Watched 'Independence Day' last night on channel 4, I've got to say, its easy to understand why Will Smith is the most influential actor on the planet.

I wouldnt say hes influencial, more bankable and universally liked which granted should bring influence but I cant really think of one thing hes influenced :P

OK,it maybe is dated now but at the time in 1975 it was epic.Nothing like it had really been done before, and English actor Robert Shaw's performance as Quint was a masterclass.

Even at that, There was a lack of story.

Have to agree.

Sam Rockwell, very underrated actor.

Check out:

Choke
Joshua
Moon

Choke and Moon in particular are great
Agreed! Moon is awesome and his performance in it was just excellent. I had my doubts about him in a starring role, as I always thought he was a breath of fresh air every time I saw him in a supporting role (Frost/Nixon, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), but he really proved me wrong with Moon. Does he star in Choke and/or Joshua?

Watched the war film "Three Kings" on Sunday, if anyone hasn't seen it, it's about 4 soldiers who are in Iraq (I think it was Iraq) and they are searching for Sadam's gold, got a good storyline to it. 8/10.

Yep, it's set in the aftermath following the first Gulf War.

Disagree about Moon, thought it was a meh storyline - reasonably unoriginal apart from the Moon thing.

iRobot & The Island > Moon.

Not saying he wasn't good in it, just the story wasn't great. Seemed to lack a start and an end and was hard to keep watching. Only reason I watched till the end was because I had the slightest hope that something good/interesting would happen at the end - and not what was blatantly obvious with about 30 mins remaining.

5.5/10

Extreme Prejudice - 7/10 Dont know where they got the title but an enjoyable enough film with a good cast and plenty of shooting. Typical Walter Hill movie. Also my 700th rate on IMDB.

The Island?! That's terrible, ahahhaha :D

I thought it was very, very interesting. The story was quite predictable but Rockwell gave a great performance in it, the cinematography was absolutely spectacular, soundtrack was brilliant (Clint Mansell never ever disappoints).

"...reasonably unoriginal apart from the Moon thing."
There were a few nods to 2001, but they were definitely homages and not rip-offs. As a character study it's magnificent and like I said before Rockwell's performance draws you in and makes you empathise.

basically what he said about Moon :P

Watched The Blind Side last night, made Avatars plotline look twisty and unpredictable but I liked it, basically had the same template of any heart warming tale, montages of things getting better etc but I enjoyed the film inspite of this, 7/10

Although to paraphrase Simon Mayo, there was too much Redemption and not enough Shawshank

Yeh the Island was average at best...just emphasis how average I thought Moon was.

Didn't find it interesting at all. Cottoned on what was going on as soon as possible. His performance was fine but think anyone could have done it.

Didn't think much to the cinematography either, things looked fake (i know they are, but they ain't meant to look it), and can't recall any part of the soundtrack so obviously did nothing for me either.

Opinions opinions.

Summer - 9/10. Im not normally so generous when rating films but realated to this on a personal level not much more I can say really.

Where did u watch The Blind Side? I've been looking online for ages and i cant find a cinema thats showing it :/
Its based on a true story about Michael Oher, supposed to be really something!

The Blind Side was really good. Predictable but heartwarming and hugely inspiring story and there's not a sports movie cliché you won't find in it, but great performances in it and like I said.. I love the guy's story. Michael Oher was the second-best rookie of the year for me after the monster that is Brian Cushing.

Brick
Requiem for a Dream
Pineapple Express

all good too

edit: also, The Island is no way better than Moon

What's the 3D like? In the past the 3D films I've seen have just annoyed me. If the 3D is worth watching I would like to go to the cinema to see it.

Watched The Wolfman last night, seems good, that is what I saw before I fell asleep at 3am.

Was ok,nothing amazing though. The 3D wasnt really needed, the story and special effects are more than strong enough without it.Just a gimmick for the kids really.

Definitely an enhanced experience in the case of Avatar, but hugely unimpressed with the other outings of 3D, although it has to be said none of the directors of those films were James 'King of the World' Cameron. Also, he developed his own system to shoot it, which possibly makes 3D more worthwhile in the future, but other than Avatar, it seems like a gimmick by the film industry to lure more people into the theatres instead of pirating it or waiting to see it until it gets a home cinema release.

You could definitely make a case it worked for Avatar ;)

I think I'll pass then and save my money.
