Magnificent comeback at Loftus Road puts Blackburn one game away from the title

Loftus Road is never an easy place to go. Especially when it is your last away game of the season and you need to win. The hosts had nothing to play for although they demonstrated in the opening minutes they aren't in the mood to do us any favours. Rangers were looking to close their home campaign in style and their fans cheered them on to take a big scalp.

Victorious at Loftus Road

They went wild in the final minutes of the first half when Buric gave Rangers the lead. Celebrations didn't last long though as our Turkish gem Can Özdemir leveled the scores with a fantastic strike just four minutes later. Queens Park didn't give up and gave their all to make the game entertaining. Both teams never stopped attacking and it could have gone either way. We wanted it a little bit more and you can guess who - Can Özdemir again scored what became the winner with 20 minutes to go. Neither side was able to get another goal and the final whistle put us even closer to the title.

Title decider next Sunday

We could celebrate as early as Wednesday if Newcastle fail to win their postponed game with Sunderland. I don't expect that to happen though and it should be resolved on the final day of the season. The Magpies travel to Crystal Palace who will be trying their best to avoid relegation and we welcome Liverpool. It won't be an easy game but there is no better place to get the Premier League crown than at home in front of 65000 cheering fans!

This is a glorious day! After thirty three years the title returns to Lancashire! Neil Lennon and the lads will forever be remembered as Blackburn Rovers legends after making the impossible come true!

Rovers lift the title!

It is no less than we deserved though after 37 league wins and a single loss. nobody would have thought we could improve on last season's heroics and here we are, smashing our way through the records, against all odds. The fact we played two of the other title contenders in the last three games only makes it better. In all fairness we were fortunate to meet a Chelsea squad more focused on their Europa League final and then a tired and lacking motivation Liverpool who had just lost the same fixture against the Blues. But we made it, even when the scousers were looking for a way back in the game after a late Voltolini strike game them (and Newcastle) a glimmer of hope.

The man who made it all come true

Neil Lennon is arguably the best manager at the helm of this football club. He and all the heroes will be going on well deserved holidays now and then face the uphill task of building up on this amazing trophy. With the quality at our disposal we should be able to add more silverware soon. But next season is for next season, we are the Premier League champions here and now - let the celebrations roll!!!

Newcastle in shock - the title goes to Rovers

We kept fighting to the bitter end but Lady Luck turned her back on us. For the first time in his Newcastle career manager Dimiter Hristov has lost the Premier League title. It was a sad picture to see home and away players and fans cry at Selhurst Park despite Newcastle winning 5-1. Palace went down to the Championship knowing a win or perhaps even a draw could have been enough to survive. Newcastle kept on scoring but it made no difference in the end.

View attachment 359144
Selhurst Park a sad place today

It is hard to answer where we blew it. You can't start pointing fingers when you have won 36 out of 38 league games and only lost once. We did make a wrong step at Stamford Bridge in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea. We also underestimated Blackburn and somehow let them win it after leading 2-1 a few minutes before the final whistle. But we also had a phenomenal season and performed better than the previous campaign, getting 4 more points, scoring 37 more goals and conceding just one more. Incredibly it was that one more goal that cost us the title.

View attachment 359145
This trophy could save or break the season

But as Hristov pointed out credit must go to Blackburn for standing their ground for it is more of them winning it than us losing it. The season isn't over for us, we still need to pick up from this shock and face Manchester United in the Champions League final. Anything but defending that trophy will now be considered massive failure.

It is with regret that Crystal Palace Football Club announces manager Gary Cahill is relieved of his duties with immediate effect. While a difficult 2027/28 campaign was always expected the board feels relegation could and should have been avoided and the dramatic final day drop is a disaster the club needs to recover from immediately. Chairman Ian Pike would like to thank Gary for his contribution during his three seasons with the club and wish him well for the future. The board will be examining candidates for the job in the next few days with names like Miles Addison, Georgy Schennikov, Cauley Woodrow and Luke Rooney on the list.

It is with regret that Aston Villa F.C. announces the departure of manager Nathaniel Clyne. Chairman Randy Lerner feels this is a necessary if hard decision to take the club forward. Failing to live up to minimum board expectations in the league campaign and a rock bottom 20th finish are simply not good enough for the club's ambitions and a change is required to rebuild and return in the Premier League. Everyone at the club would like to extend their best feelings for Nathaniel after his first season ever in management and wish him success in his future engagements. Randy Lerner and the board are already working on a condensed list of possible replacements including Gary Cahill, Miles Addison, Cauley Woodrow and Georgy Schennikov. A decision will be made quickly and the club will release another statement in due time.

