Just off topic, but thanks to anyone who is following the story. I've never had anywhere near this much support on a story, it's much appreciated :)

2019/20 LEAGUE RESULTS #2

We've lost more matches than we'd like, but it's mainly down to chance. 4 losses were only by a goal, so if we had some luck we could have taken more points. But this is a higher standard of football, so our form will fluctuate everywhere throughout the season.

It looks like this is the form we are sticking with this season. Kwame Thomas has well and truly overtaken Fletcher as our first choice striker, scoring 9 goals in these 9 games.

This is more of the same as our defence continues to let us down. Our attack has dealt with the step up easily, but it's the flood of goals we concede that's been costing us. Thomas is continuing his tear, netting another 8 times.

2019/20 CUP RESULTS

We've actually done extremely well in the cups this time around. We fluked our way to the 5th round of the FA Cup, got drawn Liverpool and took the gate receipts gratefully. We also managed to get into the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and we were unlucky to lose against Exeter in a dull game.

We've finished off this season with a good run of form, finishing up in a comfortable mid-table spot. This is our consolidation season in League 2, I want to be pushing for promotion next season.

2019/20 SQUAD REVIEW

View attachment 235025

Kwame Thomas has been absolutely insane, playing a part in 52 goals in 52 starts. Scott Arfield was also outstanding, showing that he should be playing at a higher level. Sergi Canos and Jack Barmby were damaging from the wings again, while Fletcher did an amazing job as backup striker. 16 goals from 20 starts and 20 sub appearances is more than I could ask for. The defence weren't quite up to scratch and I want to make some additions. Winger Danny Barrow gave up his first team spot to Barmby, and I think this level might be beyond him. We are going to have to say goodbye to Scott Shulton. He just isn't good enough and we loaned him out during the season. I'm happy with the squad but we need some key signings to push for promotion.

I just catched up and I think it's a simple but amazing story!

Keep it up!

I forgot how quick this story moves, dont check in for a couple of days & a season is gone!

Good first year in league footy mate. No doubt you will build on that. :)

Great season! Now to push on for the Playoffs or even automatic promotion!

Thomas has been a complete beast! :D

I would ignore half of these signings. Basically, I made a bunch of signings that I wasn't happy with. Then I terminated their contracts when they arrived because I hated my decisions. Wain (AMR), Newton (MC), McPike (GK) and Plummer (DC) are all back-up players. We've said goodbye to both Scott Shulton and Archie Love from our first season. Shulton made 205 appearances for the club, scoring 55 times and assisting 50 times from attacking midfield. I paid him a pittance the whole time and he produced very nicely. Archie Love made 290 appearances, scoring 21 times and assisting 33 times. He's slowly gone from 5 star player back in the Conference North to a mere 2 star in League 2. I thought it was time to let him go. I have no time for sentiment when I'm trying to race up the leagues.

Ashley Carter (DC)

This is a signing I am very proud of. I read a blog post named "Searching The Stats" that was interesting to me. I decided to look through some key stats from last season like interceptions, tackles, etc. Ashley Carter was up the top for most of them, my scouts agreed and I brought him to the club.

Mario Bilate (ST)

I'm not that confident in Matthew Fletcher at this level so I looked for a specialist False Nine to bring in. Bilate fits the bill completely and he should be a useful player when rotating with Kwame Thomas.

John McDonagh (MC)

McDonagh is a promising young regen who provides backup on miniscule wages. I've kept faith in my first team to improve on last season and push for promotion.

A very nice start to the season. Thomas has again been in blistering form, scoring 8 times. Our attack is just as dangerous as last season but our defence has tightened up, which bodes well for the rest of the campaign.

Ashley Carter does look really good for this level.

A decent run of results even with a couple of close losses. The 6-6 result was frustrating, we were up 6-2 when our goalkeeper got injured. Being a lethal risk taker I don't have a bench keeper, meaning I chucked our tallest player in the net. They promptly scored 4 times in 15 minutes to claim the draw. Kwame Thomas has actually gone down with injury, but wingers Barmby and Canos have picked up the scoring slack. A frustrating factor to signing Mario Bilate is that he buggers off overseas to play for Ethiopia constantly.

Keys Park is a fortress but we keep on copping losses away from home. Kwame Thomas is still injured, but at least Bilate is doing a decent impersonation, single handedly beating Scunthorpe with a hat-trick. I want promotion so I've brought in two loan signings to try and improve performances. Oscar Ruiz is a lethal 22 year old winger brought in to rotate with Barmby and Canos. He got on the scoresheet against Grimsby. Our second acquisition is central midfielder Ben Reeves. I felt like I needed another player to fill our attacking midfield role and he fit the bill.

We are currently on a good run of form, collecting wins for fun. We are starting to win some games away as well as at home which is encouraging. If we can continue this we can push near the top of the table.

This unbeaten run has now lasted 13 matches, mainly because of performances from Ruiz, Barmby and Canos. We are in a solid position to gain automatic promotion now, with Peterborough and Leyton Orient near us. The top 3 get automatically promoted, compared to having to scrap for one automatic promotion place in the Conference. I'm surprised that we've managed to play so well late in the season, because as I've explained earlier I normally start well but tail off.

2020/2021 CUP RESULTS

View attachment 234413

We made it through to the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and actually won it after losing in the final last season. It's not the most important trophy but it's nice to win things. We also drew Chelsea in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, at Stamford Bridge. We didn't have a shot for the whole game while Chelsea had more than 30, but thanks to an Insua own goal we came out on top. We got easily beaten by Swansea in the 4th round but it's still a great cup run. Our balance went from basically nothing to around the million mark, which is vital since the club isn't profitable.
