available until after Tuesday but should be able to do most times after that.

Yeah, I will probably be a bit hit & miss myself, availability wise, but we'll sort something out.

Nice to see Frankfurt back in Bundesliga keep it up!
(Won't volunteer for the online game because I am too lazy to worry about that)

Had my last exam earlier today so I should have an update up tonight!!

Season 8 - September Roundup

Game 6 - Augsburg (h)

We dominated this one from start to finish. Really we should have won by a lot more than the 2 goal score line, particularly after Silva got us on our way with another long range stunner - he is developing a name for himself with those! We had chance after chance following that but it wasn't until the 72nd minute that we made sure of the points when Sauter scored a nice long range goal. He usually likes to place them home but this was a full blooded drive. Nice.

Game 7 - Lyon (h)

So here it was. 7 and a bit years of hard work had led to this point, my first Champions League game. Walking out to the Commerzbank Arena with that familiar anthem blaring in the background is an experience I will never forget. Even better than that though was the game - we were magnificent!! Goals to Gedoz, new-boy Correa and that man Sauter again sealed a wonderful performance. A late strike to Lyon took a little bit of gloss off the day but really there are no complaints to be had here. We've given ourselves a really good start in our battle for knockout round qualification.

This game was also a new gate receipt high for the club. Each member of the Board came round and personally thanked me after this - they hadn't even done that when I got them promoted from 2. Bundesliga. Just confirms what I've thought about them though - they are only driven by profits...

Game 8 - Leverkusen (h)

Games like this we were losing last season so I will take it as a sign of maturation in my squad that we won here. Leverkusen have a really good squad so to take all three points from them, even at home, is no mean feat. Gedoz gave us the lead just after the break and we shut up shop from there. Leverkusen peppered our goal from that point on but it was mainly long range efforts that we dealt with easily.

Game 9 - Bremen (a)

Another really good performance! We started extremely brightly when new signing Fosu-Mensah rose highest to meet a corner and head us into the lead after only 4 minutes but then found ourselves down 2-1 on the hour mark after some sloppy defending allowed Bremen some good opportunities. I told the guys it wasn't good enough and from there they responded with class. Sauter has really responded to the challenge of Stendera being brought in and Correa finished the comeback with a goal that will start to ease the pain from Boga's departure.

Game 10 - Manchester United (a)

Punishment. Welcome to Europe I guess! I had been dreaming of managing at some of the biggest stadia in the world when I began this journey and before today had managed at places such at the Amsterdam Arena, Westfalendstadion and the Allianz Arena but being English the Theater of Dreams was something else! Our defence deserves credit for holding them to only 2 goals as they were literally attacking for almost the full 90! We'll be better for the experience though.

I have to apologise but there isn't a table and CL table screenshot for this month. I've had the rest of the day off work after finishing my exams and have been putting together a new PC after getting a hand-me-down from my brother. The end result now is pretty awesome (well relative to my old laptop) and as such I got a bit carried away and it was halfway through October before I realised I had forgotten the tables screenshots - doh!! I promise to bring them back for next month!!

Unlucky against United, surely played the Champions League theme before both European games?!

Haha - My 3yr old son was playing beside me and when I started to hum it and he asked "whats that song?" So I youtubed it for him - he loved it!

Season 8 – October Roundup

Game 11 – St Pauli (a)

Probably not a comfortable as I’d like but I’ll take it. The first half was rather even and I had to ask for more from the guys repeatedly before they responded. We got the goal when Correa was brought down in the area to earn a penalty. Gedoz stepped up and made no mistake to give us the lead and as the game had been so even I got the guys to drop off from that point – bad move. It wasn’t long before St Pauli came back into it and there Japanese superstar Nagasawa made us pay when he sprung the offside trap and slid the ball under Felipe. I urged the guys to go back on the attack from there and just when it looked like we were going to have to settle for a point Sauter scored a screamer from outside the box. A goal worthy of winning any game – he has really stepped up this year!

Game 12 – Dortmund (h)

Delightful! Although Dortmund shaded the possession stats we were the only ones doing anything meaningful with the ball and took the lead when Brian Vega, who has displaced Jung as first choice left back, scored when he arrived late onto a cut back and side footed home. We continued to be the better side and peppered their goal with shots but it wasn’t until the 79th minute that Gedoz got on the end of a Correa cross and slammed home from inside the 6 yard box. A really good win and some revenge for the beating they gave us at the end of last season!

Game 13 – CSKA Moscow (h)

Disappointing result here. Being the home match between us and CSKA I was really hoping for a win and to be honest I still feel that we were the better side here. Fosu- Mensah had a moment of madness when he went through the back of Dzagoev inside the box with only 10 minutes remaining. The Russian picked himself up off the floor to score the penalty and send the Frankfurt fans home frustrated. It will be hard to qualify now out of our group. The real story today though was Igor Akinfeev – he was simply amazing today, we had plenty of good opportunities but every time he was up to the challenge.

Game 14 – Bochum (a)

This was a game for the new boys as Stendera scored first with a clever placed finish just on the quarter hour make and then the big man Fosu-Mensah got on the end of a cross that was swung back in after a corner was only partially cleared and headed home. Solid performance and a solid win. Starting to feel a little more confident about this season generally but the inability of our strikers to score is a little concerning! Both Garcia and Iheanacho are getting themselves into good spots but just not finding the back of the net – thankfully my midfield is though.

Game 15 – Mainz (h)

Mainz came here with one goal and one goal only – don’t concede. And to their credit they managed it. Not quite sure how but they did. We hit the post on two occasions and really should have won this one comfortably. Still – this caps an unbeaten month in the league.

Tables Roundup

Bayern are still looking unbeatable but we have fought our way up to now be in a three-way tussle for second spot. Schalke and Dortmund are both very formidable opponents so it will be a long battle to see who emerges.

View attachment 251499

Despite the loss against CSKA the table is extremely close. Lyon, who we beat, lead the way on 6 points. Unfortunately we only have the one home game remaining and it is against Manchester United so we will need to take points on the road at either Lyon or Moscow to stand a chance. I believe though!!

Good luck with your remaining Champions League fixtures, that's a tough group to be fair. I recon 8 points may just clinch 2nd spot!

Cheers mate - Its something I really haven't encountered much with FM but with this Frankfurt squad we seem to do well against sides that are below, at, or slightly above our level but anyone considered a much bigger club than us usually seems to smash us, particularly away from home!

How are you finding Correa so far? Just signed him to replace Hazard on my Berlin save, big shoes to fill as Hazard was averaging 7.7 during the first half of the season.