FINAL SCORE: Newcastle United 4-2 Manchester United

Incredible performance by right wing-back Sam Thomas backed up by a brace sinks the Red Devils tonight. They did try to come back in it in the final ten minutes but it was too late. The Magpies were simply too good and visibly lowered their effort in the second half - perhaps a gentleman gesture from Dimiter Hristov to his old friend Ferguson. The Magpies have now won every single trophy on offer but the Premier League to complete a great season by adding the Champions League to the English Community Shield, the European Super Cup, the Club World Championship, the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup! Now let's take a look at match stats and individual performances:

Champions League 2027/28 - holders Newcastle!

Crystal Palace F.C. are proud to announce Miles Addison as the new manager. The board firmly believe Miles is the right man to bring the club forward. This is his first take at management after spells as a player with Derby County, Bournemouth, Bristol City and Saint Patrick's Athletic.

Aston Villa F.C. would like to announce the return of former player Gary Cahill at the club as the Villains new manager. Gary began his managerial career with Southampton at the start of 2022/23 season and overtook major overhaul of the Saints' squad before leaving in the end of the campaign to take over at Sheffield Wednesday. He enjoyed great success with the Owls by lifting the Championship title in his only season with them and reaching the Capital One Cup final. Gary then accepted a move to Derby County where he reached the Capital One Cup quarter final and was still in the running at the FA Cup quarter finals when he was sacked. His last job was with Crystal Palace - the longest stint Cahill has had as a manager. He managed a FA Cup quarter final and 17th finish in his first season, although his second was less successful and Palace suffered relegation before relieving him of his duties just recently. Randy Lerner believes Gary Cahill boasts the right experience to help Aston Villa bounce back to the Premier League and as he knows the club inside out no adaptation time will be needed.

Media expectations and final standings:

1. Blackburn (media prediction: 2nd) - Rovers winning the title can be classified as heroism despite expectations they would be the ones to give Newcastle a close run.

2. Newcastle
(media prediction: 1st) - disappointing league campaign for the Magpies - they performed better than last time but it wasn't enough for another title. This cannot be put any other way for such heavy favourites than major upset.

3. Manchester United (media prediction: 6th) - for the second time running the Red Devils finished much higher than anticipated and even reached the Champions League final.

4. Leeds
(media prediction: 3rd) - no grand slide in the spring for Leeds this time but they were away from the title fight too early. Media will be proud their predictions were spot on in that aspect, even if not fully precise.

5. Chelsea (media prediction: 4th) - exceptionally poor in the big games until March, the Blues left it too late and ultimately couldn't catch Leeds. They were closer this time though and winning the Europa League trophy will probably give then extra bit of confidence, although no Champions League next season.

6. Liverpool (media prediction: 5th) - major spending, lack of improvement over last season, change in ownership - it was an eventful campaign at Merseyside. It would be fair to say they performed below expectations though.

7. Manchester City (media prediction: 7th) - exactly as expected, the Citizens finish seventh. It brings heartbreak instead of celebrations though as the FA Cup quota for Europe goes to Everton.

8. Everton (media prediction: 8th) - the Toffees finish in sync with predictions and somehow claw their way to Europa League despite that.

9. Arsenal (media prediction: 9th) - average campaign for the Gunners. Nobody but their fans expected better although they are probably right to feel disappointed as over large parts of the campaign Arsenal implied they could make it to a higher place.

10. Tottenham (media prediction: 11th) - Spurs again perform above expectations to enter the top half of the Premier League.

11. Queens Park Rangers (media prediction: 10th) - Rangers don't surprise but don't really disappoint either holding their position in the middle ground.

12. Swansea (media prediction: 20th) - for the second season running we have a relegation favourite finish in 12th position - this time it is even more shocking. The Swans were widely tipped to finish bottom and yet they defiled those predictions.

13. Middlesbrough (media prediction: 13th) - no fireworks from Boro - they get exactly what was expected.

14. Oxford (media prediction: 12th) - slightly below expectations for Oxford but still far above relegation struggle.

15. West Ham (media prediction: 14th) - the Hammers didn't make their positive start of the season count and slided one position below expectations in the final table. At least they weren't sucked in relegation fight.

16. Sheffield Wednesday (media prediction: 16th) - the Owls were tipped to struggle with relegation fight and barely avoid it but despite their lowly position they were safe early enough and can be happy with the accomplished stability.

17. Sunderland (media prediction: 15th) - poor campaign was always on the cards for the Black Cats but they made it look worse by needing results on the last day to ensure survival. They succeeded but future isn't looking bright anymore.

18. Crewe Alexandra (media prediction: 19th) - Crewe were very close to survival and only dropped out on gaol difference. It is a painful way down for a team which managed more wins than Sunderland.

19. Crystal Palace (media prediction: 17th) - Palace were expected to be in trouble but unlike predictions they couldn't get away from it and now head to the Championship. It hurts knowing a result in the final day would have put them above the line.

