En Route To Wembley - February Round Up..

Liverpool 3-1 Spurs
View attachment 62723

Spurs were totally outclassed by Liverpool today at Anfield in this top of the table clash. Martin Skrtel headed home after some slack marking after just 16 minutes to put Liverpool 1-0 up. Ryan Babel doubled the lead after he broke free of the offside trap to slot past an onrushing Heurelho Gomes. Fernando Torres sealed the points 4 minutes after the restart to send Spurs fans home quiet. Eidur Gudjohnsen scored a consolation screamer to give Spurs something to smile about but in truth they were completely battered.

Daniel Feliciano said:
We got smashed today. We were outplayed and hope that we don't start to fall away now after all our hard work throughout the season.
Rafa Benitez said:
We were excellent tonight and we showed exactly what we're all about. We're pushing for Top Four and the League Title so this shows the damage we can do.

Spurs 3-1 Burnley

A fantastic team performance from Tottenham ensure they bounced back from defeat and earned a massive 3 points. After Graham Alexander tucked home a penalty to put Burnley ahead against the run out of play, Spurs came out all guns blazing and completely outplayed their lowly opponents. Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Tom Huddlestone all finished off wonderful team moves to wrap up an excellent 3 points.

Daniel Feliciano said:
We were brilliant today and we fully deserved these 3 points. We played some phenomenal stuff and showed great character to come back from behind.
Brian Laws said:
We were good today but they were unstoppable. They would've beaten anybody today and unfortunately it was us.

Spurs 2-1 Burnley
FA Cup 5th Round

A weakened Spurs side managed to defeat a spirited Burnley team and progress to the 6th Round of the FA Cup. Yannick Djalo struck his 5th goal of the season from the penalty spot after he was brought down by goalkeeper Brian Jensen. Tom Huddlestone then missed Spurs' second penalty of the match as he smashed it down the middle but Brian Jensen held firm and saved very well. Chris McCann then equalised with a fine low strike into the corner. Young gun Marco Verratti then smashed home his second ever senior goal in professional football with a fine strike low into the back of the net.

Daniel Feliciano said:
We were brilliant yet again, and once again we got our deserved rewards and are into the next round.
Brian Laws said:
We weren't too good today and probably don't deserve to be in the next round. We have to concentrate on the league from now on.

Jermaine Defoe's 19th league goal of the season sealed a battling victory for the London side to put them back on top of the table ahead of the League Cup Final next weekend. After some great work from Angel Di Maria on the left hand side, he drilled it across the 6 yard box and Jermaine Defoe slid in ahead of the goalkeeper to bag a goal and 3 points for his side.

Daniel Feliciano said:
We battled for that win. We played great football, but struggled to create the chances to get the goals. We had one chance and we took it and in my opinion, deservedly got the 3 points.
Steve Bruce said:
We were solid today. I think we defended well and looked threatening on the counter but didn't finish our chances. It was unfortunate but on another day we might have won 3-0. That's football.

League Cup Final 2010 - Sunday February 28th - Wembley Stadium

View attachment 62742 3-2 AET View attachment 62743

A phenonemal cup final performance from both sides gave the League Cup back it's reputation as Tottenham came out on top to win their second League Cup in 3 years. A wonderful bit of football from football saw Luka Modric feed in a pass to Peter Crouch, who then played a one-two with Jermaine Defoe before firing into the top right hand corner past Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.

However, Everton refused to give in and battled back creating a fair few chances with the pace of their front two in Louis Saha and Yakubu, but Gomes was level to them everytime. That was until the 27th minute when Phil Neville of all people smashed home a wonderful 25 yard strike to finally beat Brazilian Gomes.

Spurs then began to push on with Luka Modric having a few shots at goal from range and coming close on a few occasions. However, after a fairly quiet game, top scorer Jermaine Defoe was brought off, to a chorus of boos from the Spurs end, with the fans obviously not agreeing with manager Daniel Feliciano's decision to withdraw the hitman. Yannick Djalo came on in his place and immediately had an impact. He came close with a right footed shot from just inside the box and he forced Howard into a a terrific save. He then hit the crossbar with a stunning strike from 30 yards out. Roman Pavlyuchenko came on for goalscorer Peter Crouch in what proved to be an inspired substitution as the Russian scored within 5 minutes of coming onto the pitch, heading home from a wonderful cross by David Bentley in the 104th minute.

Leon Osman though obviously didn't read the script as he made it 2-2 in the 114th minute with a fantastic header after some incredible work from Louis Saha, who had picked the ball up 40 yards out from goal, dribbled all the way across the pitch before putting in a magnificent cross for the uncapped Englishman to stoop down and head home.

However, it still wasn't over as Yannick Djalo picked up the ball on the halfway line at 119 minutes and ran past 4 defending Everton players before rounding the American goalkeeper and sliding home into the corner to give the London side a magnificent cup final win. The fans went crazy as they knew that goal had secured another trophy in the cabinet.