20. Aston Villa (media prediction: 18th) - widely tipped to be the best of the three newcomers in the Premier League, Villa were actually the worse. They simply weren't good enough and relegation was confirmed long before the final whistle of the season was blown.

Newcastle individual review:

Goalkeepers:

View attachment 359325
Jáider Vallejo - 36 (16) appearances, 6 goals, 4 assists, 33 clean sheets, 7.16 average rating
(last season: 37 (8) appearances, 4 goals, 3 assists, 33 clean sheets, 7.13 average rating)

Excellent form for the number one Newcastle keeper and major contribution for the glorious campaign.

View attachment 359326
Paulo Villalobos - 31 (19) appearances, 4 goals, 4 assists, 38 clean sheers, 7.05 average rating
(
previous season: 31 (27) appearances, 3 goals, 5 assists, 39 clean sheets, 7.09 average rating)
The England international contributed big time although his performances have slightly declined compared to the previous campaign. His stats are still top notch though.

Central Defenders:

View attachment 359327
Santiago Bernal - 35 (4) appearances, 10 goals, 5 assists, 8.24 average rating
(
previous season: 37 (3) appearances, 16 goals, 5 assists, 8.18 average rating)
Bernal didn't contribute as many goals this campaign but was still prolific and his performances have been even better than before.

View attachment 359328
Mark Erwin - 32 (2) appearances, 4 goals, 7.50 average rating
(last season: 36 (3) appearances, 3 goals, 4 assists, 7.72 average rating)
There is a slight decline in Erwin's game this season. He was the least impressive player in his position and Hristov will probably want to have a word with him in the pre-season.

View attachment 359329
Silvio Ibáñez - 34 (2) appearances, 11 goals, 1 assists, 8.13 average rating
(last season: 35 (3) appearances, 5 goals, 7.84 average rating)

Major improvement from Silvio this campaign and he has become the most prolific player in his position.

View attachment 359330
Pape Diédhiou - 33 (2) appearances, 10 goals, 3 assists, 8.40 average rating
(
previous season: 28 (1) appearances, 9 goals, 8.26 average rating)
Pape was arguably the best centre-back in the Newcastle selection again and even managed to improve this season. The most all-round contribution from the heart of defense.

Wing Backs:

View attachment 359331
Darren Donaldson - 32 (7) appearances, 2 goals, 26 assists, 7.88 average rating
(
previous season: 35 (9) appearances, 4 goals, 28 assists, 7.75 average rating)
Darren has once again proven he is essential to Newcastle by providing the second best assists in the team from his less natural left flank. He has also upped his game a little this campaign.

View attachment 359332
Gerardo Soriano - 37 (5) appearances, 2 goals, 14 assists, 7.83 average rating
(
previous season: 35 (4) appearances, 2 goals, 11 assists, 7.73 average rating)
The utility defender has been asked to play as wing-back again and was everpresent. His contribution was exceptional and he is yet another player to improve this season.

View attachment 359333
Sam Thomas - 28 (6) appearances, 2 goals, 16 assists, 7.67 average rating
(
previous season: 34 (5) appearances, 3 goals, 9 assists, 7.55 average rating)
Young Sam has improved in his second season with the first team, even though his appearances have been limited by an injury. He impressed with delivering plenty of assists and became the hero in the Champions League final by scoring a brace.

View attachment 359334
Andeas Rush - 37 (5) appearances, 2 goals, 15 assists, 7.59 average rating
(
previous season: 32 (5) appearances, 3 goals, 8 assists, 7.51 average rating)
Andreas was the least impressive wing-back although it wouldn't be fair to criticize him this time. He did improve his delivery by nearly 100% and was an important part of the team.

Central Midfielders:

View attachment 359336
Michael Toase - 35 (2) appearances, 3 assists, 7.87 average rating
(previous season: 35 (9) appearances, 3 goals, 4 assists, 7.85 average rating)
The tireless vice-captain was asked to take more defensive duties this season and his goals went dry but Michael was just as influential. He is definitely one of the unsung heroes.

View attachment 359338
Antonio Undiana - 30 (3) appearances, 5 assists, 7.71 average rating
(previous season: 33 (4) appearances, 1 goal, 3 assists, 7.52 average rating)
Antonio was again rotated with Toase in the least prolific position in Hristov's formation and threw a lot of effort to do the dirty work for his team mates. His appearances were slightly limited by an injury although he has improved a great deal this campaign.

View attachment 359339
Scotty Walden - 33 (8) appearances, 20 goals, 10 assists, 7.76 average rating
(previous season: 32 (7) appearances, 3 goals, 14 assists, 7.71 average rating)
The captain was criticized for lack of goals last season and answered in a great manner by becoming the most prolific player outside the strikers department this term.

View attachment 359342
Aubrey Mashishi - 36 (7) appearances, 8 goals, 14 assists, 7.77 average rating
(previous season: 36 (3) appearances, 8 goals, 10 assists, 7.54 average rating)
Another great season for Aubrey - he even improved his final pass. The true recognition is he has been rated better than the club captain.

Inside Forwards:

View attachment 359344
Paolo Bonato - 36 (5) appearances, 12 goals, 6 assists, 7.44 average rating
(last season: 38 (10) appearances, 7 goals, 20 assists, 7.36 average rating)
Paolo has improved his finishing this season although this lead to a significant decrease in assists. He has improved overall although needs to contribute even more as he now stands out as the least capable performer in attack.

View attachment 359346
Diego Escudero - 35 (9) appearances, 16 goals, 33 assists, 7.91 average rating
(previous season: 37 (16) appearances, 10 goals, 34 assists, 7.59 average rating)
Incredible form by Diego. He was the most impressive winger last season but he has added even more goals this term and his overall performances have been bombastic.

View attachment 359347
Mickaël van der Vaart - 35 (10) appearances, 17 goals, 13 assists, 7.57 average rating
(previous campaign: 31 (8) appearances, 13 goals, 12 assists, 7.48 average rating)
The Dutch has delivered even better this season considering he feels better up front. The most prolific winger in the team and he wasn't shy of a goal pass either.

View attachment 359348
Leomar - 27 (3) appearances, 8 goals, 14 assists, 7.72 average rating
(last season: 21 (4) appearances, 11 goals, 8 assists, 7.62 average rating)
Another injury stopped Leomar from more appearances in the first team although he did feature more compared to the previous campaign. He has improved his game even though he has contributed slightly less goals.

Strikers:

View attachment 359349
Jim Priestley - 31 (6) appearances, 27 goals, 14 assists, 7.84 average rating
(last season: 40 (13) appearances, 36 goals, 16 assists, 7.69 average rating)

Missed some games with an injury although he has delivered more all-round performances when present. More goals will be asked next season.

View attachment 359350
Mikael Lampi - 34 (6) appearances, 38 goals, 16 assists, 7.94 average rating
(last season: 40 (12) appearances, 40 goals, 18 assists, 7.69 average rating)
Mikael made less appearances but was more prolific than last season and impressed with a string of amazing performances, especially in Europe.

View attachment 359351
Radek Pilar - 34 (4) appearances, 28 goals, 13 assists, 7.89 average rating
(last season: 40 (12) appearances, 36 goals, 11 assists, 7.74 average rating)
More of the same from the Czech - put him up front and he will get you goals. He did look to pass a bit more when in the box though so it could be said there is some development with Radek.

View attachment 359353
Dong Dexin - 36 (7) appearances, 48 goals, 18 assists, 8.30 average rating
(last season: 25 (8) appearances, 20 goals, 5 assists, 7.63 average rating)

International retirement saw the Chinese fully focused on Newcastle. To a devastating effect! A true goal machine and in the same time the third best goalscoring passer in the team - Dong Dexin is back to his very best!

I am looking for some feedback about the story to make it more reader-friendly and engaging for next season. Any observations and suggestions would be very welcome!

Let me know what you think on any of the following but not only:

- Does watching six teams deprive the story of enough focus?

- Are the media articles too many or too scattered?

- Is there anything else you would like to see that would add to the experience?

- What changes would you suggest to make the story more eye-friendly? Perhaps there is too much information with all the screenshots? Or there are additional things I am missing to include?

Newcastle United have closed the financial year with a loss of (£54.9m) - despite what performances on the pitch suggesting there should be a financial windfall instead.

Income stood at £553.2m. Large portions of it were generated by utilizing the stadium - £45.1m came from season ticket sales and additional £62m from gate receipts, £21.5m was raised on match day. Merchandising accumulated additional £59m and sponsorship generated £54.8m. TV revenue stood at £106.6m and outgoing transfers generated £122.6m. Prize money from various competitions added £68.7m. The rest came from fund raising, interest and other sources.

In the meantime expenditure stands at £608.1m - the greatest expense undoubtedly wages. £190.5m went in the players' pockets and £58.9m was picked up by staff members. £63.2m was assigned as various bonuses, £7.8m as loyalty bonuses and £18.1m went for agent fees. Those large outlays lead to £109.5m paid in tax. Transfer expenses were only £27.7m, the stadium swallowed another £23.1m and match day expenses stood at £21.5m. Additional £2.1m was spent on youth setup upgrades. Travel costs were £8.1m. The rest went for non-football costs - £52.5m and other expenses - £25.2m.

The club will certainly need to alter their financial policy as such an operating loss cannot be maintained in the long term. All possible revenues have been maximized but that level of spending, especially on player wages, is threatening the financial future of the club and must be cut.

I think your hand might be forced now, time for the youngsters ;-)
Why do you think so :) I expected a couple players to retire but none expressed any desire to hang up their boots so I may stick with the same team for another season.
